View Full Version : 1976 Sumter County Unidentified Couple - possibly solved??
johnnyangel 10-13-2013, 04:59 PM Has anybody else gotten any other info on this? I found these links online as late as last August 2012 - apparently there may be some possible names to go along with the faces and they did DNA testing on the bones. Any updates?
Supposedly, some DNA sampling was done on the "McMinn's" (possible brother of the dead people), I am sure the results have to be in by now. It was done last August 2012.
THIS LINK IS VERY INTERESTING - this was from a news channel who did a story in 2010 - apparently some ghost trackers are trying to get information from the dead couple themselves by using those voice recorders. Before anybody laughs, watch the link. The lady (supposedly) said "yes" when they asked her if she was with them, and may have given the name Jacques/Jock Pierre or John Pierre as her partners name.. Again this cant be proven, but it is interesting to watch. Also, the initials in the ring he wore were 'JPF"
John or Jaques-Pierre F.

It would be absolutely amazing if these two were identified. Baby Hope finally being identified has given me new hope that some of these other cases that have remained unidentified for a long time will someday be solved.

They should have DNA results by now - if it isn't the McMinns, and the guy's name is possibly John or Jacques Pierre -- all we need to go a few steps further is a last name...
I know that voice technology probably is not held to high standards, but that is INTERESTING..
Truth Sleuth 10-14-2013, 10:12 PM That is just eerie.
This case has always bothered me. It just doesn't seem right that no one ever reported those people missing or tried to find them. I know the Doe Network and the other organizations are full of people who apparently no one ever tried to find, but it's just disturbing.
johnnyangel 10-15-2013, 09:40 AM The whole case has intrigued me for about 15 years, I get the feeling this all hinges on a "hang-nail" (pun) and is just waiting to be solved.
A part of me would be so happy for those graves to be exhumed in SC and the people re-buried where their family wants them, with their REAL NAMES on their stones. Or, have them stay there even - just with different grave markers.
I want to get involved somehow but don't exactly know how... I emailed the SUmter county pd about the supposed DNA results and what they were - no replies yet.
That is just eerie.

Agreed. And like the aforementioned Baby Hope case, it's one of those 'signature' cases that has stood out to me as well. Would love to hear some new developments on what happened in this case.

I agree. I lurk a lot on Websleuths and was glad they have an entire subforum dedicated to this couple. I've found many articles on this case and am happy to see people in the community where the couple is buried still put flowers on their graves and think of them.
You would think that someone would recognize the jewelry they wore or the composites...I think it's totally possible that they were from another country.
Truth Sleuth 10-15-2013, 11:04 PM Don't they usually put warnings up before displaying postmortem and/or autopsy photos? That was a little unsettling to see those.

I try to join websleuths but no matter what email address I put it, it states I can't use it for some reason...
Also again the jewelry had initials in the mans ring. JPF, or something. We think the first two initials stood for John-Pierre, or Jacques=Pierre. However, if the other claim is true about them POSSIBLY being the McMinn's, than the ghost-voice results and the ring initials won't matter.
Nobody has replied back to me about the DNA results...

That seems to happen quite a bit with this case in particular. I think it's because the autopsy photos, unlike some other cases, seem to be widely disseminated on the web. Thankfully most folks around here have the common courtesy to put in those aforementioned warnings, but not so much elsewhere. :/
johnnyangel 10-17-2013, 07:03 PM Just want everybody to know I posted some info about this case to Kim Russo. Whatever skills she has, whether you believe it or not, are out of this world (no pun intended) - she has helped many people with stunning accuracy...I wonder if she could get even SOME answers for these two souls...
Here is her facebook page if anybody wants to check out/support my post or just her page in general!

I am going to go and support it. If anything, I am curious about what she would have to say about it.
I keep coming back to the jewelry. I don't know why. But the rings....there is something about those rings, especially the rings the young lady was wearing.
I really hope something comes of this. It's wonderful to know that after all this time, these unidentified people (and many others like them) have not been forgotten. It's that kind of dedication that leads to these cases getting solved even decades later.

Kim Russo replied - this was her post:
Psychic Medium Kim Russo "The Happy Medium":
Johnny - Write to the network regarding this. I have no say regarding the ideas they come up with. Thanks for writing and quite possibly the network would want to hear your suggestions.
Anybody want to join me in putting together some kind of signatures and short emails from everybody to give to the network? Any other ideas?

Yeah, WS tends to put up warnings but sometimes they sneak up! I try to avoid any photographs like that, which limits a lot of the sleuthing I can do on this case. You also have to careful on video websites (such as YT) because if you watch something about a crime, often the thumbnail for the related video will be very graphic. I was watching something about the Black Dahlia yesterday and one of the related videos was a horrible closeup shot of her mutiliated body. I've seen a couple of photos of the John and Jane Doe from Sumter County and it was just awful to see. Those poor people. Coming up on 40 years. :(

I am also very sensitive to these kinds of photos. For this particular case, I understand why it is necessary to disseminate the photos widely. I wish that everyone would provide a warning, though.
I was disgusted to go on a website (I won't name it, I don't want to give them any traffic) the other day that posted a crime scene photo of Karla Homolka's sister. Extremely tasteless, wrong, and bordering on re-victimizing that poor young woman and her family. In that case, there is absolutely no reason for the photo to be viewed by anyone unrelated to the case. Just sick. :(

I am not too surprised because in many large cities if you walk into the Police dapartment to report an adult as missing the response is usually sluggish at best and most of the time they are nonchalant - so if this couple was from a place were missing persons cases of adults arent taken too seriously its very possible that thier families tried to report them as missing but the police didnt open a case hence the link is not there ........ there are sadly many such cases , unless someone is seen being dragged into a vehicle kicking and screaming Police response tends to be lacklustre ....
Another possibility is that they left home under not too happy circumstances hence their families dont care and no one ever tried to find them .....
its also possible that the couple left home intending to travel as they did and their families simply didnt file a missing persons report after not hearing from them , I know one particular case were a young woman left home home to travel across the country in the 80s and her family didnt report her as missing for 19 years and when they did a connection was made immediately but yet over the years she had been sadly buried as a Jane Doe .......
