Marisa Tomei who starred in the very 1st Season of A Different World celebrates her 49th Birthday today
Tomei who appeared as Marcy Thompson in 2 episodes of the CBS Daytime Soap As the World Turns in 1984 played the role of Maggie Lauten the best friend and college roommate of Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) and Jaleesa Vinson-Taylor (Dawnn Lewis) in the shows very 1st season
since departing from the show along with Lisa Bonet, the Brooklyn born Actress who stands 5'4" went on to star in numerous movies most notably co-starring w/Joe Pesci in My Cousin Vinny for which she earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and she also starred in What Women Want w/Pesci's Co-Star from Lethal Weapon 2,3 & 4 Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt from TV's Mad About You and the Film Twister and The Wrestler w/Mickey Rourke and Singer/Actress Evan Rachel Wood
the very 1st season of ADW became a #2 Hit in the Nielsen Ratings and it was the Highest Rated Season of the entire series, plus it was #2 among African-American Households and ran back to back with The Cosby Show and Cheers and all 3 shows became the most watched shows of the season
Prior to ADW, Tomei appeared on the abc Afterschool Special entitled "Supermom's Daughter"
