View Full Version : Is anyone shocked to hear the character Cliff Huxtable cuss in the pilot episode Neutronman67 11-08-2013, 10:31 AM Was anyone else shocked to see that the character Cliff Huxtable was a raw and bad character in the pilot episode in the room with his son theo he utters the D word ??? Tap Dancer 11-08-2013, 08:14 PM Shocked by an adult saying "Damn?" TVFactFan 11-08-2013, 08:20 PM Shocked by an adult saying "Damn?" Don't take his threads seriously, he has a pattern of these types of threads all over the boards. Tap Dancer 11-09-2013, 09:03 AM Don't take his threads seriously, he has a pattern of these types of threads all over the boards. I see that. You can't resist sometimes, though, like when he asked if Theo referring to girls as "burgers" was sexist. WTF? ladybug1980 11-10-2013, 06:00 PM Was anyone else shocked to see that the character Cliff Huxtable was a raw and bad character in the pilot episode in the room with his son theo he utters the D word ??? Cliff was right when he said that was the dumbest thing he ever heard in his life. A parent can't just accept his kid casually getting Ds and not giving a damn (now I used it) about how he does in school. Neutronman67 11-11-2013, 12:20 PM Yeah when its coming from a saint like Dr Cliff Huxtable yeah The Cosby Show is suppose to be this Black version sitcom like The Brady Bunch, Bill Cosby is always saying how sitcoms like Good Times and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air are not good shows for young people to watch because it will rot their brains, yet Bill forgot that he said the D word in the pilot episode he also in the same episode makes an impression of beating theo with a baseball bat to clair as a joke maybe he should tell folks in his speeches not to watch the pilot episode of The Cosby Show because of slight profanity lol. ladybug1980 11-11-2013, 05:36 PM about the baseball bat thing though - as soon as Cliff took the baseball bat and proceeded upstairs with it, Clair exclaimed "Cliff!" as to say "Come on Cliff I didn't mean LITERALLY kill him," etc. Clair would have verbally attacked Theo no doubt about it but she didn't want Cliff literally beating their son with the baseball bat. I must not have seen it yet. MacLeaper 11-11-2013, 06:24 PM Shocked by an adult saying "Damn?" Yes. It should be shocking, but unfortunately it's become all too common place. It is shocking and annoying to hear Bill Cosby use that phrase, but at least he didn't make a habit of it on the show. It doesn't matter what age someone is- no one should use foul language and/or take the Name of The Lord in vain. ThomasE 11-13-2013, 06:14 PM If people were watching for the first time back in 1984, maybe it would not have been so much of a shocker. I remember watching the first episode at age six but can't remember him saying it. Mace Dolex 11-15-2013, 04:43 PM It's more common now in shows to hear a "damn" or "hell" once in awhile I mean in an early 90's episode of The Simpsons a character called Santa's Little Helper an SOB once. V-The Final Battle miniseries which came out in 1984 also had a few "damns" and "dammits" in it. Wrong, the word HELL and DAMM was uttered on All in the Family and the Jeffersons 10 years or so before the Cosby Show James28 11-16-2013, 05:25 PM Have any other characters swore on any other episodes of The Cosby Show? BigManMike 11-16-2013, 06:21 PM Have any other characters swore on any other episodes of The Cosby Show? Not really. The pilot scene was repeated twice, once in a flashback episode "Looking Back" in Season 4, and again in the very last episode when Theo graduates from college and Cliff is remembering that conversation. Other than that, Cliff never swore again, and Claire and the children never swore either. The only other swears that happened were once in Season 5 episode No Way Baby, early on when Cliff and Sammy Davis Jr. were having a conversation, I remember Sammy said damn once. And in the Season 8 episode Pam Applies to College, Pam mutters damn to herself in her bedroom where no one else is around when she is frustrated. But both of those I never would have noticed if I hadn't had the captions on. Other then that, there was never any other swearing on this show. tvfan25 08-03-2014, 08:53 PM Remember when they played the drinking game with Vanessa? Vanessa had the letter L and couldn't think of anything and Cliff said, "You're in an L of a jam now!? That was kinda funny. ThomasE 08-03-2014, 09:02 PM Yes, that was funny! I was thinking to myself as a kid, "Ooh! It sounds like Cliff almost cussed!" I was a little shocked. king of comedy 08-04-2014, 06:59 AM I have forgot he did that. |
