View Full Version : Any cases you think probably CAN'T be solved now?
SheRaaa 10-13-2013, 06:53 PM There's a lot of cases on UM that still have yet to be solved -- however, are there any unsolved cases that, for various reasons, probably can no longer be solved?
For example, the Sharon Marshall/Franklin Delano Floyd case. I think it's possible (though not probable) someone could stumble across the body of Sharon's son, the one FDF kidnapped and presumably killed. However, I don't think it's even possible anymore to figure-out who Sharon really was. I think this because I believe her biological mother was probably a transient, and "Sharon" may have been born outside a hospital or with little, if any, documentation (birth certificate, social security number, etc.). Plus, Sharon was born well before the internet made it tough for anyone to live "off the grid."
Any other cases you think might no longer be solve-able nowadays?
MegtheEgg86 10-13-2013, 07:59 PM I wouldn't say it would be completely impossible, but I think it would be very, very difficult to solve the murder of George Coniff now that close to 80 years have passed.
Corkys-Place 10-14-2013, 01:36 AM There's heaps of cases that come to mind.
I can't see the DC Cooper case being solved anytime soon or Donald Eugene Webb being brought to justice...if he's even still alive!
TheCars1986 10-14-2013, 12:00 PM I don't know if the Marilu Geri murder will ever be solved, unless there's a confession.
DanCart 10-14-2013, 03:13 PM I don't know if the Marilu Geri murder will ever be solved, unless there's a confession.
Yeah, I was just thinking of that case ....
DanCart 10-14-2013, 03:15 PM other cases come to mind:
Roger Dean
Danny Casolaro
Don Henry & Kevin Ives
Spark Of Spirit 10-14-2013, 03:45 PM Unlikely...
I'd say there would be no way to prove Cindy James' death either way. If it was a murder we'd have to wait for a confession, if it was suicide it was planned very well.
The boys in the shack is also looking very improbable at being solved.
unsolved1981 10-14-2013, 05:12 PM Ralph Probst - cop shot through his kitchen window in the 60s, probably mob related, and everyone involved is probably dead
Dave Bocks - (some people will say it was 'accidental' but in another thread about this one, someone found an article that that the furnaces would have at the least required someone else opening it - it couldn't be done by one man alone)
SheRaaa 10-14-2013, 07:57 PM I totally agree that the Cindy James case may be an un-solvable one nowadays. It's hard to "prove" something was a suicide, and unless someone confesses, there's also no rock-solid evidence of who her potential murderer was.
UMFaninMD 10-14-2013, 08:14 PM A few come to mind:
Dale Kersetter
Su Taraskawitz
The Circleville Writer
The Wackers
karenjanee 10-14-2013, 08:58 PM too many to count but here is my favorite:
Glen & Bessie Hyde: due to the passage of time & no remains found.
TheCars1986 10-15-2013, 11:02 AM Billy the Kid/Brushy Bill Roberts will never be solved.
Oldschooler81 10-17-2013, 03:26 AM A few come to mind:
Dale Kersetter
Su Taraskawitz
The Circleville Writer
The Wackers
I was about to being up those wacky Wackers, but you beat me to it! It was already unlikely and bizarre enough on its own when the segment aired in 1994 (and even that's assuming you take everything they said at face value)... but with Bill passing away a few years later in 99, and Dorothy in 2010, I think that narrows it down slim to none.
RobinW 10-17-2013, 08:24 AM Sadly, I don't have much hope for cases where someone was murdered or went missing, but the prime suspect is now deceased.
For instance, it's pretty obvious who was responsible for Susan Harrison's death, but since Jim Harrison passed away a few years ago before he could charged, her case will never "officially" be solved.
I'm sure we can all agree that Steven Marfeo was responsible for his wife's disappearance, but since he committed suicide without disclosing the location of Doreen's body, she may never be found.
Pam Page and Jean Moore are two other cases where I believe the spouse was responsible, but they passed away without ever revealing the truth.
mikewho 10-19-2013, 09:03 PM I would say def Dave bocks. Seems like to solve that one somebody would have to come forward or maybe brag about being a part of it. I think Dave was murdered and wasn't suicide.
dale at the platinum plant also comes to mind. It he was part of it he would have to surface. If he wasn't part of it someone would need to give up some information. I think dale was innocent.
the boys on the tracks. This was clearly a case of murder but I think it will be hard to solve. Someone would need to come forward and name names.
WishfulDreamer 10-19-2013, 10:02 PM I'm sorry to say it, but I think the case of Rhonda Hinson. I think this one could only be solved if someone close to the shooter comes forward with information and sadly, it's been over 30 years. If this was someone Rhonda was seeing or being pursued by, as is theorized, it seems like both parties did a good job of keeping the man's identity secret.
Blackout 10-20-2013, 12:28 AM William Jordan is pretty much not going to be solved. He escaped prison 29 years ago and despite the obvious tattoos he hasn't been seen since.
janet42 10-20-2013, 10:15 AM The Boy in the Box. It's been over 56 years since he was discoverd.

Skyspy 10-21-2013, 05:47 AM I don't think the Jeremy Bright case will ever be solved; at least not for quite some time.
Blair Adams is another one that I don't think would be IMPOSSIBLE to solve, but again, I don't think it will be solved for a very long time, if at all.
mikewho 10-22-2013, 05:34 PM Another case that seems really hard to solve would be Dexter stefonek with the rest stop murder in (I think) Montana.
DanCart 10-23-2013, 02:50 PM I'm sorry to say it, but I think the case of Rhonda Hinson. I think this one could only be solved if someone close to the shooter comes forward with information and sadly, it's been over 30 years. If this was someone Rhonda was seeing or being pursued by, as is theorized, it seems like both parties did a good job of keeping the man's identity secret.
If the secret relationship is true, I would have thought affairs were harder to hide in small town environments ,someone should have observed something at some point .....
