Yahoo Canada News item (http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/pulseofcanada/pick-pay-channel-system-benefit-consumers-154800091.html)
Now here's an idea that I've been waiting to see happen for many years. The Canadian government, led by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, is now proposing and considering a plan where cable and satellite systems across Canada (Bell, Rogers, Shaw, Cogeco) would offer consumers channels based on a "pick and pay" or "a la carte" system (instead of large expensive bundles) where you only pay for the specialty and digital channels you want to see. Everything else is excluded and removed from your TV except for likely the main networks like CBC, CTV, Global, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and a few others.
For example, as a sports fan, I can order the NHL network without also having to watch and pay for NBA TV. Why bother if you're not interested, right? This is an idea where I've read that many Canadians would support and I would be all for it too if the price is right.
Again, all this is just in the planning stages. How would you feel about it and what channels would you want in your package? Even though this story is from Canada, would you support it if it showed up in the US as well?
