Bewitched is an American situation comedy originally broadcast for eight seasons on ABC from 1964 to 1972. The show starred Elizabeth Montgomery, Dick York (1964-1969), Dick Sargent (1969-1972), Agnes Moorehead and David White. It continues to be seen throughout the world in syndication and it is the longest running supernatural themed sitcom of the 1960s-1970s. The show continues to have a cult following today.

For me it was the "Darren switch". I never though Dick Sargent had the same kind of on screen chemistry with Elizabeth Montgomery that Dick York did.

I tolerated the different Louise, Gladys, and even Frank Stephens (Darrin's dad) but DARRIN?!?!?! The mortal man she married and one of the major characters of the TV series.

I'm one of the few that actually liked Dick Sargent. The sixth season I though was really good, and there are some good moments in season seven. The last season is when it went downhil. They obviously were out of ideas and starting redoing episodes from season one and two. They probably should have packed it in after season seven.

Then we the viewers would miss out on Miss Liz "70's MOD fashion plate extravaganza" with the designer purse, knee high socks, tighter tops, mini-skirts, chokers, and long straight hair with the side part plus the eye-rolling and "rather be doing a quickie TV-movie than a weekly sitcom" attitude. :crazy:

Absolutely! We had seen Liz occasionally in miniskirts before as Serena, and her hair was pretty long in Dick York's final season (though not stick-straight) -- but the fashions you describe in the late eps made for what's now a nice time-capsule.

When Dick York left the show. They had more than enough episodes for syndication, they should have just called it quits after Season 5. As beautiful as Elizabeth Montgomery was, the show just wasn't good anymore.

The show boned twice IMO. First when Marion Lorne passed and second when Dick York left. (That's why I only have the first five seasons)

Recycling. It started prior to season 7 though--Dick Sargent's very first episode was a recycle of a York episode. Not an auspicious beginning. Hardcore fans should be grateful it was allowed to drag on for three more seasons rather than try to sell us the Yugo of ABC wanting a ninth season. That doesn't square with common sense--or Wm Asher's own recorded recollection of that time.

I think it suffered a huge blow when York was replaced, but it still COULD have been somewhat OK, had they not done the 'recycled plots' thing. What was the point of that, exactly? Had they completely run out of ideas after six years?

I wish I could change my vote; it really did 'bone' when York left, in that it was never again the same show. Still watchable, but never as good.

I enjoy the Salem story arc. If they quit when York left, we wouldn't have that. Also it was cool that it was "on location".

I think perhaps if they could have combined the best episodes from Seasons 6, 7 and 8 into one season the show would stand even stronger today without all the remakes. One of these days I may make a list of the 30 best Dick Sargent episodes just for fun.

Bewitched boned the fish in season 8, with no appearances from Uncle Arthur, The Kravitz's or Mr. & Mrs. Stephens!
