Fox Series "Us & Them" Takes Early Hiatus
by NELLIE ANDREEVA
Friday October 4, 2013

I’ve learned that midseason Fox comedy series "Us & Them" is taking an early break. The romantic comedy, which is six episodes into its 13-episode order, was scheduled to film two more episodes before a built-in hiatus. Instead, a decision was just made to move up the hiatus starting today.

The hourlong break is expected to be used for working on scripts as I hear Fox brass have had issues with some of the content. For now, the plan is to resume production in a week though Fox executives will likely wait to see how the Tuesday comedy block performs next week before making a final decision.

It’s been a rough start for the network’s comedies, with none able to break a two 18-49 rating this week, and freshmen "Dads" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and sophomore "The Mindy Project" at a 1.5 or below in Live+Same Day.

In addition to "Us & Them", Fox has new comedy "Surviving Jack" on tap for midseason and just gave a series order to "Mulaney".

Fox Cuts Back Order for "Us & Them"
by NELLIE ANDREEVA
Friday October 11, 2013

The weeklong early hiatus for midseason Fox comedy series "Us & Them" is becoming permanent. I’ve learned that the network has opted not to do more than the six episodes already in the can (plus the pilot).

For now, Fox says it plans to air the produced episodes and has not cancelled the series, but for all intents and purposes, the show is over, and the cast has been told they can take new jobs.

"Us & Them", which had 13-episode order, last week moved up a planned hiatus by two weeks to work on scripts. I had heard that Fox brass have had concerns about the tone of the series, which by definition — being a romantic comedy — is softer than the network’s other new comedies, like "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Dads", which are edgier.

Fox, whose Tuesday comedy block has struggled this fall, has enough half-hour backup for midseason. In addition to "Us & Them", Fox has new comedies "Surviving Jack" and "Enlisted" and just gave a series order to "Mulaney".

that's too bad - getting cancelled before it even airs or gets a chance to retool at all.

the original show, Gavin And Stacey, was a "romantic comedy", but it didn't overwhelm you with the mushy, overly melodramatic tone that Hollywood seems to think is necessary to be a "romantic comedy". Gavin and Stacey was a comedy first; with wacky characters, good stories and a central couple that was fun to watch and you wanted to root for them - even when they were being painfully stupid about just making things work between the two of them.

"Us & Them" Update: 6 Produced Episodes of Fox’s Jason Ritter-Alexis Bledel Comedy Will Never Air
by Michael Ausiello
June 9, 2014

"Us & Them" is officially gone and forgotten, at least as far as Fox is concerned.

A network insider confirms to TVLine that the six produced episodes of the Jason Ritter-Alexis Bledel romantic comedy will not air this summer after all. In fact, they will never air (not on Fox, anyway).

As TVLine was first to report back in October, Fox — unhappy with the quality of scripts as they were coming in — trimmed the show’s episode order from 13 to six. The (now-scuttled) plan was to burn off the episodes at a later date.

"Us & Them" was a single-camera adaptation of the British series "Gavin & Stacey", in which two very different people try to make a long-distance relationship work.
