Last Man Standing is an American television sitcom starring Tim Allen and Nancy Travis that currently airs on ABC. The series premiered on October 11, 2011. This is the second sitcom Allen starred on for ABC, the first being Home Improvement, which ran from 1991 to 1999.

When they decided they wanted the show to be like AITF.
Yeah, I think that it's just about a no brainer that the show jumped the shark/boned the fish when Tim Allen decided for the second season, he wanted to be the modern day Archie Bunker and they replaced Alexandra Krosney w/ Amanda Fuller as his eldest daughter.

Like Tim had any better options at this point:rolleyes::

Tim Allen's career had been made up of many critically bashed films that pretty much turned him into a walking joke. However, he still kept getting lead roles until Wild Hogs which, despite being a financial success, seems to have been the straw that broke the camel's back as the only mainstream role he's gotten since then is reprising his role as Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 3. Other than that, he's pretty much been doing independent films and also went back to TV in Last Man Standing.
Skywalker 10-19-2013, 03:31 PM It hasn't boned yet, IMO. As long as they don't replace Molly Ephraim. I never cared about the original older daughter anyway. Not a great show, but it's a good family show in an era where there aren't too many. Similar to Home Improvement except for the politics which I have no problem with because it doesn't overtake the show.
irehtman 01-07-2014, 04:52 PM Tim has to continue appearing in movies while appearing in this show.
They still have to replace Molly and Kaitlyn with better actresses. Molly is too dramatic and Kaitlyn is too rude and acting like Alexandra.

What is really annoying is that the original concept, while not ground breaking, kind of worked as a simple family based sitcom. I mean the whole concept of Mike being the "Last Man Standing" in a house with a wife and three almost grown up daughters with very different personalities who he can't relate to (especially since he spent most of their years as kids away from home) was a hell of a lot more interesting than the Mike vs. Ryan show (with Boyd). Plus if all of the conflicts are him vs Ryan the "last man standing" title doesn't even work.

Right now its the: "Mike's political views vs. Ryan's hippy crap." show for Last Man Standing. The reduction of Kyle and Ed's roles and the increase of Ryan and Boyd has just not been a good mix for the IMHO. The last few episodes outside Eve getting beat up by a high school student (still irks me how that was handled) have been about Ryan and Boyd with Kristin thrown in the mix. Ryan comes up with some idiotic idea that Boyd has to do or something happens with Boyd that Ryan over reacts to. Kristin shrugs her shoulders and never does the logical choice. Wash, rinse, repeat.

We also still have to find new actresses to replace both Molly and Kaitlyn because Molly is too dramatic and Kaitlyn is acting rude just like Alexandra. None of these girls are funny at all, no offense!

I finally saw two episodes of "Last Man Standing" just recently- it was fun seeing Tim Allen and Jonathan Taylor Thomas working together again in one of the episodes.:) (Nice not-so-subtle reference to their roles as father and son on "Home Improvement" too. )
I don't know that the show is exactly like "Home Improvement" though- for one, I like "Home Improvement" a lot better. But this show isn't too bad. I can see some similarities, but that comes with typecasting- it certainly isn't the first time this has happened. And when it does happen, it's funny because you wind up with a similar kind of show, with the producers hoping it will draw people in again and make the same kind of money of course- when what people probably really wanted was just more seasons of the original show that the new one is ripping off.
(A good example of this is "The Cosby Show" and "Cosby"- I know they were different characters in each series, but "Cosby" always felt like Cliff and Clair Huxtable's retirement years to me. )
I can also see the comparisons between "Last Man Standing" and "All in the Family"- I'm definitely picking up on that.
Even so, it's not too bad of a show overall. It's interesting to see a modernized version of that formula.

So? A lot of actors/actresses star in movies and tv shows simultaneously.
bencasey 03-03-2014, 01:58 AM Good first season but now just a bad AITF ripoff.

JO Sweet Heart 03-09-2014, 02:04 PM To me, there has never been anything that stands out about that woman who plays the wife on this show.
God bless you and her always!!! :) :) :)

king of comedy 03-22-2014, 08:03 AM I enjoyed his work in the Toy Story movies.

Tim doesn't have to do anything.

Tim has to still appear in current movies besides appearing in this show at the same time, what are you talking about?!

Tim can do what ever he wants, if he wants to appear in current movies, he can, if he doesn't want to appear in current movies he doesn't have to. Not really that hard.
irehtman 03-31-2014, 05:09 PM Tim should be appearing a new current movie right now in the meantime.

I'm saying whatever he decides to do is totally up to him.
irehtman 03-31-2014, 05:39 PM I don't like the way Tim is doing right now.
irehtman 04-02-2014, 08:10 PM Tim is doing well in the movies, but going back to the TV series is a extremely stupid move.
If he appears in this current TV series, then he still has to continue appearing in the movies at the same time.
Tim going backwards to appear in current TV series and not appearing in new movies at the same time is another reason why this show boned the fish, no offense.
Since season 2, all the characters went down hill. Vanessa, the most and then recasting Kristin, Boyd and Ryan to bring "the drama" and Tim Allen's political views. Why is Vanessa such a caricature? Vanessa has gone from intelligent to funny to: "I have to keep showing our neighbors that I like black people." It's like the writers intentionally write her as the biggest mess possible, just so that Mike, even with his borderline racist views, will still come off better next to her. I mean what happen to the smart but wise mother who was just a little out of touch with current trends. Now she is: "I don't know. I'm not a doctor." All of these characters have lost intelligence just to make the stories or political soap boxes work.
irehtman 04-16-2015, 05:20 PM Well right now, Tim is about to film new movies. I don't understand why it is taking too long for him to earn more money between gaps?
