Sarah Silverman on her "SNL" Stint
11/22/13

Sarah Silverman stopped by HuffPost Live and no topic was off the table, including her brief stint with "Saturday Night Live".

Silverman was a feature player during the 1993-94 season and said she was hired -- and almost immediately fired by "SNL".

"It wasn't like I did something wrong, I was hired and then the following year they got rid of all the old guard and started anew. By the way, I didn't write a single funny sketch so maybe that had something to do with it.

The fact that Lorne Michaels saw anything funny in me at that age is impressive."

Sarah Silverman Recalls how Conan O'Brien Helped Save her Career after SNL Firing
by Wesley Stenzel

Sarah Silverman remembers the help she received from one of her earliest comedy allies, Conan O’Brien.

"Conan was the best thing for me," Silverman said while she discussed being fired from SNL in an interview with SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show.

Silverman explained how O'Brien's frequent invitations to appear on "Late Night" helped her stay afloat when her time at Studio 8H didn't pan out as she'd hoped.

"That was his first year [on Late Night], was my first and only year at SNL. And he put me on all the time, even after I was fired, all the time, and that was the start for me."

"And I wouldn't have been able to be on [Late Night with] Conan without SNL," she continued. "And it was an incredible kind of boot camp experience."

Elsewhere in the interview, the comedian explained her conflicted feelings about SNL, where she worked for the 1993-1994 season as a writer.

"It's so magical, it's so amazing, but there is just something about it where they just have this energy that puts you in your place where you feel like a piece of s---, and you're terrified," she said. "The anxiety — it's very hard to be zen and chill there."

"I was totally thrown for a loop when I was fired, 'cause it never occurred to me that was possible," she said. "But I think it's definitely for the best."
