are they going out of business COMPLETELY? Or are they just closing their stores but keeping their on-line rental business open? Because I rent from them on-line but I haven't gotten anything in the mail that says to return the discs I have out. But my sister and my niece say they're going out of business COMPLETELY. So which is it?

All of the Blockbuster stores in the U.S. will close by January 2014, as well as the DVD-by-mail service.
They will now be working similar to Netflix w/ downloading online.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Blockbuster discontinuing the DVD by mail service?
While this is a difficult decision, we all recognize that consumer demand has moved away from the disc rental business to video-on-demand and the digital distribution of video entertainment. Last year Dish Network introduced Blockbuster@Home which we believe is the most comprehensive movie service available including 15 movie channels, new releases on demand, over 20,000 movies and TV shows available on line and streamed to your devices.
Why did Dish acquire Blockbuster if it closed its stores and by mail service?
Dish Network acquired the assets of Blockbuster in April 2011 through a bankruptcy auction. We recognized that the entertainment landscape was changing, and we believe that Blockbuster will continue to evolve its online delivery. As such, the Blockbuster@Home and Blockbuster On Demand services are available today to Blockbuster members. These two products will provide Blockbuster members with virtually all the services members received through retail stores and by mail. .
Can I keep my DVDs/Blu-ray discs?
You can choose to return your last disc(s) to our facilities within 30 days of the end of your service month or choose to keep the disc(s) you have and be billed the appropriate amount to purchase those products.
When will the last day be for DVD delivery?
Memberships will continue to renew until November 13th, from that time forward, no new renewals will be processed. All customers will continue to receive service through the end of their individual service month. The service will shut down approximately December 13, 2013.
Is Blockbuster going completely out of business?
No. Blockbuster is phasing out of the physical rental and retail business. The Blockbuster@Home and Blockbuster On Demand services will remain available to customers. These two products will provide Blockbuster members with virtually all services received through retail stores and by mail. You can also visit www.Blockbuster.com/athome for more information.
What is Blockbuster doing for its existing customers?
All by mail customers will continue to receive service through the end of their individual service month. In addition we have arranged for a special Blockbuster@home offer for all existing customers. More details can be found at www.Blockbuster.com/athome .
How do I redeem my Gift Cards?
Valid Blockbuster gift cards can be used to purchase discs on-line at Blockbuster.com or to make purchases in our stores during both regular and liquidation operations. All gift cards should be redeemed prior to January 5, 2014.
What is happening to the stores?
As announced on November 6th, the remaining Blockbuster stores will be shutting down as well. Stores will be starting liquidation shortly and details on each store’s activity will be provided at the store locations.
Can I still exchange by mail movies at the store?
Most stores last day of rentals will be around November 9th. Once a store goes into the liquidation status, they can no longer rent titles and as a result you will not be able to have access to in-store exchanges.

I used to rent videos from them until the store by me closed. It was a great store.

Our local Blockbuster got a lot of video business from me until they closed. Too bad. Hate to see them go but there is so much competition out there now!
