I think I mentioned this way uphthread, but one of my co-workers was in the episode where Sabrina agrees to help Josh study. The subplot was that Hilda and Zelda hire pirates to clean their house, and he played one of the pirates. He said MJH was sweet - a very nice girl. But MJH's mother (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115341/board/flat/221248605?d=221248605&p=1#221248605) (who was the Executive Producer) was a whole other story. He likened her to a mob boss in one of those old movies -- she was that kind of stage mother. She took care of Melissa, and watched out for her, but she was extemely difficult to work for.
My co-worker guessed that this was why Sabrina's friends never stuck around for more than a year or two: Melissa's mother ran the show, and they were never going to keep anyone around who took the spotlight away from her.
