I was just sitting here thinking about the characters of different TV shows and how many of them are tomboys or how many shows have tomboys. You don't quite see it as much anymore but they still do exist.

Here are a few I have thought of off the top of my head.

Darlene Conner-Roseanne
In the first 4 seasons, Darlene was a sneaker wearing, ball playing, sarcastic, mischief making tomboy. After that she became more goth, wearing all black all the time, writing poems, and reading. Then she became more girly after falling in love with David, she started wearing dresses, she went to college, got married and had a baby girl.

Samantha Micelli-Who's The Boss?
In season 1, Samantha loved sports and getting in fights. She didn't care much for dresses or girly things. As the seasons went on she started liking boys, wearing girly clothes and even acting more girly. Despite all this she still loved playing sports and grew up to be a beautiful young woman. By the end of the show she was happily married.

Jo Polniaszek-The Facts of Life
Okay there is a lot I don't know about Jo. I do know that she hated wearing dresses and loved sports. She was very straightforward and spoke her mind. Despite not being too fond of the other girls at the school, she ended up really caring about them and they became the best of friends. I don't know what happened to Jo after this since I still have yet to watch the entire series.

Can you think of any other shows with tomboys? Feel free to share. Pics and videos are welcome. :) Have fun! :D

Al Lambert-Step By Step

She kind of grew out of it in the last few seasons. But, in the first few. She was a full blown tomboy.

Betty Jo Bradley - Petticoat Junction
Prior to her marriage, Betty Jo (Linda Kaye Henning) was more likely to be playing baseball or helping Steve work on his airplane's engine than pursuing girls' activities.

Elly May Clampett -The Beverly Hillbillies
Elly (Donna Douglas), early on especially, was known to climb trees and use a slingshot, all the while being very reluctant to wear girls' clothes -- and could whup Jethro in wrestling!

And we know that some aspects of the character of Elly were based on the real-life Linda Kaye (especially the fondness for animals).

Ralph Monroe - Green Acres
This lady carpenter was probably the #1 tomboy of the sixties.

Samantha Kanisky (Gimme A Break)

She did eventually grow out of her tomboy phase.

George Kirrin on "The Famous Five" (both 1970s and 1990s versions)
To some degree, I'd say Nikki Carpenter on "MacGyver" (she probably grew up as a tomboy)
Webbigail "Webby" Vanderquack on "DuckTales" (somewhat)
Gadget Hackwrench on "Chip 'N' Dale: Rescue Rangers"
Bailey Pickett on "The Suite Life on Deck" (also was willing to be a crossdresser in the first episode, as that was the only way she could get an open spot in the school at the time.)
