I recently read a list ranking the 12 Star Trek films from worst to best. To my surprise Insurrection was placed bottom. Surely 5 is the worst one?!

Seriously, like have you ever watched 5?

For me there are three categories of Trek film, ‘good’, ‘bad’ and ‘ok’. Insurrection falls into the ‘ok’ category (along with 3, 7, 10).

Following on from First Contact was always going to be tough, but it all had all the right ingredients. Jonathan Frakes returned to direct, Jerry Goldsmith returned for the music, it was the first film to be fully CGI for the ship scenes too. It could of been great.

Insurrection is not a brilliant film. But it’s not the worst Trek film. I decided to put my case across the only sensible way, anonymously though the internet. Please comment away, good or bad comments appreciated, this is my first article.

I agree that it wasn't bad. The second of TNG films was still the best.

I'm sorry, but the TNG films were absolute dreck. All of them. Nemesis was the worst one of a rotten bunch. Insurrection was a silly, stupid movie that made little sense and was ridiculous. It even ripped off the skin stretching scene from the film Brazil. Also, the stupid end of the movie battle with geriatric Picard and the other old guy. That was one of 10 million examples why the TNG movies blew.....they made Picard an action figure.

The only good thing about Insurrection was the actress that played Picard's love interest. She was beautiful and looked good next to Picard. But that is about it.

If you go to YouTube, look up Red Letter Media Star Trek. Although the guy is somewhat goofy in his humor, he is spot on with everything pertaining the overall awfulness of the TNG films, the plotholes, ridiculous, lazy writing, et all.

Frakes by and large is a joke too. C list actor, C list director. For some reason, trek allowed the actors to be directors (for some reason) with mixed results.
The TOS films were far more entertaining than the TNG movies, even the goofy fifth movie (that Shatner directed for some reason). Really except for Leonard Nimoy, no one really had any business being a director.

I am happy to see any of the TOS films again ( III and V were the weakest ones, III was a bridge film between II and IV. V wasn't great, but it wasn't horrid either). I would never voluntarily watch a TNG film unless you tied me to a chair, ripped my eyelids off and shot me full of liquid crystal meth made by Walter White.

I do love Star Trek as a whole, all the series (well, not so much Enterprise..) I own all the series but Enterprise and have literally seen everything that this franchise has done from the 1966 Jeffery Hunter pilot to the 2013 movie (don't get me started on the mostly crap the new films are either.......) Honestly, I do not think Trek translates that well as movies. Need another TV series, even a good animated series. Mostly all the movies provide is a "baddie" for the good guys to kill, a bunch of cliches, tired jokes, explosions and The End and thanks for the money.......

Again, check out Red Letter Media and listen to that guys critique of all the TNG films. He is 100 percent spot on.

I love "Star Trek" and I think all the films have generally been great. I will admit that "Star Trek: Nemesis" is my least favorite though, mainly because they killed off Data. (But it's okay- Data comes back in the books!)
And it was nice to see Riker and Troi finally get married and for Commander Riker to become Captain Riker. But at the same time- I hate to see the classic ST:TNG crew broken up. So I'd rather watch the original "Star Trek: The Next Generation" series- that's classic. And read the books based on it, of course. (I haven't followed all the new ones as of recent though- just don't have the time or money to keep up with it all anymore.)
But I saw "Star Trek: Insurrection" in theaters- I never thought it was bad. I like it just fine. I like it a lot better than the last two Star Trek films from J.J. Abrams and than "Star Trek: Nemesis" (though like I said- I do like parts of that film.) And some things from Abrams' films are good- but for the most part, I don't like that Spock's world has been destroyed and Vulcan is no more. (i.e. the original Spock- Leonard Nimoy.) I now see that was all just an excuse to get the current set of movies set in a different dimension so that anything done there wouldn't upset fans of the original series too much, since it can just be dismissed as an alternate universe that doesn't affect the trajectory of the original series.
But "Star Trek: Generations" and "Star Trek: First Contact" are some of my favorites of the Star Trek movies. Though I will admit it's hard to ever top the classics with the original crew- "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" (I particularly love those last two- I cry on some scenes in those), "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home", "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" (love this movie too, even though I do have some theological issues with it) and "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country".
I generally can find something to enjoy and love in all of them. I'd still love to see a reunion movie with the remaining cast members of "Star Trek", "Star Trek: The Next Generation", "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Star Trek: Enterprise" though. It'd be great to see them all together in a movie.:) :cool:
