cleverfun3000 11-07-2013, 07:18 AM I read the entire article and while he certainly has a right to his opinion, he is covering an awful lot of ground here. He can't possibly be right about EVERYTHING; there's just too much of an overview on too many things.

ABlairican Pie 11-08-2013, 07:32 PM He may not be right about everything, but I notice that today's music scene is hardly the one that brought him to prominence over 35 years ago. I don't see too many artists really shaking things up in rock and roll, you have to be some skanky teenybopper or foul-mouth rap "artist" to do that. Woah, so cutting edge!!! ohno:
dakert 11-10-2013, 01:06 AM I dont know about shaking things up but 35 years you could listen to the top 40 and actually enjoy most of the songs
Dude111 11-10-2013, 02:22 AM Hehe Indeed you could!!
cleverfun3000 11-10-2013, 09:48 AM I think I have figured out the entire "bad music" situation that's been going on for a while now. New music is mostly for pre-teens, teenagers and people in thier 20's. They basically have just started to listen to music and since they were not aware of how great music was decades ago, they have nothing to compare it to - except more new bad music. I, like many many people find today's music annoying, badly sung and just plain lousy - so here is what I do. I got back to the 70's, 80's and early 90's and listen to entire albums of artists who made songs that represent the quality that I refuse to give up. Here I am constantly discovering over and over "new" songs that never got airplay, that are every bit as good as the main one or two songs that made it into the TOP 40. This way I never, ever have to listen to the irritating garbage that's pumped out by today's so-called musicians.
UMFaninMD 11-10-2013, 12:32 PM There are a few new songs I like that while the lyrics are mindless, they're fun to listen to and good for dancing. However, the majority of the music that's on my phone and what I listen to on the Internet are from the 60's - late 80's. There was such a variety back then. You could hear rock, pop, new wave, hip-hop all together. Now it's so individualized, and if your song doesn't have a rapper barking out dumb rhymes that has nothing to do with the other lyrics, it pretty much gets ignored. And don't get me started on modern country, which has become as equally bad with it's one-note, one-track song themes.

I do the same thing but with promo 45's that got little or no airplay. I started collecting them several years ago and have about 2000 or more. The more valuable ones I'll record to cd and sell the 45 on Ebay.

I'm sure you meant no harm but there's no need in using all caps to stress your point. People here will see and understand your posts without the extra help.

TheCars1986 11-13-2013, 10:42 AM I stopped reading when it said "Petty's latest record, "The Last DJ""...
MrCleveland 11-13-2013, 05:19 PM I agree...Rock Music doen't have an identity anymore, It's just an industry full of Cash Cows.
When Rock was young...people didn't take themselves TOO seriously and not all of them wanted to get rich overnight, they played from the heart.
Now we just have recycled music, sure there's a few good songs...but I too stopped listening to the radio.

80sTrivia 11-14-2013, 05:42 AM Have to agree, the music scene today is a sad, pale ghost of what it used to be... :(
