View Full Version : Thank goodness they didn't replace James with another actor
Tap Dancer 11-13-2013, 03:15 PM I hate that James was killed off, but I have replacements even more. I'm so glad they didn't bring in a new guy to take over the role of James. It's bad enough Carl came along, but at least he wasn't around long. I liked Carl as Michael's boss, but he was the worst possible match for Florida! Besides, Florida had loved James so much that I couldn't see her being in another relationship for many years.
ThomasE 11-13-2013, 05:48 PM Agreed! That writing was forced and I don't like that. It is hard for me to believe that Florida would move on six months after the love of her life for almost 30 years dies and then accepts another marriage proposal within a year of her husband's death. Norman Lear screwed that up.

But not SIX MONTHS after the spouse is gone (in this case). That's too soon IMO.

Exactly! Especially not when a couple is as in love as James and Florida. She lost her husband suddenly, which makes it even more tragic. I would think Florida would wait at least a couple of years before dating again.

Agreed. Even Michael Hogan waited a year and a half after Valerie died on "The Hogan" Family. LOL.
TVFactFan 11-14-2013, 08:41 PM I see what yall saying, they could have waited until season 5 not the same season he died
ThomasE 11-15-2013, 12:06 AM Yeah. Exactly! Do you hear how your post sounds? The same year!!! That's crazy. I'm glad you understand. The writing was so forced. Norman made a mistake.
GARFIELDKOOL 11-19-2013, 05:09 PM I said it many times before, and I will say it again, Uncle Wilbur (Lou Gossett) would have been the best replacement for James. He was great IMO when he filled in for James in that one episode. The way he blended in with the characters was awesome. That was chemistry right there!

He played her brother, not her boyfriend or husband. He didn't have to be her love interest, he just needed to fill that man void.
Bronson 01-26-2014, 06:17 PM I agree. If they needed a patriarch, Florida's brother would certainly been a much idea than getting Florida remarried.
