The Golden Palace is an American sitcom that originally aired on CBS during the 1992-1993 season. The show was a spin-off of the sitcom The Golden Girls. The series featured three of the four characters from The Golden Girls operating an upscale hotel called The Golden Palace. The show was not as popular as its predecessor, perhaps due to the absence of Beatrice Arthur as a regular cast member as well as a move to the Friday night death slot. Arthur did make two guest appearances, as did others from the original show. Twenty-four episodes of the series are known to have been taped. New characters included Don Cheadle as the hotel's manager Roland Wilson and Cheech Marin as Chuy Castillos, the chef.

Personally, I thought it was an interesting and creative way of giving us more precious time with three out of our four Golden Girls. It was also fun to see them in a brand new, very different setting, and with two enjoyable new characters played by Don Cheadle and Cheech Marin.

Do I wish Bea Arthur was in it too? Absolutely. But her absence didn't mean I didn't enjoy that year.

Honestly, The Golden Girls probably wouldn't have taken off without Bea Arthur. She simply put, had the most presence and star power. Dorothy was also the most complex, the most flawed, and the most human of all the characters. On The Golden Palace, it with all due respect, was in a sense, like watching three second-bananas trying to carry a series.
