Kirstie Alley on Leah Remini: 'She's a Bigot'
By ABC News | ABC News Blogs

Actress Leah Remini has been outspoken about the Church of Scientology since she broke away from the controversial organization in July.

Remini, who had been one of the church's most famous members for three decades, publicly split from the organization following years of what she called "interrogations" and "thought modifications."

Now, the 43-year-old former "King of Queens" star is getting public blowback from actress Kirstie Alley, who is a proud Scientologist.

In an appearance on "The Howard Stern" show Wednesday, Alley, 62, took issue with some of Remini's statements.

Alley seems to be upset by comments like the one Remini made on "The View" a few weeks ago after she was voted off "Dancing With the Stars."

Remini told host Barbara Walters that there were repercussions to leaving the church, including being shunned by friends and family.

Leah Remini's Sister on Scientology Split: Friends Made to Choose Sides
"I don't think everybody knows that's what is required when you leave is the friends and family members, mothers and daughters, that is what is required," Remini said on "The View." "They can no longer have relationships with me, my family, so I don't get to see my godkids, friends that we've known for 34 years."

Alley disputed Remini's allegation.

"You're not shunned, you're not chased. All that's just (expletive)," Alley said. "I want everyone to know I have hundreds of friends and people that I know that have come into Scientology and left Scientology."

She added: "When you are generalizing and when your goal is to malign and to say things about an entire group … when you decide to blanket statement that Scientology is evil, you are my enemy."

Alley also said she'd blocked Remini on Twitter.

"She's a bigot," Alley said.

Alley, who is among Scientology's most famous members along with Tom Cruise and John Travolta, has credited Scientology with getting her off of cocaine and vastly improving her life.

The Church of Scientology has always publicly asserted that individual members may choose on their own whether to remain in touch with people who have left the church.

Remini's publicist had no comment about Alley's statements.

The Church of Scientology has declined to comment on Remini's departure, saying in a statement to ABC News in July, "The church respects the privacy of parishioners and has no further comment."

Really? Kirstie, I Love You on Cheers, but you need to get a life, keep your mouth shut and move on

God Bless You Leah Remini for standing up for yourself and seeing the truth

Kirstie is beautiful, but she's chock full of crazy! Now that Remini is going to be on "The Exes" and Kirstie's new show is on TV Land, this may lead to some crazy promo/TV Land Awards drama! Maybe this is how TV Land may jump onto the reality programming bandwagon?

I am a fan of some of her work, but Kirstie Alley is nothing but a classless freak. This coming from the same woman who, after his death, claimed she had an affair with Patrick Swayze. That is terrific--make that claim after he cannot defend himself, leaving his widow to wonder about the truth.

I'm a fan of both of their onscreen work but I don't really care about their personal lives...it's none of my business.

I'm glad Leah has done what she believes best. Her credibility I think seems far greater than Kirstie's. And regardless, it's totally classless to try to call out one of your peers in such a harsh way.

The Church Of Scientology is a sick controlling cult plain and simple. Of course Leah Remini is a "bigot", that's what they always say when somebody leaves Scientology they try to trash them. If you ever read anything about Scientology it's some really weird stuff. I don't know how people can believe the nonsense they promote or get sucked into it. It's pretty sad really.

Ed. ETA: I know this is an old thread but wanted to add my two cents.

I gotta side with Leah. When someone leaves a church and the church members go crazy like this, it makes the church look crazy not the ones who left them.

"I have hundreds of friends and people that I know that have come into Scientology and left Scientology."

Well what does that tell you?

I love Leah Remini. I did not watch "The King of Queens" for the fat guy and Frank Costanza. Basically the template of a gorgeous woman, dark haired, dark eyed, Brooklynite (I love a female Brooklyn accent, see the actress Cathy Moriarty. Love Cathy Moriarty......)

People should have common sense enough that Scientology is a bad thing. This is a main reason why I hate Tom Cruise, his stupid ass name and everything he stands for. I can't believe that he is brainwashed. He is a man in his fifties, been famous for over 30 years (more like 35), worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He gets something of this, power, influence, something that his movie star life does not fulfill that this does.

Kirstie Alley annoys me. Makes me angry at Shelly Long for quitting the show which thrusted Kirstie Alley to the forefront. She was not bad in Cheers. She was actually sort of attractive. But she is such an airhead, and she represents what I feel is an evil organization that is full of dung. All these people, Cruise, Travolta, Kirstie Alley, anyone, has the opportunity to look and research Scientology for themselves. Like I said, I think Cruise is in on the whole scheme and gets a cut from it all. The rest are either daffy or deluded.

I will say that I and L. Ron Hubbard share the same birthday, March 13th (as is the actor William H. Macy). I used to be on a great Freethinker board (www.freeratio.org) which died for some reason despite about a thousand members, there was a long running Scientology string, and I celebrated L. Ron's b-day a year or two. But he was crazy, and brilliant.

Kirstie Alley is a brainwashed nutjob. Leah Remini is lucky to have escaped that dangerous cult, and speaking out against it makes her brave not a "bigot".

Scientology is NOT a "church" or a "religion" - it is a pyramid scheme that uses a cult to make its leaders extremely rich and powerful, and essentially above the law.

I don't know what to say. I know that Leah Remini comes onto our board sometimes and doesn't like it when we trash her.
