Phyllis is an American television sitcom and the second spin-off of The Mary Tyler Moore Show (the first being Rhoda) created by Ed Weinberger and Stan Daniels. The show starred Cloris Leachman as Phyllis Lindstrom, who was previously Mary Richards' landlady on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. In the new series, Phyllis and her daughter Bess Lindstrom moved from Minneapolis to San Francisco, after the death of her husband, Dr. Lars Lindstrom. It was revealed that San Francisco was Phyllis' and Lars' original hometown, prior to their moving to Minneapolis, and that his mother and stepfather still resided there. Phyllis aired on CBS Mondays at 8:30 pm and ran from September 11, 1975 to March 13, 1977.

This is a hard one to determined. I don't think the show was ever great but it did have funny moments. Mother Dexter was a complete scene stealer. I don't think the premise was all that great though.

Yeah, it maintained kind of a 'lukewarm" level of humor throughout. I liked the fact that this was a sitcom with mostly older characters, but when you have a lead that is as, ahem, difficult to warm to, as Phyllis was, you're in for an uphill battle.

Never boned.

(Other) When the original Julie (Barbara Colby) was murdered after only 2 or 3 episodes, and they replaced her with Liz Torres.

Funny though, isn't it: Season One of PHYLLIS had much higher ratings than TMTMS or RHODA.

I think when PHYLLIS finally hits DVD (whenever that happens) some of you may be surprised at how really funny many of the episodes are.

Phyllis Lindstrom was far better as a supporting character than as a lead. She should have stayed in Minneapolis as Mary's landlord!
