Ok for anyone who's ever had an intercom system in their home or worked with one period, I needing one and need some advice.

I have like 12 rooms in my house and I like to put one in every room ~or at least most of the rooms~ I'm looking on ebay and the most I can find are like with 4 stations, what I'm wanting to know is, could I be 2 of the 4-station ones and will all 8 stations work together? I mean can I speak into one unit and be heard on the other 7?

I KNOW I've seen ppl with intercomes all over their house in every room, though it may not be as commun today. So where do they get them?

Another question is it talks about it having 10 channels. What is a channel?

The channel is what the signal comes thru on. I can tell you from personal experience that all channels will not work in all rooms. Why you would need an intercom in all 12 rooms is beyond me. Assuming that you have a 2-story house, I would have the main unit centrally located and I would have one in each bedroom and in the basement. If you have a building outside such as a workshop or garage you might want to put one there also. Places such as the bathrooms you don't really need one unless you or someone has a medical issue and may need help. Regardless of how many you install, the trick is finding the right channel(s) to use. If you intend to have private conversations then you will have to assign a channel to each room. If you're only going to use them to let people know that dinner is being served then one channel will suffice. I had a 3 intercom set from Radio Shack that I sold on Ebay and it had 4 channels and only one (B) would work in all the rooms when I tested them. If you still want to get 12 then you need to try get all the same brand and model # or at least find those that are compatible with each other.

Thanks :) Well for one thing I have a grandma I look after whos sorta in a state of recovery after an accident, so I'm thinking in the bathroom is a good idea, plus I always thought intercoms were "neat" when I was little and always wanted them, just the idea you can communicate all over the house and now that I have the means to install them I'm going to, I'm used to eventually getting what I want one way or the other

I remember when I was in middle school they put an intercom system in... Every classroom had this phone on the wall and a button to ring the office... If you picked up the phone and listenend closely,YOU COULD HEAR ANYONE ELSE THAT WAS ON IT RIGHT THEN :D

One day the othes were being mean to me so I ran over to the wall and picked up the phone like I was gonna press the button and get the office involved..... I remember the teacher (Joan) saying to me "We will talk about that" -- I guess she meant calling the office when they were mean to me........
