Wouldn't you have to have credibility in the first place in order to lose it?? ;)

....it's about the amount of "in-house" promotion Jimmy does on behalf of ABC/Disney (his corporate "parent"). And these days, it often gets in the way of "genuine entertainment" he's supposed to be offering. Did anyone really ask for a "Modern Family Feud" segment, featuring cast members of that series? Did Jimmy HAVE to dress up as "Snow White" for the Halloween show?
No wonder he griped a few years ago that he was being paid in "Disney dollars"....

Jimmy Kimmel may not be perfect, but he definitely has the better show out there relative to the competition.

Personally, I just dislike the format, since Johnny and Ed went to the great cocktail lounge in the sky.

Here are all these shows in a nutshell.....

1. The host comes out and does "topical humor" usually political in nature, or just what is going on in the news. Probably now, Trump and Josh Duggar are being made fun of. The President is always fodder.

2. The host has his patented silly stuff they do. This is actually the best part. Letterman had his Top 10, Leno did news of the weird and typo bloopers from the paper, Carson used to do Carnac and some other (funny) but goofy characters.

3. Usually a celebrity is the guest, plugging some movie, or book or something.

Same crap every night and there are what, six of these shows? Jimmy Kimmel has always come across to me as a frat boy who never grew up. I do know on occasion that he lets the guests "party" a bit on stage, but Johnny, Ed and Doc were Old School guys who did the same thing.

I guess these shows make the networks money or they would not be on, but who in the hell stays up to 12:30 on a Tuesday morning to watch James Cordon or Seth Myers, who are basically doing the same show as the show they followed? Not that people have to watch it at 12:30 AM anymore, but why? These shows bore me silly.

I never thought Leno was good. I loved Johnny Carson and to me, Leno ruined the show. I remember being bored and and turning off his very first show. He was a good guest host and it seemed logical to give him the show but he changed the show when he took it over and it wasn't funny. He wasn't funny. Anything that was funny on the show he stole from Letterman or Howard Stern. I went to Letterman and never went back.

Leno didn't do a great show either but he's right about Kimmel. That Halloween candy bit is insanely stupid. Kimmel has a hard edge and it's in the wrong direction. And he talks too much about sappy reality shows. I've given up on his show.

Late night shows are very weak now. One problem is the hosts and the other is the celebrities are much worse than they were years ago. My guess is that Colbert will be better. I hope they are lots of different Carson reruns on Antenna TV. If they have lots of shows from those last twenty years it should do well. And Colbert and Carson should be better to watch than what's on now.
