View Full Version : Inconsistencies
topayVT 02-23-2002, 05:57 PM First, I am a big fan of Family Matters. I try to watch it on WB50 (Washington, DC). Currently they're on the 8th Season (the end of the Paris trip was on Friday the 22nd).
I was wondering, there were a few contradicting moments on the show. I'm sure you know what I mean. If you can think of any, please feel free to post.
1. Judy, Rachel, and Waldo disappeared without notice
2. Harriette was played by a different actress in the final few episodes.
3. Steve, obviously in Laura's grade, was in Eddie's class to help him cheat on a test.
Truth 02-24-2002, 05:38 AM In the final season they did say that Waldo went to a cooking school in New York, So i don't think that really counts as a contradicting moment or whatever.
go to jumptheshark.com and find Family Matters page. there are a lot of those things there.
ClesStahn 03-19-2002, 06:59 PM Rachel disappeared a long time ago, didn't she? There was a topic about it.. I don't know if it's still here...

Steve was also in Eddie's Math Class in an epidoe from Season 4 when Eddie hung up that poster with the girl in the bathing suit. I always wondered about this too, just poor continuity I guess.

Well, being the genius that Steve is, I think we can assume that he was able to skip a few grade levels in certain courses.

Yeah, there were TONS of inconsistencies throughout Family Matters' run.
jumptheshark.com probably has them all.
Days Go By 12-24-2004, 02:55 PM Steve was prolly in Eddie's classes 'cos he was really smart, meaning, he took advanced classes.
The IRS episode when Carl says that Rachel lives with them. That was a blunder. I thought at that point she did not live with them. She was totally gone (not even mentioned) in the 5th, 7th and 8th seasons not even in the Christmas episode. Bizarre
Vegas Girl 01-07-2005, 09:16 PM One time Harriett mentioned that she had been at her job for (something like) 15 years when actually she just got the job a year or so prior.
In one of the early seasons, Carl wanted Eddie to become a police officer.
When he finally wanted to in the 8th or 9th season, Carl was trying to discourage him.

because eddie was young then. so i guess carl didnt think he was serious. In the episode when was serious about it in the 8th season, eddie was going to drop out of college. so of course carl wouldnt like it, didnt really discourage him just basically said "are u truly serious about this" or whatever. so then he was happy that be would become a cop.
SimpsonsFan 02-27-2005, 02:39 PM After Rachel mysteriously left, didn't she come back in one episode about a year or so later, and didn't they mention her in a Christmas episode later on?
"After Rachel mysteriously left, didn't she come back in one episode about a year or so later, and didn't they mention her in a Christmas episode later on?"
My reply: Okay here goes the Rachel timeline
Rachel disappeared in season 5, like Judy she was not mentioned at all not even by her own son Richie like she never existed, she was not even in the Christmas episode. In season 6, she appeared for six episodes, and there was no mention of where she was in the previous season she just appeared. Season 7 she was gone again but in the IRS episode Carl states that Rachel lives with them, which is strange because for the rest of the season she is not seen or reffered to by anybody. Same thing with season 8, not seen or mentioned. Finally in season 9 Christmas episode Harriette tells Richie that Aunt Helen (from Detroit) was feeling better and Rachel is coming for Christmas, but then she could not come because of the blizzard so Eddie picks her up and Rachel surprises Richie. And that was Rachel's last appearance.
SimpsonsFan 05-05-2005, 11:01 AM I thought she only appeared in 4 eps of season 6?
I thought she only appeared in 4 eps of season 6?
It was six episodes
1. The one where Richie used Carl's credit card to buy toys.
2. The Halloween episode
3. The Christmas episode
4. The one where Rachel tries to return a dress and it was torn and her and Harriette argue.
5. The Disney World episode pt. 1
6. Disney World episode pt. 2

You're right, it's just that ABCFamily doesn't show holiday eps in the exact order for some reason. I hope I get to see those eps soon.
hughpuppies 05-09-2005, 04:08 AM Well, being the genius that Steve is, I think we can assume that he was able to skip a few grade levels in certain courses.
In most high schools, you do not have to take advance classes in a certain grade. Eddie might have taken a few regular math classes before taken algebra and geomatry.
So Eddie could have waited a few years to take advance math classes, by that time Steve who is smart finally caught up to Eddie in the advance mah classes.
I know alot of people who waited to take algebra until 11th grade and geomarty until 12th grade. While in 9th and 10th they took regular math classes.
So, yes Steve could have been in Eddies math classes. I was in advance math glasses with people in 10th,11th, and 12th grade when I was in 9th grade same way with 10th, 11th, grades.
School I went to in 8th you could decide if you want pre algebra or regular algebra, most 8th graders took pre algebra, while I took regular algebra in 8th grade, so that gave me classes with people in grades higher than me.
SimpsonsFan 05-10-2005, 10:25 AM That's right, it's very common in high school to see people from different grades in the same classes. In fact, it would have been kind of strange if Steve wasn't in the same class as Eddie because we all know how smart he is.
chipsandsoda 12-28-2005, 07:18 PM Hey everybody. It's my first time on this board for a while. But here are a few inconsistincies nobody has ever mentioned before.
Carl always seemed to be somewhat against drinking Alcohol at all. He really got angry with Eddie in the Season 7 episode when Eddie came home drunk twice, to the point where he kicked Eddie out. There was even an episode a year later when his boss Commishiner Guiess comes over with his wife for Dinner and Carl tells him he doesn't Smoke or Drink. Now in the 9th and Final Season, in the episode when Eddie decides to be a cop. He takes Eddie to a Bar called the Lock Up, and they each drink a Beer.
Another inconsistincy which has to do with Carl is during a first Season episode Carl is reluctant to attend his High School Reunion, because he doesn't want his old friends to see that he has put on weight since High School. But in a Season 3 episode Carl mentions to Steve that he was Fat when he was in High School.

Eddie might not have been 21, most parents wouldn't want anyone under the legal age to drink
The only thing I can think of for the High School thing is he was big in High School but still put on weight after it
chipsandsoda 12-29-2005, 02:47 PM Eddie might not have been 21, most parents wouldn't want anyone under the legal age to drink
Yeah but Carl said in that episode that he didn't need to take a drink to have a good time, and a year later told his boss that he didn't drink when his boss came over for dinner and offered Carl some Liquor. Then in that last season episode when Eddie decides to be a Cop, he takes Eddie to a Bar and they Each and he orders 2 beers, one for him and one for Eddie. Now even though Eddie was 21 in this episode, Carl said that he didn't drink several times before, and not one other time during the shows long run was he seen drinking any Alchohol.
Buffyboy323 12-30-2005, 08:21 PM Rachel Left to take care of her mom, they say it a few times....My guess is that she left her son because she expected to not be away that long, and she probably didn't want to start his life over again.
JulieSomoski 01-02-2006, 01:08 PM Yes she went to take care of her mom, because in the last season Christmas episode I think it was Rachel says she thinks her mom is well enough and can come for Christmas or something along those lines. So She never really left the show. Season 5 was her last season as a regular, and in season 6 she was in 6 episodes as a recurring character, and then only in I think 2 or 3 episodes the last 3 seasons.
The reason for her leaving was in season 6 she signed a contract to do her own show, so she left Family Matters for her own show. But she tried to still be a recurring character in Family Matters as many times as she could. I think her show soon got cancelled, and by that time her character on Family Matters was basically written out.
As for Judy, her last season was season 4. She was just written out because in the 4 seasons she was there she either wasn't in the episode or only had a few lines to say. I don't even think there was an episode revolving around her, was there? They just gave the bigger part always to Laura or Eddie, so she was written out of the entire series and it was like she never existed after that, and she had almost nothing when Steve became a regular, so she was writen out.
Rachel Left to take care of her mom, they say it a few times....My guess is that she left her son because she expected to not be away that long, and she probably didn't want to start his life over again.
I only remember Harriette saying that in season 9, she said Aunt Helen is feeling better and she can be home for Christmas. They never ever mentioned why Rachel left prior to that. If they did, please tell me which episodes.
Buffyboy323 01-05-2006, 01:22 AM LOL. I'm not sure they mentioned it before that christmas episode.
