Moesha is an American sitcom series that aired on the UPN network from January 23, 1996 to May 14, 2001. The series stars R&B singer Brandy Norwood as Moesha Mitchell, a high school student living with her family in Los Angeles.

The cause of this show's discontinuation was actress Mo'Nique Imes-Jackson's strong popularity buildup, unfortunately.

I think you're talking about The Parkers, the spin-off to Moesha.

Exactly and that's why both actress Countess Vaughn James her character Kim Parker was turned down due to Mo'Nique strong popularity.

Whatever Mo'Nique is doing in The Parkers is true in real life of actress Cybill Shepherd, no offense.

Again, what exactly does this have to do w/ when Moesha itself, "boned the fish"? I don't understand the logic in saying that Mo'Nique's strong popularity on another show (regardless of it being a spin-off) helped cause the premature cancelation of Moesha.

Most teenage sitcoms, like Moesha, caused a strong imbalance attracting too many 13-19-year-old fans in one blow and strict old TV critics cannot tolerate that. Mo'Nique popularity should lower down the intensity on the buildup of teenage fans. I thought The Parkers was a teen show, it turns it it is a young adult show, unlike Moesha.

The Parkers cause the premature cancellation of Moesha WITHOUT help, I'm sorry about this.

The Parkers had absolutely NOTHING to do with cancellation of Moesha at all. There was behind the scenes drama on Moesha. There were rifts. Brandy and her mother Sonya fired Vida Spears, the show runner. The show started become more of a dramedy. Brandy and Sheryl Lee Ralph had issues with one another. Sheryl did not renew her contract for season six and did agree to be a recurring character. Brandy apologized to Ms. Ralph for her behavior years later stating that she (Brandy) was young at the time. It was even stated that Brandy had a breakdown on the set.

So, you see there is no proof that "The Parkers" caused the cancellation of Moesha at all.

.

It began to go downhill when they changed the intro entirely in Season 4. As someone else said, it changes from a Sitcom to more of a Dramedy.

The show was finished once Moesha and her friends graduated high school (granted, many shows like this seem to struggle with the transition from high school to college/adulthood).

I refuse to watch the episodes beyond Season 4.

As a matter of fact, any of teenage dramedy shows might cause an imbalance attracting too many 13-year-olds to 19-year-olds in one blow.

Moesha was cancelled because of the dramedy incident. But it got worse when the spinoff The Parkers caused this show's discontinuation due to actress Monique Imes-Jackson's strong talent, IMO.

The dramedy thing I can buy but it had nothing to do with Monique.

It is now because Monique Imes-Jackson guest appeared in three Moesha episodes and her talent became more popular compared to both Brandy's and Countess', no offense.

It's a reason, according to the strict TV critics.

That is when Moesha officially "jumped the shark".

The show already wasn't quite the same but that episode basically ruined the show. Frank was known as one of TV best fathers. He stepped up and took care of his kids after his wife died. No one believe that he would allow his sister to raise his child.

Co-Creator of TV Hit 'Moesha' Fired (http://articles.latimes.com/1999/dec/02)

Television: Vida Spears is ousted, apparently in power struggle with UPN comedy star Brandy.

Vida Spears, a creator of UPN's hit comedy "Moesha" and one of the TV industry's few African American show runners, has been fired from the comedy because of a power struggle with star Brandy and her mother and manager, Sonja Norwood, sources said.

The ousting of Spears, which took place Tuesday, was not wholly unexpected to those working on the series where tensions had been building for weeks over the show's creative direction. Brandy also wanted to be named as an executive producer, which Spears opposed, they said.

Spears was managing "Moesha" on her own this season after working with partner Sara V. Finney (now overseeing the "Moesha" spinoff, "The Parkers"). She had resisted plans by the Norwoods and UPN to bring more dramatic and gritty urban elements to the comedy; instead she favored hewing to the show's comedic and more family-oriented roots, said several sources involved with the series.

The popularity of "The Parkers" was particularly galling to the Norwoods because of a feud between Brandy and Vaughn, who had been featured on "Moesha" for the first four seasons as Kim, her boy-crazy best friend, production sources said. The two actresses were seen fighting constantly, and Brandy finally demanded that Vaughn be taken off the show. Because Kim was one of the comedy's most popular characters, producers decided to create a new show involving her.

Hot Topics Thicken Plot for 'Moesha' (http://articles.latimes.com/1999/dec/06): Television: UPN comedy turns to grittier material that veteran staffers call stereotypical.

But as Brandy moves into adulthood, and her character moves into college, UPN, Brandy and her mother felt the show had lost much of its relevance and depth. The concern was that Moesha and her family had become "too perfect," turning the comedy into more of a Saturday-morning version of a black family.

The show's writer/producers were repeatedly pressed to add edgy elements to the show, but the creative forces behind "Moesha" successfully opposed it. So "Moesha" did not include stories of black gangs and guns or sex among young people.

Some shows about teens suffer from what is called the "college curse". Sometimes the producers/writers don't know what to do with the teenage characters once they graduate high school.

if the option was available, i'd choose the moment the character 'q' was introduced.

moesha turning down the saturn also bothered me, but not enough to turn away permanently..
