"The Walking Dead" returned to record numbers again.

Sunday's Season 4 premiere delivered a whopping 16.1 million viewers, easily trumping its previous all-time series high of 12.4 million for the third season finale. The episode also drew a record 10.4 million in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, eclipsing the Season 3 finale (8.1 million), and was the No. 1 program Sunday night on all of television in the demo.

"Talking Dead" followed with its own premiere high of 5.1 million viewers and 3.3 million in the demo.

"Sincere thanks to the fans, who have welcomed The Walking Dead back for its fourth season with the highest-rated episode in the show's history," AMC President Charlie Collier said in a statement.

"We could not be more proud of this show and everyone on both sides of the camera who work so hard to give life to this story of character, leadership and survival."

Already the biggest thing on TV after NFL Football, "The Walking Dead’s" very good week just got a bit better.

With Live+3 numbers now in, the October 13 Season 4 debut of the AMC zombie apocalypse series added another 4.1 million viewers to the 16.1 million result of Live+Same Day.

That 20.2 million viewership total gives "The Walking Dead" premiere the title of the most watched non-sports telecast in cable history.
