View Full Version : Who's Your Favorite Pet?
BlueJasmine 11-14-2013, 12:52 PM Wally and Beaver had several pets over the years (although none of them seemed to last very long  ). But they sure did have a lot of them! :cow: :cat: :sheep :ducky: :turkey: :dog:
Which one is your favorite? (And did I leave anybody out??? :X) )

I didn't vote (yet) because I'm torn between the rat and the alligator!
ThisLittlePiggy 11-14-2013, 02:17 PM Which one is your favorite? (And did I leave anybody out??? :X) )
I think you left out Stanley the monkey. And he had pigeons once. And he found a dog once.
I remember he lied about having a pet parrot to his class. Did he ever get a real bird or not?
ThisLittlePiggy 11-14-2013, 02:18 PM Oh, and he kept a neighbor's cat for awhile, Bootsie.
:)
ThisLittlePiggy 11-14-2013, 02:23 PM I didn't vote (yet) because I'm torn between the rat and the alligator!
Okay, I voted for Peter Gunn. But Captain Jack comes in second place. :)
BlueJasmine 11-14-2013, 08:58 PM I didn't vote (yet) because I'm torn between the rat and the alligator!
I didn't vote, either, because I'm torn between the rabbit, the horse, and the burro  (Although the rat has a special place in my heart, too. because he was named Peter Gunn )

I remembered the pigeons after I posted the poll, but I don't remember their names :( only that Larry buried them and gave them a funeral (which was exactly when I first really started liking Larry  )
I don't remember the monkey at all! (Is it possible that I've actually missed some episodes??? ) The dog you're talking about is the Chihuahua named Poncho, right? (I didn't include the pets that belonged to other people ;) ) As for a bird, I don't know  Maybe someone can help us out with that one :)
BlueJasmine 11-14-2013, 09:07 PM Okay, I voted for Peter Gunn. But Captain Jack comes in second place. :)
I still can't decide :wallbang :wallbang :wallbang

LOL, Peter Gunn is a great name for a rat (or anyone!) Ha!

I don't think the pigeons had names. And yes, the dog was Poncho. Beaver's Monkey Stanley is in Season 3. Larry and Beaver saw a sign in the store for a free monkey to good home. LOL
ThisLittlePiggy 11-16-2013, 02:54 AM The parrot story was from Pet Fair. Beaver did not have a pet to bring to the pet fair at school so he made up that he had a talking, singing parrot. But then when the day came to bring the pet, Beaver tried to buy one but I think it cost too much or something. I can't remember if Ward was able to borrow the parrot for the pet fair or not. I forget what the outcome was. I think Ward might have bought a hamster for Beaver to take to class but Beaver wasn't happy because he'd already told the big fib about having the parrot.
Zinc2 11-16-2013, 08:33 PM Beaver's pigeons were named Miss Canfield and Miss Landers and they were given a funeral by Larry and Whitey. Larry's pigeons were Nate and Al, they survived the cat attack.
Early on in the Pet Fair episode, Beaver is given a hamster by Ward and in the last scene thanks him for it. The episode mainly revolves around the parrot---Sgt. Burke. He is "rented" for the day, so Beaver can take him to the pet fair at school, thus saving face by claiming he actually owns the parrot.
As far as the poll goes: My vote for favorite pet is Captain Jack. His presence creates so many funny senerios. The alligator tour in the boys' bedroom, the missing cold cream/eggs/brandy, and Ward's deduction that Minerva is suspect, just a few examples. The Captain Jack episode is historic too. The first one filmed (second one shown) and showing the toilet tank was a very big deal back in 1957.

Oh, thanks! Now that you're jogged my memory, I can remember Miss Canfield and Miss Landers as the pigeons' names.
Thanks for helping me recall what happened on the Pet Fair episode too.
BlueJasmine 11-17-2013, 11:29 AM LOL, Peter Gunn is a great name for a rat (or anyone!) Ha!
I LOVE that show (and the actor who plays Peter Gunn, too :loveya:  :eyes: Not to mention the great theme song by Henry Mancini )
I also love the way the Cleavers were always making references to other TV shows, and people, that were popular at the time (besides Peter Gunn, they've mentioned The Untouchables, Twilight Zone, Jackie Kennedy, Cesar Romero, Sandra Dee, and several others, too, that I can't remember). That made the show even more realistic, because, of course, the family would have been watching television :)

I guess I missed that ep completely  Well, METV is airing season 2 right now, so I have something to look forward to :)

I guess I missed that one, too  Do you remember what season it was in?

I thought that those pigeons had names! (I just couldn't remember them :( )
Thanks for clearing that up ;) :)
I remember reading about the Captain Jack episode and how it was supposed to be the very first show of the entire series, but it didn't make it past the censors in time for its air date (because a toilet had never been shown on TV before omg: omg: omg:) In the end, a compromise was struck and the show was allowed to show the toilet tank only :censored: :nonono: :yippee: party: :thanx: :rotflmao:  :clap) Unfortunately, the compromise didn't come in time for Captain Jack to be the show's first episode--as the producers originally intended!
BlueJasmine 11-17-2013, 12:07 PM There is a 4-way tie in this poll between Herbie the toad, Henry the rabbit, Captain Jack the alligator, and Peter Gunn the rat

Yes. If you have Netflix, you can watch it there too.

Pet Fair is in Season 3. :)
BlueJasmine 11-26-2013, 11:10 PM Pet Fair is in Season 3. :)
Thank you :D It's good to know that I haven't seen all of the Beaver eps (almost like having a new season to look forward to  )
Nick, the horse, is winning this poll :woohoo:

Eddie Haskell made a reference to wanting to be like "those guys on 'Route 66' in a 1963 episode, "Merchant Marine."
Scrabjan1 11-27-2013, 04:18 PM I think my favorite pet was Pepe because he seemed so lonely. Gilbert and Richard pressure Beaver to buy him then neither one of them can keep him. They actually leave Pepe all alone in the Cleaver yard. I don't think he was ever fed. I think Beaver should have taken the whole $20 because they had to find a home for Pepe. They also make reference to Tuesday Weld, Kookie from 77 Sunset Strip and Susan Hayward.
Dude111 11-29-2013, 03:13 PM I didn't vote (yet) because I'm torn between the rat and the alligator! :crazy:I was gonna pick the alligator but I chose that Horse they had :)
BlueJasmine 12-02-2013, 04:24 PM Giddy Up!
:horse: (Well, he's not REALLY a dead horse because he's still winning  But it was the only horse smilie that I could find ;) )
BlueJasmine 12-02-2013, 04:36 PM Eddie Haskell made a reference to wanting to be like "those guys on 'Route 66' in a 1963 episode, "Merchant Marine."
Yes, I remember that now! :D And I also remember Wally making a reference to Perry Mason, too  I think it was really cool of the writers to do stuff like that :biglove:

Oh, I'm so glad that somebody voted for Pepe :D (because he was one of my top choices, too ) I will never forget that poor burro running around the Cleaver's back yard with a trellis around his neck    (I know that, technically, it wasn't really funny, but I couldn't help it--I cracked up!)
It's really weird that you would mention Tuesday Weld, because I was going to bring her up in one of my above posts, but I wasn't 100% sure that the show had mentioned her, so I didn't. Thanks for clearing that up :rainbow:   )
BlueJasmine 12-02-2013, 04:59 PM I was gonna pick the alligator but I chose that Horse they had :)
Well, somebody did vote for Captain Jack  (In fact, everybody got at least one vote  ) But Nick the horse is still winning :happyface
ThisLittlePiggy 12-02-2013, 09:37 PM :horse: (Well, he's not REALLY a dead horse because he's still winning  But it was the only horse smilie that I could find ;) )
CanICallYouDad 12-06-2013, 11:18 PM I don't have a fav pet but the episode with the monkey is the best of the pet lot. It was nice to see June having the girls over and the end when Beav is on the phone and his father overhears him trying to book passage to South America for the monkey is touching
Scrabjan1 12-22-2013, 05:51 PM I like Ward's face when Beaver mentions how having Stanley is almost as good as having a baby brother. June's face is also interesting. Reminds me of Beaver and Poncho when June is knitting something and Ward gets nervous.
I believe Tuesday Weld is mentioned at least twice. In Eddie's Credit Card after Wally pays Eddie the $15 and warns him to pay his father, Eddie asks "What do you think I'm gonna do elope with Tuesday Weld?"
Beaver mentions Wyatt Earp and Larry mentions Perry Como. Eddie is always mentioning some celeb of the time. "I think that's how Sal Mineo got started." (Beaver, the Model) "If it can happen to Fabian it can happen to anyone." (Beaver's Accordion). I'm sure it's been mentioned but "It brings out the Peter Lawford in me." is my favorite.
BellaCat 01-25-2014, 11:18 PM I liked the Captain Jack episode. Having an alligator for a pet is quite interesting.
Bonniegirl 10-08-2015, 12:57 PM I voted for Pepe the burro
Torgo 10-08-2015, 03:41 PM Stanley the Monkey.
Even June grew attached to him.
Kabuki 10-09-2015, 11:53 PM Beaver also had a goldfish that he one when he was trying to win a prodigy collie and one of his episodes
Bonniegirl 10-10-2015, 12:02 AM Beaver also had a goldfish that he one when he was trying to win a prodigy collie and one of his episodes
Oh yeah!!! That ep was on not too long ago! ;)
They weren't his pets but animal guest stars!!! I loved Puff Puff the cat that Beaver and Wally cat sitted for the Donaldson's and Bootsie the cat that Beaver fed and he kept coming back to the Cleaver home! So adorable!!! ;) Also Eddie's dog and Gilbert's dog from the two eps. They were so cute too!!! :)
MISST3 01-19-2016, 01:05 AM My favorite pet is Herbie the toad, which Beaver giftwrapped and gave as
a peace-offering to Penny Jamison in "Wally's Girl Trouble"!
Sloper 03-20-2016, 04:26 PM Definitely Captain Jack the alligator that the boys got in the mail. That was a great story.
