Much as I like Tuesday Weld, I think the show was more interesting with a variety of girls.

I didn't care for her whiny, breathy, overdramatic portayal either, and I absolutely HATED Warren Beatty as Milton. The show was much better without them; Zelda and Chatsworth were much more likeable characters.

I think the departure of Zelda in the final season hurt the show more than Thalia's departure!

I agree 100%! I can barely watch season 4.

The show did not have a very good final season but then you could say that about a great many shows.

Hmm I've seen 2 episodes of the final season and it's not the same. It's like a bad cartoon. Maybe that's why I'm having trouble watching these episodes every night unlike the other 3 seasons.

Without. Thalia was a one-note character.....

The final season is cartoonish and just plain weird. I don't enjoy it at all. Even the four episodes with Zelda in them are not great and she is my favorite supporting character. I like And Now a Word From Our Sponsor where Dobie becomes the campus DJ and Zelda decides to become a singing sensation in order to make him fall in love with her. The scene where she has Maynard photograph her for her sexy album cover cracks me up. The other episodes she is in are just as bad as the rest of the season. The Moon and No Pence has a strange feel to it, Thanks for the Memory is a remake of a season one episode and I feel like Dobie/Zelda are completely out of character in this one mainly because it is a remake of a Dobie/Thalia episode and you can't just put Zelda in place of Thalia and have the story make sense, and The Rice and Old Shoe Caper is a big disappointment. Zelda convincing Maynard to marry her in order to try to force Dobie into marriage seems a little too extreme even for her. After al,l she knew she was hurting Maynard and didn't care and in the end Dobie was willing to marry her and be miserable for the rest of his life just to save his friend, but finally the justice of the peace called it off. No one really shows any sign of coming to their senses or caring just a little about the other person, which until this season had been common. Plus it is Zelda's last episode so I feel like she kind of goes out on a sour note. A big disappointment!

This is a bit off-topic, but I've often heard the expression "It turned into a cartoon", or "He turned into a cartoon", or "She turned into a cartoon".

I never could figure out what exactly they mean by that. And obviously, it's not in the literal sense, either.

It means that something or someone has become silly, childish, or ridiculous. Not meaning any offense to cartoon fans...but it is just a figure of speech.

What Zelda said in this thread.

Thalia was no good for Dobie. Zelda should have always been his girl. Zelda finally was depicted to marry Dobie in the reunion.

The basic rule is that Tuesday Weld makes everything better.
Tuesday Weld was and still is a beautiful woman. She just did not treat Dobie the way he should have been treated.

Tuesday Weld may make everything better but Thalia Menninger doesn't!!

I'm in agreement with most here, although I will say that I thought Thalia's return was pretty exciting.

I've read 2 full-length biographies of Warren Beatty, but unfortunately neither one really offered much insight into his work on the series.

I do like seeing Jean Byron late in the series. I can tolerate most of the final season episodes -- except the jungle one, which I've found pretty much unwatchable...!

I actually liked Thalia. She added to spunk the girls on the show.

Thalia could be downright annoying and a lot of times I wanted to smack her.
