BBC America Renews "Atlantis" for Season 2

BBC America is staying in "Atlantis"! The new fantasy series has been renewed for a second season, the network announced Wednesday.

Set in a world that weaves together ancient Greek myths and history, the drama follows Jason (Jack Donnelly), a young man from our world who somehow winds up in Atlantis. With the help of two new friends -- a rather rotund Hercules (Mark Addy) and wide-eyed Pythagoras (Robert Emms) -- Jason seeks answers for his father's disappearance, his own origins and a destiny foretold by an oracle.





The series, from "Merlin" producers Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy, debuted Saturday to 838,000 viewers, making it the network's highest-rated series premiere ever for Supernatural Saturday.

"Atlantis is off to a fantastic start and is the centerpiece of our Saturday nights for the next twelve weeks," BBC America's Senior Vice President of Programming Richard De Croce said in a statement. "We're committed to bringing our viewers even more entertaining episodes inspired by Greek mythology from Howard and the talented team in season two."

I was going to watch it, but the promos didn't really make it appealing enough to tune in.

I echo Rob's thoughts. PBS airing EP2 Saturday. I have EP1 archived, but just can't push myself to watch it. It looks like a thousand other mythology type movies.

Anyone seen a few episodes? Recommend it?

Well now I've seen it. And I liked it too. Sure it's got a bunch of that mythology stuff in it, after all, it's Atlantis! But you don't feel like you've seen it a hundred times. I like the bits of humor between Jason and Pythagoras. And Mark Addy is an absolute hoot as Hercules!!! This may be his best role yet!

Don't know about the rest of the season but the pilot has me yearning for more, and I'll definitely be watching EP2 tonight.
