View Full Version : Family Feud improvement ideas
GameShowFan66 11-20-2013, 01:51 PM I dislike the fact that the questions now have a raunchy flavor to them at times, especially for a show with "Family" as part of its title. I know the older versions had some risqué answers at times, but now it seems as if the show's writers go out of their way for it to be this way.
The prize money at a flat $20,000 per Fast Money win is okay, but I'd like to see a "Bullseye" type thing worked into the show again, but not as a separate round.
First, I'd have 4 questions played per game. Round 1 and 2 at single value, round 3 double, round 4 triple. I'd make it where the points would again equal dollars too!
For each face-off (and only during the face-off) if either player gives the number one answer, add money to the Fast Money bank. $1,000 for the round 1 question, $2,000 for round 2, $3,000 for round 3 and $4,000 for the 4th and final round question.
The show upped the ante from $10K to $20K at Louie Anderson's strong suggestion (about the only good thing he did for the show). Why then are they still only paying $5 per point when Fast Money isn't won? I'd like to see at the very least $10 per point, and perhaps up it each day. Day 1 & 2 $10 per point, Day 3 & 4, $15 per point, Day 5 $25 per point. Must win Fast Money in the 5th and final day to win the car too, then retire undefeated.
Start each family bank at $15,000. A possible $10,000 additional could be won to be added to the Fast Money bank.
Zoneboy 11-20-2013, 02:24 PM I agree the questions have gotten raunchy but one thing I've noticed particularly with Steve Harvey's version is that the buzzer goes off too quickly. This happens quite often during the face-off, a player will give their response and just as soon as Steve turns to the other player the buzzer goes off before they can open their mouth.

I've only watched a very small sampling of Feud since 1999, and since Steve took over as host. I'll try to catch it and see. If that's the case, and I don't have any reason to doubt that it is, it's quite unfair I'd say...

seriously, this A*Hole doesn't care about the classic at all, he only cares about saving his washed up career only for the reason alone so cryptic viewers can watch his piece of daytime dogs**t talk show. I said that in the beginning and yet unsurprisingly still nobody listen not even the thoughtless pigs at game show follies, Buzzerblog and Fremantle refuse to listen to what I have to say. This idiot has turn the once beloved classic (for which I don't watch anymore since 2010) into a terrible 30 minute sketch comedy parody of its former self. in other words its a terrible sexiest and racist version of In Living Color with unfunny jokes that doesn't need to be their. Now sure Feud may have been a spinoff of Match Game in the 70s, But it doesn't need to be a clone of Match Game. and of course the show's popularity (MG) died down in the 80s because of the tiring double entendres and Feud will be the same way if it doesn't start to change the way it used to be. other versions before this may have used some innuendo as well but it wasn't heavy like this blatant piece of work is. IMO, Cedric (The Entertainer) Kyles, David Alan Grier or Tommy Davidson would have done better that him.
until then I will not and never ever support a Dumbs**t host who thinks Matthew McConaughey starred in Home Alone instead of Macaulay Culkin.
howilu 01-27-2014, 11:41 AM I don't think there needs to be any changes in Family Feud. It's one of the best and most durable game show formats of all-time and it doesn't need to be tampered with. As with the poster who doesn't like Steve Harvey, you're entitled to your opinion but to me, Harvey saved the show from cancellation and he is very funny. Sometimes when I watch the show, he really breaks me up.
on the other hand,, the only thing that could change would be to tone down the content of the questions. I do agree they have got raunchier.
GameShowFan66 01-28-2014, 12:49 PM On the rare occasion that I do watch, I will say I find Steve Harvey funniest when he just has an expression on his face after the way a family member might have answered a question. To me that's far more hilarious than things he might say. I should try to make more of an effort to watch it more. I still remember when the Dawson Feud on ABC was new back in 1976. I was 9 years old but remember it quite vividly. I miss that warmer set, that made it feel like a homey-country type place, which tied in very nicely w/the theme of the program itself.
let'swatchtv 01-29-2014, 01:32 AM On the rare occasion that I do watch, I will say I find Steve Harvey funniest when he just has an expression on his face after the way a family member might have answered a question. Of course, the facial expressions of Harvey's are just equally annoying, unfunny, irritating and fake like him trying to do a terrible impression of a family member saying $20,000 in the Fast Money round (for which IMO, O'Hurley did it better with a touch of class from his era) but as for the classy set GSF66 I do agree that the classic southern-homey feel to it (which was also carried over to the Combs version as well in the mid 80s) is still miss and most recognized of "real true" classic Feud fans to this day. of course you and I both know that it will never comeback in this day and age with new technology in todays world just to get along with the times of course for which we will have to adapt every now and then.
in my short conclusion, I blame Fremantle for hiring Steve Harvey in the first place and I also blame them for murdering this great classic into a sell out who's life support for "so-called" jokes is raunchy humor.
Let's face it Game Show Fans, when it comes to reviving classic treasures and turning them into worthless plastic toys. Fremantle has always will and forever be known for butchering shows that we all known and love into non existent no-hit wonders. Heck, the only show that hasn't taken a trip to the torture chamber yet is Let's Make a Deal with Wayne Brady due to Monty Hall being the executive producer and all. while the others are now stuck forever into "unemployment" hell.
FREMANTLEMEDIA DOESN'T CARE ABOUT REVIVING CLASSIC GOODSON-TODMAN, GRUNDY AND CARRUTHERS SHOWS THE RIGHT WAY!!!!!
PERIOD!!!!!
P.S. also I like to add that these idiotic drooling lazy ****heads at Fremantle need to get rid of Joey Fatone as the announcer, HE SUCKS. Gene Wood and Burton Richardson respectively were way better than Fatone and will always be better than Fatone. but then again the lazy Dumbbells for a brain would rather finish eating a bowl of Kellogg's Corn Flakes by picking a fork over a spoon.
SCREW YOU FREMANTLEMEDIA AND YOUR GREEDY SELFISHNESS CHOWDERHEADS!!!!

I know that you don't like Steve but in his defense, I will say that his career is anything but washed up. Between Family Feud, his morning radio talk show, his daytime talk show, self help books, book tours, charities/organizations and his projects to help african american male youth get on the right track, he is a busy man. He can be annoying at times but I still like him and respect his hustle. Love him or hate him, he is one of the most hardest working men in the industry.
MacLeaper 02-24-2014, 01:03 PM I'm sure the producers would let Steve Harvey know if he wasn't doing something right on "Family Feud". I don't always like his impressions of the contestants and all and they definitely have some of the craziest questions (sometimes pretty risque), but I've enjoyed "Family Feud" since Ray Combs used to host it (and I always thought he did a good job)- and I generally like Richard Dawson's hosting job too. Of course, he was infamous for kissing all the women. So at least Steve Harvey isn't hitting on all the women on the show.
Anyway- John O'Hurley and Richard Karn did well too. I just like "Family Feud" in general- it's always fun.:)

also I would for once like to add that Tom Joyner (even though he hasn't hosted a game show yet) is also the hardest working man in radio as well but at least you don't get to hear him say raunchy humor on his daytime radio show. But listen, back in the day when he had the fade he use to be cool when he did Showtime at the Apollo and Big Time Challenge and of course his former hit WB sitcom. but now (in the Bald era) it just makes me cringe for fans praising him like he's the god of the survey board. Popularity wise, he's like the "Shandi Finnessey" of Family Feud. I mean nobody in this era even mentions the other previous host like Dawson, Combs, Anderson, Karn and O'Hurley like they didn't even exist anymore prior to Harvey, I fell like people are forgetting their roots somehow which it's really not cool to me. I not saying that I suspect anyone to remember Louie Anderson (which even though most people have hated his version a lot but I for one just don't have a problem with it) but now I feel like this version is fake to me including the racist, childish, selfish, cryptic, ghetto, idiotic jokes for the show which doesn't even make sense at all, and he "lacks" some of the "traditions" from other past host obtained and even though I still don't care about this version at all I still think after the steal segment he goes all "Family Fortunes" on viewers and reveals answer from bottom to top instead of the other way around. and please again I'm not trying to be racist in anyway, shape or form I just wanted to see a better "Feuder" that Harvey. like Alfonso Ribeiro for example.
BTW I read a headline one time in gameshownewsnet that the show (Harvey version) has beaten it's own ratings in the neilsens. seriously, how dumbfounded a title headline can it be. if your a TV show (classic or new/any genre for that matter) it should be competing with other TV show's, not against yourself. Heck you don't see The Price is Right say the same thing since no other network daytime game show is competing against it (for now).
bottom line for me is despite its so called "ratings" it's getting these days. This once-classic beloved show's reputation is ruined just like the other classic Goodson-Todman properties that Fremantle has put in the paper shredder. and again you can support it if you like but I'm not supporting this version one iota. but even though we may have differences on the current host and how the way Dismantle Greedia handles the series itself, can we still all agree that Joey Fatone sucks as the announcer on the show anyways?
comedyfreak 02-27-2014, 12:45 PM I don't really like Steve as the host. I've only seen previews the show does nothing for me.

I'm fine with Joey and FF and with Steve. I will admit as I have already, he can get a bit annoying here and there. Sometimes, I wanna say, "Let it go, Steve". LOL. I actually liked Louie Anderson as host of the show. I was pleased with all the hosts of the show. However, Richard Dawson and Ray Combs do go to the top of the list. Steve H is entertaining and does a good job as host. He does get me laughing, I'll admit.

well I'm glad that you like Louie Anderson as well, I liked him too. but back to "you know who" do you remember seeing him host a week of the syndicated version of "Millionaire" (during the Vieira era of course) I know that was supposed to be a "practice" gig and all, but none the less he was terrible doing it. Heck even SNL did a parody of him once played by Kenan Thompson to remind him that he was terrible as a "Millionaire" host. but at lest it didn't kill Millionaire and Meredith's career unlike a similar fate that happens to Feud now!

Boy, you do not like Steve Harvey, huh? LOL. Whew! No love, huh?
My favorite quote from the SNL parody was this:
"You like did suit, playa? It's from da Steve Haaarvey Collection".
Now, Steve hates it when they parody him on SNL. I wanna tell him as many times he uses others at their expense for laughs, he should not be mad. LOL.

I guess that he would probably have a heart attack if he'd watched the skit ''Celebrity Edition: Family Feud" on SNL where once again it features Kenan Thompson playing as "You know Who" as host (BTW I never watched the skit anyway, nothing against Kenan Thompson though). But in all seriousness I just don't like him as a game show host period, I mean with all the expensive suit, fake smiles and all annoying-as-hell mannerisms on Feud. He comes off to me as being more of a Pimp/Playa (spelled as "P-L-A-Y-A", not "P-L-A-Y-E-R") than a game show host, which for one I think it's offensive to the show and the franchise itself as a whole. As a matter of fact, I think Harvey's face-off podium is offensive to the franchise as well if you have noticed that it kind of remind me of the twin towers from New York during the 9/11 era and the current Feud in the past during both the Anderson & Karn era's of the program did episodes to pay homage to 9/11 in the past. Call me a Hypocrite if you like, but I think that Harvey's current face-off podium is giving the middle finger to the victims of friends and families that have lost their some if not all of their relatives to that tragic event which is wrong.
ThomasE 03-08-2014, 12:34 PM I don't think that is what Steve or the franchise is trying to do in any way.

now seriously sir, are you trying to make me come back watching this piece of garbage version? because if you are that is not going to work with me.
also let me tell you this, I think that the staff members, the cast and crew for this current version of Feud have to be cocaine dealers and crackheads from the ghetto. I mean how do you think Harvey would shout out: Ya Mama jumped out da cake, They be eatin' Moose or Don't wanna see a "Nekkid" Grandma (again spelled there way "N-E-K-K-I-D" instead of "N-A-K-E-D"). there is nothing good, family-friendly, intelligent or encouraging about this version at all, this version is encouraging both blacks and whites to say that being an idiot, being a N***A from the ghetto and using ghetto slang is ok even though in reality its not. Many pervious versions before it used to have a balance between intelligence and dumbness and now for this version alone dumbness is succeeding while intelligence is falling flat on its butt.
Harvey is so much of a idiotic dumb negro that he wouldn't have the audacity to clean poop and piss from an expensive alligator shoe if the instructions come on a sole. also to add to the millionaire rant there was one episode in one of his "practice" gig (if you would like to call that anyway) he didn't even referenced Regis Philbin once now he did mention former host Meredith Vieira from the syndicated version of Millionaire which I don't mind but he never referenced Mr. Philbin once let alone heard about him. So Harvey, you mean to tell me that Regis Philbin who did the ABC primetime version three times and has made Millionaire a household name and you forgetful feckless mater of television don't even care one iota about him.
YOU ARE UNFORGIVEN HARVEY DO YOU HEAR ME UN-FOR-GIVEN!

let'swatchtv 03-21-2014, 10:54 PM You hate and resent him that much, huh? Don't see why but oh, well....
Oh there's is a reason why, he is not nice or kind to contestants after the few episodes I viewed in 2010 as He is not a legitimate game show host at all, he is a straight up demon spawn from Satan's pregnant stomach and crapped out from birth to destroy the innocents from this former Goodson-Todman property that's been disguised as a Brotha (spelled "B-R-O-T-H-A" not "B-R-O-T-H-E-R") on TV who tries to damn hard to be filthy, creepy, dirty and racist with his jokes along with the contestants jokes instead of being clean "at all times" (a.k.a the other way around) on this version by getting so called "FAKE" ratings so that people like you to continue to glorify and worship the ground he stomps on by his big feet crushing the innocent and cleanliness of this show into a racist, bigoted, idiotic and sexified orgy sketch comedy parody party. also this dumb blank white page of a brain thinks that he was one of the "Blue Collar Tour" members instead of being in one of the "Original Kings of Comedy" I know you want to call me a nutjob but before you do, check out this youtube Behind-the-scenes video and you'll see what I mean: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnHi5gvpmfk]. Yes, no mentioning of Cedric the Entertainer (or Kyles) as Casey Abbell of game show follies has mentioned from time and time again, no D.L. Hughely and not even Bernie Mac (R.I.P) has been mentioned in that video. Instead this clueless gimp thinks that he has been touring with a guy who used to host Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? and currently The American Bible Challenge respectively instead of one of his "R-E-A-L" boys that (formerly) made him who he is in the past instead of this pitifully dumb, overrated (along with his association with the series) and bald handlebar wearing moustache S.O.B for which this British game show title (which also includes Surveys mind you) hosted by Alexander Armstrong along with Richard Osman best describe him along with this version of the franchise and that would be...(say it with me Anti-Harvey fans from the game show world in unison folks on the count of three, ready...1...2...3...)
POINTLESS!
also I should add that Joey Fatone (repeating again) sucks as the announcer for this so-called blatant version. I think that he is there to get a pay check who's not even seen in the Atlantic Civic Center as he is disguised as a recording for the show which I also think that he might be probably racist himself. (and once again) Gene Wood and Burton Richardson were 10x times better than him. Heck even the announcer from TNA who did the wrestlers vs. knockouts special in 2007 was better than this hack.
If Mark Goodson and/or Bill Todman were alive seeing this, I bet you one (or both) of them would probably get a heart attack including TPIR since Fremantle continues to Rape and Mame their classic creations. Heck even Blockbusters with Simon Mayo on Challenge TV in England never got renewed for series 2 after it got good ratings from series 1. I know that's off topic and all. but that is a further example as to why Fremantle doesn't give a damn about the classics they have in their possession anymore.
now can we please stop talking about baldy hosting the show OK? I know that I mentioned him and all. but it's making me so sick about it that it makes me want to forget that this version didn't even exist, so sick it makes me want to have amnesia and forget this version ever exist on our TV sets, heck, it makes me so sick about speaking of him that it makes me want to pull a "Ray Combs" and hang myself in closest with towels that are used as a noose just for mentioning him in the first place (no offense to Ray of course).
IN OTHER WORDS, I'M DONE TALKING ABOUT THIS FAKER AND I DONT WANT TO EVER IN MY LIFE MENTION HIM AGAIN.
Dude111 03-22-2014, 12:52 AM I dislike the fact that the questions now have a raunchy flavor to them at times, especially for a show with "Family" as part of its title. Yes well seeing everything has gone down in quality and most people THINK CRAP IS BETTER NOW,its no surprise!!
The BEST thing they could do is bring back the ORIGINAL FORMAT AND LAYOUT OF THE ROOM!!!
I dont watch it now,its horrid......... AUDIENCE RIGHT THERE,ETC.......
Another GOOD SHOW from the 80s destroyed......
