View Full Version : Infomercials Beginning to Appear on Antenna TV and MeTV
RobbieG 12-01-2013, 04:34 PM Last Saturday night our local Antenna TV affiliate showed an infomercial for the Carol Burnett Show DVDs at 7:30 p.m. instead of The Partridge Family. I had seen it in the lineup as The Carol Burnett Show but I had a feeling it was going to be the infomercial, since I have seen it listed that way on other infomercial networks, and it turns out it was an informercial. At least it's an infomercial for a classic TV show, and The Carol Burnett Show was so funny that the infomercial itself is fairly entertaining.
This morning our local MeTV affiliate preempted the Christmas episode of Family Affair at 7 a.m. with an infomercial for a Shark vacuum.
I've seen preemptions for local sports events on these two local affiliates in the past, but this is the first time I've seen preemptions on these two local affiliates for infomercials. I guess the money they get from the advertisers as part of the big Christmas advertising push is worth preempting the regular schedule? I wonder if this is just a Christmas trend or if it will continue into the new year as well. :(
I know some of you have seen the Carol Burnett listing in the Antenna TV schedule, which turned out to be an infomercial. Has anyone else (in other areas of the country other than where I am) seen any MeTV shows preempted by their local affiliate for infomercials?
Robbie
Dude111 12-01-2013, 06:18 PM These networks are too greedy for thier own good!!!!
I fear Antenna TV will become as bad as TV LAND is!!
Sad :(
Dave_L 12-01-2013, 06:38 PM I haven't seen any infomercials so far on my Me-TV or Antenna TV here in Houston, TX.
Locally, Me-TV's Saturday mid-morning/early-afternoon schedule is sometimes pre-empted for college football games. Also, for a long time, Antenna TV's 1 to 2 a.m. (CST) programming was replaced with a rebroadcast of our CW affiliate's local evening news. That meant for months we were missing out on Jack Benny, except on weekends when it aired at a different time. I'm guessing enough people complained because that stopped months ago. They didn't even try to move that news block to another time, but just abandoned the rebroadcats entirely.
So I imagine it's a local decision whether or not to preempt the national feed with infomercials. I hope the Houston stations don't decide to start doing this. (Although if they decide to preempt some of the time slots that Antenna TV fills with movies instead of old TV shows, I won't shed any tears.)
For now, until 3-hour blocks of Friends, Raymond and original programming start showing up, I'm not worried about either Antenna TV or Me-TV becoming the new TV Land anytime soon.

Sad :(no, you can rest assure that Antenna TV and ME-TV will never change; and will stay the same way that they are now. They're both over-the-air digital sub channels and not cable so they don't have to follow the same rules as cable and have original programs.

RobbieI haven't and I hope I never do.
jmann 12-02-2013, 06:36 AM I have seen some infomercials on ME-TV Boston on Saturday mornings. They sometimes will show programming from the ABC affiliate when there is a breaking news story.
LUNCH 12-02-2013, 02:25 PM No infomercials here-yet.It's your local affiliate channels that are at fault not Me-TV or Antenna.
mets82 12-02-2013, 05:29 PM It was an informercial of Carol Burnett show? Saw the listing but thought it was the show. ME-TV starts airing informecials at 10pm every night so thats nothing new. Also, ME-TV airs infomercials at I think, 6 am everyday as well.
Ronny G 12-02-2013, 05:42 PM Me-TV does not show informercials.
I have me-tv and they do not show informercials in my area.
As someone else stated, it is your local affiliate in your area that is pre-empting me-tv with informercials or local news or local sports.
Complain to your local affiliate--not me-tv.
mets82 12-02-2013, 05:59 PM I stand corrected. My ME-TV affiiate shows informercials, not ME-TV in general.
MacLeaper 12-02-2013, 06:00 PM What's wrong with infomercials?
treky 12-02-2013, 06:13 PM they're annoying!!
fortunately our local affiliates carry ALL the Anntena TV and ME-TV schedules.
bencasey 12-02-2013, 07:34 PM What's wrong with infomercials?
They are half hour commercials. What's wrong with you.
Ryan Chamberlain 12-02-2013, 11:38 PM No infomercials yet on the Lexington, KY METV and Antenna TV affiliates. Thank God.

Way too much to go into detail about here, man. lol:lol:
But thankfully, Jesus has forgiven all my wrongs.:)
And yes, I realize that infomercials are essentially half hour long commercials. But they usually seem to air late at night, so it's not really too much of an annoyance since it's not taking up prime time air time generally. (For insomniacs, they can even be a great sleep aid.:) )
Yes, I do find some to be pretty boring and I wouldn't watch them, but I've actually watched a number of infomercials- some of which I find to be much better than anything else on the air at the moment.
I'm not actually going to buy the products, but I do enjoy watching some of Time-Life's infomercials for different music collections- I just like to hear all the music and see video clips of the different artists from different time periods. I actually just recently watched an infomercial last night for The Best of Dean Martin's Celebrity Roasts on DVD- that was pretty neat. It was especially fun and funny seeing all these famous stars zinging each other- some of them did get risque, but they were generally much nicer than the crude and puerile invectives I see flying on some modern roasts. (Rich Little's impressions were great too.)
I'm not usually seeking out these programs- I just happen to catch them at various hours and find many to be pretty enjoyable. I don't really have a problem with them- I can always put on a video if I want something different to watch or change the channel or just find something different to do from watching TV altogether.

Dave_L 12-09-2013, 02:04 PM I haven't seen any infomercials so far on my Me-TV or Antenna TV here in Houston, TX.
Well, so much for that. Last night, my Antenna TV affiliate showed the Carol Burnett infomercial in place of one of the regular shows. I guess the infomercial epidemic is spreading amongst the affiliates.
LUNCH 12-09-2013, 03:31 PM At least a Carol Burnett infomercial is not too bad.I'm pretty sure though Me-TV and Antenna don't like when affiliates interrupt their schedule with things like informercials etc.,but I guess there is only so much they can do.Paid programming really should be banned,it's all over place like regular commercials are.
Tubehead 12-11-2013, 02:49 PM if they wont to air commercial why not just show classic commercials like TV land did back before TV land showed crap
eng51squad51 12-12-2013, 08:13 PM My Local METV affilated started last friday pre empted the METV from 5pm to 11pm to show High school football play off and i think it will be same thing tomorrow night. and in march they pre empted METV for Basketball.
MacLeaper 12-13-2013, 01:31 PM Well, those are sports airings though- so not quite the same as an infomercial, but same effect of course. (Of course, I would definitely welcome the basketball airings myself.:) )
