The show was set in Chicago, Illinois and centered around the antics of two fun-loving and mischievous teenagers, Kenan Rockmore (Thompson) and Kel Kimble (Mitchell). Kenan is a high school student with a job at a local grocery store, while Kel is his clumsy, orange soda loving best friend. Introduced to the show in 1998 were Sharla and Marc, both of whom had their own quirky characteristics.

I have to agree with everyone else.
Kenan and Kel was pretty consistent. The addition of Sharla and Marc in the later episodes was an improvement if anything (it added more depth to Kenan and Kel's characters).
The only thing that I don't like about the show is the fact that Nickelodeon moved its production from Orlando to California.

Other Thoughts:
This is a funny show. Kenan and Kel are the latter-day Laurel and Hardy.
The 1st episode. It is so unoriginal, is so predictable, and everything looks phony; for example, a kid falls off a roof and you know its a dummy. This show shoulda been pulled 3 minutes in to the episode.
I loved this show. That show made me laugh more that All That did, even though you can tell they use dummies.
Kenan's little sister made the show funny. When she just suddenly disappeared, it screwed the show up. They should've left her on!
It's Keenan and in your vicinity! This show kicks ass! Who's putting the crack in Kel's orange soda?
This show jumped the shark when it first came on. Kenan and Kel are two wannabe comedians who snatched up All That with "Good Burger" and "Superdude" and got their own show. . .which always has Kenan trying to do something stupid, and Kel makes it even worse as he yells and screams to "fix" the situation. Nickelodeon used to be decent, I used to MEMORIZE the schedule. I don't even know when a "Nicktoon Summer Splash" or "Rugrats" marathon is on or when Kenan and Kel is playing and I have to run for the remote to change the channel before my brain cells ar obliterated. MY POINT: Kenan and Kel is the worst TV show in Nickelodeon history.
What are you talking about? Yeah, the show is a classic, but the sister was NEVER funny, more like annoying. Everyone but Kenan and Kel are pretty much there as scenery, c'mon look at the parents...what acting school did they go to? Kel is great with his dancing and his orange soda, and Kenan is perfect as the straight man with his schemes and his 'WHHYYY?'...I mean it's a dumb show, something you watch when you don't want to think too much, winding down. I love it.
The show never jumped the shark but there are some bad episodes when Ron Harper slipped on a puddle of orange soda (that Kel spilled) and injured his knee, it caused Kenan & Kel to be blamed in front of all stupid people, one of the guys threw a brick on a window in the kitchen and everybody was talking about what they did to him. It was shocking as hell!
The show jumped on there 1998 season. They introduced Marc Cram & Sharla to the cast. On that episode The Crams moved in next door to the Rockmores where they joined in for family but Marc used his spelling words by saying like "I'm so H-A-P-P-Y" and "I am so A-N-G-R-Y" Talk about A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G. Then on the other episode Kenan became lazy and he wanted to go to Comic Book Convention but he wanted a break so Chris hired Sharla a non-respect kind of girl that gets it all. Then Kel becomes stupid (ala Kelly Bundy)when Kenan told him to watch the cash register so the thief won't catch it but a old lady drop in, went to the cash register, and stole the money and Kel didn't even stop her, he just wave her goodbye. What a terrible year that has happen.
This show never did jumped the shark except for some episodes that you get upset on. But this show has many hillarious scenes like when Kenan & Kel went to the Sears Tower for Kenan's love interest Brianna just by climbing all the way to the top of the stairs. Also when they were on the window ledges Kenan put the sign "Kenan Loves Brianna" but then Kel push the button and tears up the sign and it said "Kenan Loves Brian". That was a classic to remember for. It was also hillarious when Kenan save the president (a guy personating Bill Clinton)from a whole stack cans of Orange Soda, Kenan ends up in the hospital where you saw a clip of MTV News with Kurt Loder on the TV. It bring the best of them after All That but this is way better than all the bad shows(namely Spongebob)on Nickelodeon. These kids don't know what are they are missing.
On its last episode, Kenan & Kel got mad at each other cause Kel didn't want to do it so everybody told them about what they do back then they show clips from the earlier and later episodes and it was hillarious to see that and went things went settled they got back together again. It was okay for the ending of the show for the last words AW! HERE IT GOES!.
The Graduation episode on Kenan & Kel was definely a worst one. They were planning for a prank to used a whole bunch of Chocolate Pudding for someone else. But all of a sudden, it went on the Principal who is a woman. After that happen, she became a stupid b*** when she expelled Kenan from high school during the Graduation. It was the worst episode of the 1999 season. I that's when the shark came out of sea to bite.
Kim Fields (The Facts of Life and Living Single and also directed Kenan & Kel) plays a Sub. Teacher in which Kel thinks she in love with Kenan was the most hillarious episode I have ever seen especially when In Kenan Dream, He was tango-dancing with her at then went he woke up he said "Squeeze Me" when Kel was there. I laughed so hard on that one.
When Kenan got his head stuck in the fence as Kel trying to let him grabbed his yo-yo. It went downhill from there. Kel try to get him out of there so he went the other side where it was open and grabbed his yo-yo while Kenan was stuck. What was Kel thinking? in fact he should have done that just when they hurry up for the movie for these ugly bi**ches who didn't want to be late. Now that went out for sure.
Sorry, gotta give day one to this sucker. Any Nickelodeon sketch show that exists post-1996, IMHO, has to live under the shadows of "Roundhouse" for all time. I saw a couple of episodes and did not like them. This duo does not even know the meaning of physical comedy. Take pointers from the duo who did it BEST: Laverne and Shirley.
Sometimes it was really stupid. It's not a show you can watch regularly otherwise you come away feeling disgusted. But if u stop like i did and only watch on occasion u laugh cos its so dumb. I can't belive no one has mentioned the tuna episode. "I put the screw in the tuna" Kel makes kenan a tuna sandwhich(or something like that) he drops a screw in there and can't get it out. Kenan chokes on it but Kel is to scared to say anything. Kenan sues the Tuna company, he's just about to walk away with millions of dollars when he says that line. Hilarious
The first two seasons of Kenan & Kel were great until they have Sharla and Marc. They nearly killed the show into pieces. Sharla always wants attention and Marc always become a total wuss. Nuff said.
You know what sucks about this, is the Jump The Shark board on the Kenan & Kel page. These people are so deperate for negative comments just because they just care about anything like lousy shows Nickelodeon has now like Catdog, Rocket Power, Cailin's Way ugh... I can go on for hours. But to that moron who response I don't know if "Nicktoon's Summer Splash" come on is the kind of moron who doesn't know a good show when they have one. But Kenan & Kel is a really good show no doubt about it with Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell as best buddies together as a schemer and an idiot. This is also an All That spinoff but a good spinoff unlike those two duds that were spinoff(The Amanda Show and The Nick Cannon Show for example). But it had really funny episodes from "Dial O for Oops" to "A Star is Peeved" I can laughed for hours. Come on people this is a classic along with the other classics Nickelodeon has with Salute Your Shorts, The Adventures of Pete & Pete, Roundhouse, You Can't Do That On Television and of course The Original All That and you can tell this show Never Jumped The Shark cause it never did and I love it.
Kenan & Kel is the kind of show that never jumped the shark. It had stupid-humor but its the kind of humor that has in any Nickelodeon show. Plus, it has slapstick as the show comes around in fact I always love that episode where Kel hangs around at Kenan's House and annoyed Kenan's father Roger by doing crazy things as he runs up getting all the pain. It was hilarious, I even love that pilot episode where Kenan was planning a buying a new car so he can drive Kel to many places he wants. He finally has one but it turned out to be stolen by that guy who turned out to be a crook. It's the kind of show where you can catch a laugh at every time. I always love the show and it definitely make me laugh so hard!
Kenan & Kel never did, it was one of the best All That spin-offs ever made. As for the first episode, Kel didn't really make Kenan's sandwich but he did accidentally dropped a screw on what it was suppose to be Kel's sandwich when he made it. Also, when Kenan and Kel were at court together, Kel took the stand and he admits that he "dropped the screw in the Tuna" as it really said in the show. Of course that's all I know. It really was a good show.
Although Kenan and Kel were OKish actors, the rest of the cast sucked big time. The little sister was the worst actress I have ever seen and the parents were an abomination - who told them they could act?! Kel is obviously very talented and has the capacity to be funny but the actual show itself had very little humor and no good storylines, and his character was annoying. Kenan can also be quite funny, but the show made them come across as wannabes when in reality they were possibly quite talented. Even when I was a young girl I found the humor to be insultingly immature - who was the show aimed at, brainless 3 year olds?
When the episode was aired that Kenan was making a tuna sandwich and when he took a bite he choked on a screw.. it all went to court and it Kel eventually admitted putting the screw in the tuna
Kenan & Kel definitely jumped with the 1998 season, it was when the series was moved from Nickelodeon Studios (RIP) in Orlando, FL to Nickelodeon On Sunset in Hollywood, CA. Not to mention, Dick...err Nick Cannon became one of the writers of this series and turn it into a complete disaster! I even noticed that Kenan literally grew his spaghetti-hair really flat. Also, what was Kim Fields Freeman thinking when she brought her cousin Alexis Fields to the show? She adds nothing to the show (Remember when she joins the cast of Roc?). Plus, she absolutely has no chemistry with Kenan whatsoever. Plus, Biagio Messina was so annoying as Marc. He looks like John Legizamo posing as a computer geek, and he's definely not a very good sidekick with Kenan & Kel. Heck, even Kenan's sister Kyra (Vanessa Baden) hasn't shown up during that season, (Did she left the show?) and Kel seems to be getting dumber and dumber each week (He was hilarious in the first two seasons, but simply became a complete jackass after that). Then, came the 1999 season, which truly went downhill afterwards. And don't give me started on the special guests (Bill Bellamy, Britney Spears, Tamia.etc), they totally ruined the show for me.
I, for one, use this show as a prime example of why I miss the 90's. This is, quite possibly, the only show that I can clearly remember from my childhood. I love Kenan and Kel, and wish they were still doing things like this today. The only problem was the 1998 season (although I still remember enjoying the Britney Spears episode, simply because, back then, I was your typical 7-year-old with no original music tastes). With the fall of Nickolodeon Studios came the fall of Nickolodeon, in my opinion. Yes, I am 15 now, that is true, so naturally I dont watch Nick anymore. If the 90's shows were still on, however, I would still be watching Nickolodeon religiously, despite my age. Nowadays, Nickoldeon focuses more on cartoons than any other type of show, usually childrens cartoons. It saddens me that a network which used to be the only TV channel I watched is now a channel I simply refuse to watch. If only they would have continued to make shows like Kenan and Kel, Rocko's Modern Life, All That (not counting the sorry excuse for All That! that is currently on Nickelodeon), and other classic Nickelodeon shows. It quite saddens me.
