I ask myself...does my generation like older sitcoms from the 50's, 60's, and 70's?

Because lately...as a Millenial (1980-1996) I've been seeing myself watching MeTV and Antenna TV a lot (I don't have cable and not intending to get cable in the near future).

I like these older shows like "F Troop", "Gilligan's Island", "Hogan's Heros", "I Dream of Jeanie", and "Bewitched" to name a few...I'm now tempted to buy a video cassette and tape a few of these shows.

I'm sure there's people here in their 20's and 30's who are watching older shows rather than the newer shows.

I was born in '82 and I love the older shows from the 50's-80's. Class never runs out of style and these shows had class.

I'm also a fan of shows from the 90's and some shows from today like "2 Broke Girls".

I'm of that generation and I also love watching TV shows ranging from the 1950s to 1980s in general. I get much more selective when it comes to the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s, but there are a few shows I like from those time periods. But the shows I more actively watch are those that I can get on DVD (usually from borrowing from the library) and go through and watch at my leisure. [And these are generally older shows.] For instance, I've currently been trying to watch the entire series of Full House and Star Trek: The Next Generation, if that tells you anything. (And I'm rewatching Starman- I love that series!):) :cool:
But I also am a fan of shows like "The Honeymooners", "I Love Lucy", "The Andy Griffith Show", "I Dream of Jeannie", "Gilligan's Island", "The Addams Family" and lots of others- I grew up watching a lot of '50s and '60s shows in reruns anyway.:) :cool:

I've mentioned this before and I know this is kind of a general answer. I think it is really somewhat of a stereotype that only people over a certain age watch and enjoy older and classic TV programs.Seems to me if one likes good quality television they are going to enjoy watching TV at it's best ie:classic TV no matter what age they are.

I was born in 1999 and I watch TV shows from the 1950s-1980s, my favorite shows are (In order by decade):

The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet
Leave it to Beaver

1960s:
Family Affair
The Dick Van Dyke Show
I Dream Of Jeannie
Bewitched

1970s:
The Brady Bunch (Started in 1969 but mainly aired in the 1970s)

1980s:
Family Ties

I'm 20, and I grew up on classic sitcoms, so I definitely have an appreciation for them.

It doesn't seem like most people my age have much interest in TV made before the '90s, though. It's weird because that's definitely not the case with film or music. Film & music tend to preserve their classics, while TV mostly shuffles them away.

I was born in the early 1990's, and there are a few classics I have watched (and enjoyed). I Love Lucy, Gilligan's Island, The Brady Bunch are all good, but I haven't watched many others. Simply put, there is just too much to watch nowadays for me to go back and watch classics.

Also I agree with EmoJoe about film and music; people always seem to have a better appreciation for them than older tv shows. But I think it has to do with cable channels getting rid of repeats of older shows. TV Land used to be great way for people to catch repeats of older shows. Now the closest you can get is if your market has MeTV, Antenna TV, etc or to rent shows on dvd. Not to mention people prefer newer shows it seems like Modern Family, Family Guy and The Big Bang Theory (not saying I don't like them. They are 3 of my favorite shows.)

I love older music!! My favorites include The Beatles (I guess you could tell by my icon), Paul McCartney (both solo and Wings), The Eagles, Don Henley, Ricky Nelson, And various songs by various artists ranging from the 1950s-1980s.

Funny- that last statement is pretty much the inverse for me. It feels like there is too little to watch nowadays that I'd rather go back and watch classics. In my opinion, a lot of the older shows are just much better than most things on now. (But there are some modern shows I enjoy- but as always, it's a very selective list.)

NIce to know young people like the older shows. I am a baby boomer and find the year 2000'+ era shows NOT to my liking.mMaybe for there is SO much on tv that it is hard to narrow shows down.

I was born in 1976 so I'm a member of Gen X but I can relate as I watch many shows that were well before my time. I think All in the Family is the greatest sitcom ever and it premiered 5 1/2 years before I was born. The original Star Trek, The Twilight Zone and Mission Impossible are also shows that I love that aired before I was born.

I was born in '81 and I think a lot of shows from when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s are a lot better than shows today, and I also like several sitcoms from the 70s and a few from the 60s
