Once upon a time in the year 2000, a 38-year-old struggling British musician named Ricky Gervais (born on June 25, 1961 in Berkshire, England, UK) created a sitcom for British Television that he called The Office, a workplace sitcom shot documentary style, where he cast himself as David Brent.
4 years later, American producer Greg Daniels decided to bring The Office to NBC, with Steve Carell cast in the lead role, rechristened Michael Scott, and the U.S. version set in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
The Office aired for 8 seasons on NBC from March 24, 2005 - May 16, 2013, lasting 200 episodes (including the hour-long series finale), roughly twice as long as the original British version.
Flash forward over a decade later: Ricky, now age 52, is as big a success as a comic writer/actor in America and England and is set to star in Disneys PG-rated Muppets Most Wanted.
