Other Thoughts:

The characters on Boy Meets World started the 6th grade in the fall of 1993. The fall of 1997 marked the start of their senior year--somehow the numbers don't add up--they should be finishing their sophomore year now -- not going off to college already -- this really pisses me off. This is a crisis, we the American public, are been condescended towards simply by this mindless decision to make Cory and the gang skip grades -- I mean, Mr. Feeny never said any of them were smart- --and they all skipped. This should be solved!
After Cory, Shawn, and Topenga graduated from high school.
Cory and Topanga's relationship became unrealistic. Also, they had they grow up too fast. When the show started, they were in 6th grade. Now they are freshmen in college, yet the show hasn't been on for 7 years.
Boys Meets World early episodes are about a kid growing up. His brother gets chicks, his teacher lives next door, his friend lives in Philadelphia's only trailer park, Topanga is a weird fringe chick. Anywho, all of a sudden, we get that they are in love forever ands were always destined to be together. The made up this BS destiny-romance halfway into the show's run.
After they graduated from high school. Going off has sure made Cory act stupid...
When Cory hit puberty and turned into a dweeb. He was not that bad of an actor when he was young, but it seems that the older he gets, the stupider he becomes.
I watched this show last friday because I was bored, and thought it was a horrible sexist piece of crap. For instance, the kids are in college. They look about 14, and their rooms are decorated like five-year-olds' rooms! Second, that Corey kid is engaged, and he goes to a strip club, and his fiancee doesn't give a damn about it besides "I think we should be honest with each other." Yuck!
Probably within the past year I started noticing that the comedy was slowly creeping away and the 'very special' parts were beginning to dominate the bulk of the show. There are about 4 'couples on that show and each week at least two of them are having troubles at any given time.
What the hell kind of name is "Topenga?"
When the main character (I forget his name) grew up and got with Topenga. The show was cute at the beginning until he grew up. And why is Mr. Pheeny STILL their teacher? It's been like 5 years! Not to mention, he used to hate Topenga and now they're dating. And she's nowhere near as cool as she used to be. She turned into a sterotypical stupid teenage girl. Boy Meets World should have gone off the air years ago.
When everyone got stupid- especially Corey. Also what happened to Topangas older sister? And the whole Shawn and Angela thing has me pissed. "I love you, Shawn." "I love you too, Angela. But we can't be together, because I'm an idiot!!" And I won't even start with the new baby's near death experience. Since when is this show a drama? AND WHAT IS UP WITH MR. FEENY? Can you say favoritism???? He leaves John Adams just to be with his precious three. Maybe he has a thing for Topanga and married the dean to make her jealous. And maybe it worked since topanga is always sending Corey mixed signals. Oh, well.
Topanga changed and Eric went out with her.
When the kid dating the good looking girl hits puberty, its unrealistic after that, no way can he get this girl.
Well, yeah, so this one jumped a long time ago, perhaps when Corey and Topanga first got together. But that was the WORST TV wedding I have EVER seen.
When this show first came on the air, Corey was younger than me. Now he's older than me.
1)when Corey and Topanga keep on saying that they have been together their whole lives when Corey didn't even like her in 6th grade!!!! 2)when they took Minkus off the show 3)When Topanga became normal 4)when Topanga cut her hair 5)when Shawn and Angela broke up 6)when the writers kept on making up stories that never happened 7)when Corey lost his cuteness 8)when Mr.Feeny got married 9)when the characters grew up too fast 10)when the show became too fake. Even though many things have happened on B.M.W that I don't like I will always be a loyal fan.
After they graduated from high school the show totally sucked.
"Hey, my kid brother gets more work than I do" Savage showed up as possibly the world's youngest college professor who sexually harasses Topanga, or something to that effect. This show started off as an above-average family sitcom, but suffered from "TGIF Disease" where all of ABC's Friday night sitcoms end up jumping sooner or later (usually sooner), no matter how well they started off.
Eric Rules!!! I do miss the original Morgan though.
This whole show is totally disgusting. Ben Savage's brillo head inspires nausea, and his acting talent equals that of a mildly ******** toddler. The plots are infantile, the one-liners fall flat and the cast all just look embarassed. The guy who plays Eric thinks he is funny, but succeeds only in making an ass of himself, and guy who plays Savage's best friend is freakishly ugly. Does anyone else think he looks like the Joker with that distored mouth? In addition, the interest Feeney takes in the children is just a tad predatory? Oh, and for the record, Topanga is fat and she couldn't get an oven hot.
When Topanga and Cory got married. It creeps me out how they're supposedly 18 or 19 or whatever and married. And they make sex jokes about this "wacky twosome" as in having Cory and Topanga's bedroom have a mirror on the ceiling, and him going to the doctor and discussing Cory's performance in bed. Coupled with the fact that they both look about 16 or 17, I think this sends the wrong message to kids. Not that there's anything wrong with getting married at a young age, but YUCK! This is a family show!
THIS ON AGAIN AND OFF AGAIN THING BETWEEN CORY AND TOPANGA GOT TO BE QUITE OLD. HOPE THEY STAY MARRIED BUT IT'S GONE IT'S OVER. LET'S ALL GET ON WITH OUR LIVES AND LET THIS SHOW DIE WITH DIGNITY, IF IT'S NOT TOO LATE. OK?
Topenga gains at least 15 pounds between seasons and goes from cute, to not so cute. Plus the show gets more shockvalue/sexual innuendo and loses in the humor department
As soon as they entered college. Eric started acting like a moron, and Cory – like an old man. The whole story line of Eric and Jack fighting over Rachel’s attention was ridiculous. The wedding episode, in my opinion, was the worst episode of the entire series, with the writers stooping down to showing all the men on the show not wearing their pants or having Cory and Shawn fight like some maniacs. Even the series finale could have better, although the last 10 minutes were very touching. I think the series actually started to slide downhill somewhat in the 5th season (their last year of high school), but at least that season was saved by the story lines involving Shawn and Angela’s relationship and Cory-Topanga-Lauren love triangle.
I have to admit to enjoying this show, but I do have a couple of gripes. My main one having to do with Eric. Eric was always supposed to be dim witted, but in the last few seasons he became mildly mentally challenged. I'm surprised he could even function at all in the world. I had stopped watching for a while and then I saw the episode where Topanga runs away and comes back to Philly. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Cory gave this big speech about how he has been in love with her his whole life and that he is lost without her. What? I hate when shows reinvent history. The red head , Rachel, is absolutely useless and annoying. I did like that there was never an episode dealing with the fact that Angela was black. She was just a girl that Shawn happened to fall in love with. I do give Matthew Lawrence credit for being ten times better than his brother. I guess that isn't saying much though.
THE SEASON FINALE WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORST I'VE EVER SEEN. IT WAS LIKE "MAD" MAGAZINE {WHICH RULES, BY THE WAY) WAS PARODYING THE SHOW. TAPANGA WAS TO SURREAL, ANYWAY. WHO EVER HEARD OF AN EDUCATED DITZ. MY GUESS IS THAT IN A YEAR OR TWO, THERE WILL BE A SHOW TITLED "BOY MEETS U.N."
It should have been a "special" show but was just a series of flachbacks and teasers for previous shows. It was not only a disappointment, it was boring. Also they got out of college awfully fast (in one year).
When Cory and Topanga got Married. also, going off to college wasnt good either.
cory got too damn concerned about everything. when cory began to give a damn about the smallest ****. patanga is a hot piece of ass
When Cory and Topenga were younger, they couldn't stand each other. He was the slacker in the classroom while she was the brainiac who looked down on people such as him. For being so earthy, she sure was judgmental. Then all of the sudden in high school they fall hopelessly in love. In a later episode, the writers showed the time that Cory and Topenga were 5 years old and supposedly at the zoo together. This iws where they met Shawn. I thought that Cory and Topenga couldn't stand each other when they were kids?? Why try to make us believe that it was destiny that they would always be together??
When Topanga gets seriously ugly. What a beast! And this guy marries her. He must be too young to realize that she will get much worse as she gets older.
I liked Boy Meets World for a long time. I was a big fan of Cory and Topanga. I watch the shows in re-runs, and they just started a new cycle back at the beginning when they were in sixth grade. I realized that the jokes done then were the same as the ones done at the end of the show's run, and it's a lot easier for a twelve year old to pull off the stupid jokes than a twenty year old. They should have ended at graduation. WITHOUT Topanga proposing...
when cory's parents had another baby
They went to college. When did Cory start sounding like an old Yiddish guy?
When Cory and Topanga got married, the show got kind of confusing and the story lines started to clash.
This show used to be so completely cute. it was never an emmy-type series, but it was funny and refreshing, like Malcolm in the middle is now.... i missed topanga being so odd-- she was so cute, and it was funny. then she turned valley, and gained a whole bunch of weight and became a mean nasty nagging b*itch. cory used to be so funny, then he just became mean at times and stupid at others. eric was dim, but he had the iq of a napkin the last few years. shawn acted so stereotypically gay the last few years. missed seeing the parents all the time-- suddenly they don't have parents! hated how they reinvented history, made things up that never happened. missed the old morgan, and missed minkus and erics friend jason. writing became no better than family matters, with tired old jokes. series finale was so dule, filled an hour with little clips that only depressed us-- not because it was over, but how the show had become so horrible. i used to love this show, and will always be a fan, but i didn't watch the last three years. show started to really go downhill 5th season, 4 was best. missed turner, hated that they didnt at least mention where he disapeared to... beat the whole shawn/father thing to death. how many times are cory and topanga going to have the same argument? marrige was so completly stupid. death of the show completly. didnt care about rachel, or jack, or even angela as much as they tried to make us... it was like bringing in 4 extra people to friends and expecting us to fall in love with them, we dont care about them! really thought show was lost when they graduated h.s. and turner disapears, then shawn has no one to love him and went back to, "poor me, im the trailer park boy" when before he was getting so much from turner. too bad. missed how great this show used to be!! they also used to spend money on trying to get good guest stars, and what was that whole stupid story line with topanga's parents-- her father was originally played by peter tork from the monkeys, then it became michael mckean from lavern and shirley, then all the sudden its some guy who cheats on his wife, as if! c'mon! 3 different sets of parents for topanga because they didnt want to spend the money to keep them. missed tork. hated that they stopped getting good guest stars (remeber the monkees episode with tork and jones and dolenz, how fun was that?! they had fun then) and the show just turned into crap. shoulda ended by the 5th season. how sad.
As they grew up, it just got old and wasn't cute anymore!
Once they went to college, it was all downhill. the whole jack, whats his face (corys bro) and rachel thing was LAME and sean and angela BORING. plus the whole cory and tapanga thing was getting old. that show was on for way too long. And why did Mr. Fini always show up when they needed him? Morgan was a BAD actress. i could go on if u like....
Never jumped. I loved this show and I was so disappointed when it ended. yah there were some messed up things in it like- when eric wanted to adopt that kid. I mean he got all serious when he's posed to be like a really stupid freak which I really like. I will always love this show. I cried a bunch on the series finally. R.I.P. Boy meets world.
I absolutely LOVED this show, so I can't really say it ever jumped. I was completely shocked when it was cancelled! I DO, however, have a bone to pick with Eric's behavior in the last few seasons. He was hysterical in the beginning, but by the end of the series, he was completely NUTS! That didn't go over too well with me. Actually, I'd have to say the moment Boy Meets World jumped was when Jennifer Love Hewitt guest starred on the Halloween episode a few years back. I lose brain cells every time she opens her whiny little mouth on that huge head of hers.
This show jumped the shark when it stopped being funny. The first couple seasons were really funny. Minus, Topenga, Morgan, Eric; they were just funny characters. Then Morgan and Minus disappeared. But some funny episodes were when Minus and Morgan just magically reappeared on the show. That was ingenious.
Am I the only one who sees this? This show got way to serious after like '96! I mean it sadly paved the way for stupid shows like Dawson's Creek and stuff.
There were way too many changes in this show. First off, they got rid of Minkus when he was a really funny character! He came back in the graduation episode, but he was barely in it. Second, Topanga became normal and Cory started dating her, when originally he didn't even like her. Third, they made Eric absolutely stupid! Before, he was just rude and occasionally he would make a dumb comment. But now, he just plain STUPID! He can't say anything meaningful anymore! Fourth, they added Angela and Jack, Shawn's half-brother. They did nothing for the show, and neither did Rachel. Fifth, They kept making sex jokes and in a couple episodes made references to being gay! This used to be a family show! My family used to live upstairs from Betsy Randle when she lived in Illinois. That was the only reason we started watching the show. After finding out that the show was funny, we watched it regularly. But now, I am the only one that watches it! It got too weird for my brothers and parents. Also, I used to love the 1993 theme song. But I can't find it anywhere on the internet! This show also had the strange event of everyone skipping two grades. Many people say, "They just sped up time for purpose of the show." but this is not true. In a 1993 episode, Mr. Feeny asks his students to imagine what job they would have when coming back to school for their 20th reunion. Mr Feeny says: "You are the class of 2000." But, when they graduate, Mr. Feeny says: "I now give you the class of 1998!" Come on! Cory and Shawn got C's, Topanga and Minkus are the only characters I could see skipping two grades. Despite all these changes, I still like the show. But, there are some points where I watch it and think, "Man, this isn't a family show anymore!" or "They wouldn't do something like that in season one." One last thing, why did the guy above me call Topanga "patanga"?
I think we're all in agreement when we say the show's biggest problem was continuity. For example...SEASON 1: Shawn has older sister named Melissa. SEASON 4 or 5: Melissa mysteriously disappears, but cory is very surprised to meet Shawn's half-brother, Jack, not to mention before that, he encountered his "brother" (different actor by the way) in the trailer park. The first brother was a punk gang type, and the second was a nice boy looking for a place to stay. SEASON 1: Topanga has a big sister whom Eric has a crush on. SEASON 2-7: We never see or hear from her again. SEASON 1: Cory despises Topanga and Topanga is weird SEASON 3-7: Cory and Topanga are madly in love with each other, and Topanga is normal, and they suddenly develop this mysterious history of being in love their whole life. SEASON UNKNOWN: The 3 kids somehow skip 2 grades (that would be believable for Topanga, but Cory and Shawn are just average) A few other weird tidbits: -Morgan was grounded for a few years only to be replaced by a different actress? -Topanga ran from Pittsburgh to Philly? -Shawn lives close to the Turnpike? (I happen to live in the Philadelphia area, and I am certain that the Turnpike does not enter Philadelphia's boundary) -What happened to Stuart Minkus? -Mr. Feeny follows them through every grade? -What happened to Turner? -It's pretty obvious that the set used for Tuner's apartment was the same set used for Shawn's, Eric's, and Jack's apartment. There are many more continuity problems-too many to fit on this form. This show took "playing with the format" too far.
When Cory and Topanga got married, it made the show unrealistic. What normal teenage guy is going to be interested in getting involved in a marriage? And Topanga always seemed like a sensible young woman, why would she want to rush into marriage? It doesn't make sense.
I think that once Topanga and Cory were engaged, the show should have ended. I used to watch this show constantly, I had seen every episode. But then, it got old unfunny, and Cory started acting gay. That got annoying. It shouldn't have stayed on as long as it did!
when corey and topanga started dating and getting all smushy.
This show got stupid when they all went to college and even STUPIDER when Topanga and Cory got married and he took her arm and RAN upstairs to go have sex with her. I turned it off for good after that.
I think that this Show jumped from the first episode, but I think that as they went into college, it got WAY better. Eric had more of a comedy role, and i thought that it became a pretty funny show. However, I think that the way they talk about how they had loved each other since they were 3 or whatever was dumb. They were enemies until they were like 13!!! I hope this show stays as good as it has been, and RIDER STRONG IS RALLY HOT!
I don't know the names but that couple that was always making out. Cmon get a room already! at least cory and topanga could control themselves in public! There honeymoon episode was ********!
Topanga became got real fat. Eric acts like he belongs in a mental instution. Shawn dates a black girl and no one mentions anything about it. Cory becomes an annoying nerd.
When Cory and Topenga got married. And when she gained 50 pounds!
When Randy stopped being a mischievous little kid and became some sort of neo-hippie protestor.
when everything went totally downhill, for Corey, like when Topanga's parents were getting divorced + she had-to move away.
Boy meets world is my favorite show. But it started going bad after they got married i think.
The show Jumped the Shark when it went from a comedy to a drama. I mean, everything was so serious! It was sooo annoying! And don't even get me started on Topanga! The show was seriously turning into The Young and the Restless.
Grr! after the gang's senior year in high school, the show was like an ongoing soap!! wasn't it supposed to be funny? I thought the show was awesome.. until they got to college.
This show has taught me so much about life. It was like a modern Wonder Years (coincidence that the main character is Fred Savage's brother?) It was so insightful and left tears in my eyes after every episode. It never jumped the shark and I don't have a bad word to say about it. I will sorely miss it.
This show jumped the shark when Cory and Tapanga tied the knot. I mean, in the episode when Cory first started to notice girls and he liked Tapanga because she was wearing a dress, it became obvious that they were going to get together, and when they got married, the suspense was over.
when corey and topanga decided to get marired, the first time, and then she froze when they went to elope. the show just sucks now. he's not even a boy anymore. cancel it!
I dunno, many times, it was funny, I would like never miss it, until it became a drama, NOT COMEDY, DRAMA!! everything bad seemed to happen to Cory!!!!I also think the marriage, yuk! Nope, the season finale should have been the wedding!!!
they got married..how dumb is that.....they got married and went to "paradise" and almost didn't come back Corey and Topanga should 't be together....oh and when she became normal it went down hill oh and when sean lost his bad ways
This show never jumped! It was so awesome! I grew up watching Cory and Topanga, I cried when they did, and cheered when they were happy. The series finale was soo cute too! I cried b/c I felt like it was time to move on. I graduated from high school this year (2000) and it really put an end to my chapter. So it fit in with me perfectly, now I am off to college without Cory and Topanga!
When Cory and Topanga got married! That's what everyone knew was eventually going to happen. That was the whole pont of the show, watching Cory and Topanga break up and get back together! So when they got married it was the end of them breaking up! The point of the show was demolished!!! Even thought it still was a great show!
This show jumped when Cory, Topanga and Shawn went off to college. The elements of being in Philly were lost after that, and the show focused less on Cory's ineptitude and more on friendship.
I mean, they didn't have squat, no money, they were students with no jobs and no help from mommy and daddy, yet they were married with an apartment? I know TV is fantasy but even fantasy doesn't go that far. Besides, their cuteness wore off years before.
Lemme start at the beginning...The first episodes were totally the best! Topanga and Cori fought, but you could tell deep down they were really good good friends. And Minkus. Why'd they drop him? He was such a valuable asset to the show!!! As for Topanga going nuts and cutting off all her hair...MORON!!!! That's where it all went downhill. She became normal and SUPERFICIAL!!! And Cori fell "in love" with her for her stupidity. She was no longer a smart, witty, intelligent, against the flow girl, she was...normal...Also, her father, the dude from the monkees, kicked butt! He was awesome. They should have kept him instead of replacing him with some loser. They should never have had her marry Cory because she should have been #3 in the Cory and Shawn trio. If she had stayed strange and not gotten romantic with Cori, then that would have been cool. Okay, and the graduation and college years could have been done well if there were different writers who actually knew what they were doing. As for the different rooms...Anyone stop to notice that the Jack, Rachel, and Eric's room is Turner's old Apartment. And how Cori and Topanga's or Angela and Shawn (or whoever is living with who, I lost track)'s room is Cori and Eric's old room? And, alas, we must admit that that wedding was the WORST wedding ever!!! I can't believe they cut Eric's hair!!! My GAWD he was Georgous!!!! And then he turned into some "guru" when he entered college. The girls are no longer attracted to him like they used to be, and he's gained a lot of weight. Plus he has the IQ of a piece of paper. How does he make it through college??? And as for Feeny...I think he's more afraid of change than the rest of the gang, but I wonder...I think he's actually quite sick and tired of those kids, but he's married and has a kickin job, so why would he quit? And as for the only character who has remained genuine all those year? Shawn, hands down. He still has that youthful troublesome spark in his eyes that he did seven years ago. I think he tried showing the world how WRONG topanga is for Cory when they fought at the wedding. I think Jack is a cool BACKGROUND character, and I don't like Rachel too much. But I think Angela is perfect for a role in boy meets world. Actually, I take it back. I liked Jack, when he first met Shawn. Also, Cory still has some of those "I want the world to be idealistic" traits to him, but he's been ruined by him woman. They need to relax a bit in the content of the show. Recently they thought Topanga was pregnant, but she was really dieting, then everyone's like, "topanga's so beautiful" blah blah blah. It was in response to all the viewers asking why he gained so much weight and why her shoulders and chest are soooo broad! As you can tell, I'm a big advocate of Cory and Shawn's friendship. I think Angela is the right girl for Shawn. I think Cory and Topanga need to go out and still find their perfect whomevers. I think the show should finally be put to rest with a big bang of an episode. Bring Turner back, and explain that he was in Tibet or something. Bring Minkus back and have him be the next Bill Gates. HAve Feeny and Mrs. Feeny there, happy that it's all OVER. Bring back the original Morgan, because she was less of a Biatch. New Baby? Was this supposed to be a hint of a new B.M.W?? Make Eric Hot and slightly dim-witted again. Bring back the weirdo Dad. Have Topanga ShoSmanga realize who she is deep down inside. Have Cori hate it and realize that he doesn't want to be married. Have Shawn and Angela marry in a quiet ceremony with only Turner, Feeny, and the priest present. Cori and topanga should divorce. Jack leaves with Rachel, everyone goes their seperate ways. Zoom out on the logo "Boy Meets World (Reality)". The End. I love BMW, have watched nearly every episode, but it jumped the shark long ago. It's come the closest in representing growing up for adolescence, at least for me. I will miss it dearly....
This show never Jumped the Shark! This is the best show on the face of the Earth! And I could totally relate to it! I loved it from the very first episode, to the very last, I cried at the sad moments, and I laughed at the funny.... Corey, yea, he is a loser, but he was still cool, Topanga, I totally relate to her, so much! Shawn, reminds me of my neighbor, I mean, c'mon, do I have to keep on listing stuff, this show was one of the most innovative shows that was ever on TV. It relates to my generation, what we go through, shows the tough decisions, and the easy... Even tho they got married at an early age and were "supposedly" destin for eachother, it made it even better. MORE INTERESTING! I don't care what other people think, that will be my most favorite show of all times, and when I grow up and I have children, I want them to see what classic, good TV was like when I was young! Boy Meets World is the BEST show on the face of the earth, and let the reruns live on!!!
i remember whne i was little i used to tune into every single episode. cory was just so cute! i loved his little sister, shawn was a total hottie, and it was quite funny. then one friday night this past year (2000) i wasn't doing anything, so i decided to settle down and watch my favorite old show. well, the first thing i noticed was that cory acted worse, like, he just couldn't remember how to sound funny...then i noticed that they talked about sex a lot more than they ever did..i mean, i used to watch this show with my whole family and now i was a little ashamed to, especially with my 8-year-old sister! next i noticed it lost the funniness. it was all lovey dovey, now, i don't mind lovey-doveyness so much, but it was terrible...then it was like, um hello, have you ever heard of a teacher who hates his students yet follows them from grade school all the way to college??? plus topenga gained like 25 pounds, but still wore tight fitting skimpy outfits that used to look good on her but now don't. i mean, i know it probably wasn't entirely her fault for gaining all that waight, but at least she could've wore clothes that made her figure look good! so that was weird, plus, i dunno, the only two characters who didn't really change were mrs. and mr. matthews, and even they changes a bit. that what i have to say.
I have watched B.M.W since the first time it aired. I have laughed and cried throughout every event that took place on the show. Some want to say that it's unreal and life doesn't happen that way, and I agree it doesn't. But in some sense it gives you nice way of looking at things. There aren't many of us who are going to marry someone we've known since kindergarten and at such a young age. Not many of us are going to have a teacher who follows us through every grade or experiences such bizarre incidences..but either way I love this show. Eric may be stupid and make an ass out of himself every once in a while, but it's his character and after all it's what makes us laugh, it's his stupidity that's funny. Cory and Shawn have been best friends through all odds (not many can say that for ourselves) and maybe some have a problem with this show because to most of us life can't turn out so perfect and simple. Not many of us will have someone to see us through everything, but there are some who do..and though it may seem bizarre to some...its nice to watch a show that can give you hope and turns out the way you wish your life could. It's television people and not everyone watches tv to see what they already know happens in life. They want a sense of hope for how it could/should be. I love this show and I think people should stop criticizing it!
I think the show jumped quite awhile ago, the producers just kept pushing it. It began to get bad when they got into college definitely. Topenga got fat and bitchy, Shawn wasn't good old entertaining Shawn, and Eric also put on a couple pounds and became increasingly weird and annoying. This show is a bit screwed up. The biggest thing is that once Topenga and Cory got together they began talking about how they met and fell in love on the monkey bars when they were three. Funny though...in 6th grade they hated each other because Topenga was some freaky witch girl, they didn't get along at all. Then, they all of a sudden got into high school and were ready to graduate in a couple years. And I found it a little odd that Feeny and Turner were their teachers every freakin year. Oh yeah, and there's only 9 desks in all their classrooms. But, hey, all in all, I like it.
Please, please, please kill this show! Put it out of it's misery. Each episode becomes more and more painful. Let's call the Dr. Kevorkian of Television planning and let him have his way with the show. It's time to move on.
This was my favorite show ever until they got married, then it was just AWFUL and i stopped tuning in, i still like to watch the old episodes on syndication once in a while.
When this first came on, i adored it. It was cute, funny, about kids my age. I loved Topanga. I loved her name but she was like me, a smart girl who believed in contacting gods and stuff and was totally off the wall...what happened? After awhile it just wasn't worth watching. I felt like I was watching a poorly written soap opera. Plus, Topanga and Cory looked like they should be starting high school, not college. Then the parents had to go and have a baby, Eric had major attitude problems...I did like the idea, though, of Mr. Feeney always being there for the kids. He was one of the best TV teachers.
first of all, this show did get bad when corey went to college, it wasnt too bad when erik went there. also in defence of the whole part about corey liking tapanga when they were 5 to them hating each other to dating. Erik told corey girls had cooties and this made corey not like girls.
BMW is over all a pretty good show. As they got older the characters got annoying. Cory became an complete idiot, worry over everything. Tapango went from be pretty cool and had some awesome views of the world, to another petty teenager! Whats up with that? Eric... thats a whole other story... sure, he is suppose to be dim-witted, NOT MENTALLY ********! Come on! Shawn was one character that stayed cool through the series. The last season was very raunchy. The jokes were all about sex. Not the family show it once was!
When a lawrence brother enters a show jumped, not even a new born baby could save the show.
This show jumped the shark twice for me- once when they suddenly skipped over multiple years of school, and the other time on that episode where Shawn dresses like a girl to write a newspaper article. I'm a teenage boy, and I was found Shawn as a girl extremely attractive, so needless to say, it creeped me out so much that I never watched again.
When corey and topanga got married. We can only follow these kids so far throughout their lives.
They had already used all the typical teen problems so they had to come up with creative alternatives. The show was too dramatic and college just ruined everything. Eric was funny but I felt sorry for him because he was always the dumb one everyone laughs at.
I think Boy meets world is the best show you can watch and who cares if they skiped two grades its still a very good show. And i love every episode, even when they are in college. And I still watch the reruns even though I have seen everyone a billion times. ITS STILL THE BEST SHOW EVEN IF THEY CANCELED IT!!!!!!!
boy meets world used to be the best, like in its first couple seasons. the writing was kind of cheesy, but it was cute considering the kids were like 12 years old. the acting was even good...corey was funny and so was eric. AND eric was also hottt. then when everyone suddenly became two years older, and corey and topanga started dating, the show got to sucking big time. topanga became an annoying, whiny heifer, and then eric got fat. eric's tragic weight gain was, in my opinion, the most horrible thing that happened to the show. the reinventing of history and the numerous touching/very special episodes can be excused, but when eric got fat, that was just the end. and don't even get me started on the marriage thing with corey and topanga...now THAT was just heinously unbelievable, and unbelievably heinous. don't get me wrong, i still love the show...and in spite of the fact that in the end about 90% of every episode was utterly cringe-worthy, i just couldn't seem to turn it off once it was on...
One (small) step up from Saved By The Bell--so many lapses in logic it defies the senses--same teacher, disappearing characters, idiot adults. lesson learned on every show, stupid people beyond belief......and William Russ went to this??! God, what a great actor he is! Is it just me or was Topanga a pretty hot babe? While she certainly was no model in stature, they dressed her pretty damned sharp. The subway show (always great with the sound off) showcased a pretty amazing outfit and stillettos. Maybe I'm a sucker for a full mouth, but she was better than that chick on Blossom by a mile!
This show hasn't jumped yet, but I can guarantee it will when people watch the reruns on the Disney Channel and think they know everything about the show. I hate when people do that! This show used to mean something to me, but now EVERYONE I KNOW watches it and it doesn't seem like my special thing anymore.
This was a great show. I must admit that I watched the first few seasons, stopped watching because I was stupid, and then found it again during its last season. To people who think that Topanga was fat-Are you nuts??? She was a curvy girl, nothing wrong with that! Women are better with meat on their bones. I mean come on, who really thinks that anorexic ladies like Calista Flockhart and the Friends gang are hot??? And another thing, when Cory and Topanga got married, it was a great move! Nothing jumped there. I believe that the show transcended onto a higher level of greatness during its final season. A must watch!!!
Ok, now first of all Cory and Topanga HATED each other in the beginning. Despised, even. Topanga was all weird and stuff...frizzy whacked out hair. Then *boom* Cory and Topanga are in love and she became normal. Um, did the writers forget the PLOT or something? Geez. But it really did jump when the freakin' kids got married.
When Corey and Topanga got together, the whole show was ruined. The whole thing with Topanga was that she was weird. And after they got together, people were always talking about how they had been together since they were little. But in the first few seasons, they couldn't stand each other. What the hell is up with that?
Minkus disappears and Topanga suddenly gains 85 pounds? Coincidence? I think not.
It jumped the shark when they introduced Rachel. And when they went to college more importantly when they confused the people who weren't really paying attention by having them graduate so early. First of all, why have them graduate early only to have them keep on with the same teachers, same sets only redecorated, and keep with the show? Don't you think graduation would have been the perfect ending rather than have them get married and introduce stupid new characters. I did however find Eric's humor funny. His change of character was the only good one. Why did Shawn turn gay? Why didn't they make Topanga loose a few pounds? It's obvious that they really needed to spend a little more time on that season fanale. It looks to me that they just got lazy. Either that, or they switched writers and to one that didn't even know the show's history. Too bad. It could have been one of the best.
This show jumped a big mama shark with HUUUGE mama teeth when Topanga and Cory end up on this paradise island only to realize that paradise is where friends and family are. What is wrong with these two?? They act like they're 65 years old. And whenever they make those jokes with sexual innuendo, please tell me you reach for the barf-bag the same way I do. Why did the writers decide to make all the guys on this show stupid? Do they think it's cute?? Cuz I find it to be utterly ridiculous!! I would bitch slpa these guys from here to eternity if I ever met them!! One more thing--has anyone else noticed that Cory and Shaun are into each other just a LITTLE too much?? (re: the wedding episode where Shaun and Cory went PMS on each other's asses because they were so depressed that they wouldn't be as close now that Cory and Topanga were getting married!!). Dear lord--this show should have been cancelled once the writers realized that writing isn't just a cut and paste job.
when corey and topanga first got together and all of a sudden they had been together since they were 3.... what the hell ever! that totally killed the show! what was worse was their engagement and graduation! and when they took minkus off and harvey kiner. Mr. turner helped it out some, but mr. feeny forever being at their school as a teacher... come on! i always loved the show, but by the time it ended, it had been dead for a while.
B.M.W. is the best show on Earth, and i LOVE IT, but it did jump the shark when they skipped two grades, Corey and topanga always said that they loved each other all their lives when corey hated topanga until they went to Jr.High. But i dont care,it's still my favorite show!!!!!!!!!
To the person who said that it was weird that no one mentioned anything about Shawn's girlfriend being black...Maybe in your neck of the woods (where Billy Bob don't like coloreds) it would be weird, but don't assume that that's the way it is for everyone and everywhere else. I'm guessing you're American, right? Sheesh...Anyhow, Boy Meets World was, in my opinion, just silly teenage fluff. I watched during the first couple of seasons (when Topanga was 'different' - the way she should have always been!). I remember tuning in a couple years or so ago and they had a "very special" episode where Shawn was sincerely trying to cry because his dad had a heart attack. Um, when did the show go from having the depth of Saved By the Bell to trying to be a bad ABC TV movie of the week?
this show jumped when they lost the whole point of the show. cory started out as a frustrated kid with an awful little sister, a popular older brother, and a ***** teacher next door. it was funny the first season, when there was mingus, elementary school, and when he hated the very bizarre topanga. the way they just completely ignored who she was in the first season pissed me off. every season since the first has been sappy, stupid, and any other negative description you can come up with. they should have canned it in the second season. tgif was an awful idea. i hope whoever came up with all those shows has to watch them over and over in hell.
My only gripe on this show is Morgan. Good idea, but when it takes five actresses to find one who vaguely fits the general idea, let it go. She could have just mysteriously diappeared, and no one would have cared! other than that, it was an awesome show. Thanks Will, Matt, Ben, Daniell, and Rider. BMW will be sorely missed.
Oh my god. This show jumped the shark, way back when PUBERTY hit. But besides all that, heres the deal. This show had an unhealthy relationship with HAIR. I'm dead serious. During the first season Cory has the same god awful brillo pad he had until cancellation but Eric has like four different hairstyles in a span of six months! Remember the short one, then it gave way to the "noveau preppie" flipped over one eye style, then the part down the middle, and then sort of flipped all back. Then throughout the seasons it went through a weird metamorphisis to extremely long, cut, extremely long. Then, directly preceding cancellation it was scalped. Shawn's hair was weird too. I mean, in the beginning while Eric's hair was changing every six seconds, it was kind of long. Then it was greasy short. Then long. Man, were they obsessed with hair. then Topanga and her hair. Remember when it was long and curly and Cory used to mock her about it ("do birds get stuck in that?")??? Then she cuts it, and it's a "typical" teen style. And that sucked. I think hair was the downfall of this show.
Topanga was a hottie. For sure. No thanks on that tall redhead with the butch haircut that lived with Eric and Jack though. And what the hell was up with Cory's yiddish rantings after getting hitched? He turned into some weird old fart that was obsessed with everyone being happy and close. Shut up and go sleep with your wife.
I was eleven when this show started back in '93. Oh my god. I loved it. Every single freakin Friday night when I was in sixth grade me and my best bud Kira would watch this. We watched it until we outgrew it (when we were like, 14). Back when it was new, man, it wasn't "ART" or anything, but it was cute as hell. And Eric was also hot. Then, last spring I was home sick, and flipping through channels when I landed on the old TGIF standby, BMW. I decided to watch. I wish I hadn't. Eric was FAT, his hair was SHORT (like shorter than his first geeky, but still adorable 'do back in the beginning) and he was an IDIOT. In the beginning...he did dumb things like drive without a license, pursue beautiful women who hated him, and crap like that. But NOW he used his job's earnings to pay for a monkey's boarding???? WHAT??? I guess with every pound he gained, he lost a brain cell. Too bad! My god, was he adorable back in the "good old days". Also, when did Cory get to be such a D! ICK? And why did Topanga and him get hitched? Topanga was cool back when it started (remember her peasant dresses, crimpy hair and "aura juice"?). The redhead is annoying. And now "Jack" is fulfilling "hot guy" standards. Eric probably gained weight on purpose. He was probably like "screw this, I'm eating a Suzy-Q". The new Morgan sucks. and its not a comedy anymore!
BMW was one of my favorite shows untill Topanga's parents kept changing, especially the father,1st Peter Tork, Mckean (from Laverne & Shirley) then finally some hack who I had only seen in commercials. Plus how could her mother not keep the same first name? Chloe then Rhiannon (old Fleetwood Mac song). Plus Cory got so stupid & gay acting that even Topanga,& Cory's parents were questioning his preference. I really think the only reason it stayed on so long is because it had a low budget. Did anybody ever notice that in the 2nd or 3rd year Topanga would wear the same clothes from year to year that's why her skirts got so short over the hiatus when they first broke up until they got back together. I still like the show in reruns but it does not wear well with age.
This show definitely jumped when the gang went off to college. The storyline of the show in the first season was about this boy (Corey) who wanted to move more than anything because he hated living next to his teacher (Mr Feeney). Mr Feeney was supposed to be this old, nagging, mean teacher. Topanga was so funny because she was weird- hence the name. The episode where she drew on her face with lipstick was so funny. But she was also very attentive and smart- just like Minkus- and her and Minkus had somewhat of a love-connection- as much as one can in the sixth grade. Eric was the "cool" one. Shawn was the "skanky" one...the whole point of him was to teach kids that its okay to be friends with someone who is different than you and isnt rich. He wasnt cool at first. But, it definitely jumped when Corey and Topanga got married. And the new Morgan sucked- damn, was she obnoxious. And i liked Harley, Joey and Franky and how they picked on little Shawn and Corey. It completely turned soap opera after they graduated. They should still be in highschool. If they would have stayed in highschool, they would just now be graduating- and the show could have ended with a graduation episode and it woudlda been awesome. I think they just got new writers. I used to laugh my butt off at this show. Too bad huh?
This show was nearly ready to jump the shark when Cory and Topanga became the perfect couple and the show really stopped being about the painfully funny struggles of growing up. Then it was all downhill after they graduated from high school. It was nearly as bad as Saved by the Bell: The College Years, except that most of the characters stayed on the show. It couldn't have done much more to unrealistically portray college life. How is it that every college dorm is co-ed and that best friends in a school of thousands end up roommates/neighbors and in every class together? If this were to actually happen to one of my friends and their high school pals, I'd tell them to CUT THE CORD!
THIS SHOW NEVER "JUMPED THE SHARK"!!! I LOVED EVERY SINGLE EPISODE AND THOUGHT IT GOT ONLY BETTER WHEN CORY AND TOPANGA GOT MARRIED. WHY SHOULDN'T THEY? IT'S NOT A SOAP OPERA WHERE NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO BE HAPPY! IF I COULD BE A NEW CHARACTER ON THE SHOW, I WOULD LOVE TO BE CORY AND SHAWN'S BEST FRIEND, OR MAYBE ERIC'S. ANYONE WHO SAYS THE SHOW SUCKS CAN JUMP OFF A CLIFF FOR ALL I CARE BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST SHOW EVER!!! P.S. DID THE FIRST MORGAN DIE IN REAL LIFE?
The show completely lost all of its okay-ness when Cory turned into a 40 year old man. I mean, come on, what teenage guy actually acts like that? And his and Topanga's relationship...every episode, something else goes wrong in the relationship. He cheats on her, she kisses another guy, they break up, they get back together, they argue, then make up, PUKE PUKE PUKE. And when Topanga left Philly, she came back, and her parents actually let her. COME ON. I dont know many parents who would allow their child to stay somewhere for some guy or girl. And in the beginning, Eric had a little bit of a brain. In the middle, he was an idiot, and all of a sudden, on one show,he is mature enough and ready, and he wants to adopt this kid. How much sense does that make?? NONE. And Cory and Topanga are "destined". If they're so damn destined, why did they break up 3,000,000 times in 7 years???? And at one point, when Topanga came back from Paris or whatever, Shawn went out with her. Now how many guys would actually watch their best friend do that? HOW STUPID!!!
What I used to love most about this show was how each character had their own little conflicts that came around during the show in between the humor. Corey and Topanga weren't dating but they still had this weird awkward thing for each other that they couldn't admit. Shawn was the bad boy w/ a good heart from the trailer park, Eric was dumb, but he wanted to stop working for his dad and go to college. I loved That whole thing with him and Turner was great, I miss Turner so damn much. I loved how when Shawns dad left, not only did the cool teacher put a roof over his head, but he also gave Shawn awesome advice and a sense of direction. My favorite episode was when Shawn joins the cult, and Turner gets into that bike accident and ends up unconscious. Then, Shawn does that little monologue in the hospital room and Turner moves his hand to hold Shawns had. I felt so good. I thought Shawn was going to be more comfortable w/ himself, Turner would bounce back and they could live together again. Well, that didn't happen. There was the "changes" episode, where everything in Corey's life changed, badly. Thing that pissed me off the most was that they got rid of Chubbys. WTF was that. Remember how they would always meet at the Chubbys to hang out talk play some billards or whatever? I loved Chubbys! Then they just got rid of it. It was like the whole cast moved out of Philly and never looked back. The show went downhill, AND FAST. No more Turner, why? No more parents, why? Morgan disappeared and came back as a total ******. The "new" characters. Topanga and Corey were officially dating, no more puppy love stuff. And everyone became a big ******! This was the best show and they KILED it. why?
first, let's look at the title. "BOY" meets world. Not "Aging flavor of the week." meets world. It's like this: Boy met world, boy went to world's house and crashed for seven years, when boy had no job, world kicked boy on his ass and boy and his brat of a girlfriend onto the crub. I mean "MY GOD!" It was funny the first few years until the whole emotional thing set in. And another thing, What the hell's with this whole episode structure:Corey gets talked into committing some type of "Family sin" (i.e. Taking beer, driving to Vegas.) And then his dad does some fake-ass scolding attempt, And then there's a big Family moment. That format's good, BUT NOT WHEN IT'S EVERY OTHER EPISODE!
Boy Meets World began as a very funny show. Then it just stopped making sense. I mean, how did they go from being in the sixth grade to being sophomores in college in only seven years? Why did Topanga suddenly stop being a hippie freak just because she became Cory's love interest? And what in the hell was going on with Shawn? I mean, he was crying on practically every episode! One second his dad died, the next he joined a gang, the next he finds out his mother wasn't his real mother. He became the Kelly from Beverly Hills 90210 of Boy Meets World except he didn't get anorexia, amnesia, bulimia, raped, shot, stabbed, and whatever else happened to Kelly. Come to think of it, maybe they're not that alike, but a lot of bad stuff still happened to poor Shawn! He was a good actor though, and Will Friedle as Eric stole the show! He kept things funny when they were getting cheesily sad.
It is so unrealistic to think that Corey and Topanga would stay together all those years and get married. Give me a break, it rarely happens outside of Mississippi or Arkansas. Also Topanga was such a babe when she was younger, but contrary to what most people say on here, it's not so much that she got fat, it seems like her boobs are too large for her body. She's packed kinda tight and needs to get a reduction. Her big boobs make her look fatter than she really is. She needs to reduce to a large b-cup or small c-cup. Those big D's are too much for her little frame. Those big DSL's on her pretty face are enough to make me tune in though!
I stoped caring for this show as soon as the main couple (Cory and Topanga) decided it would be better to "Just be Friends". What the hell!?
I don't think this show ever really jumped, and I'm pretty angry at some of the other ignorant comments made. For example, you can say that they look young, but in reality, when the show was in it's freshman year of college, the youngest members were Ben Savage (Corey Matthews) and Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence) who were 17. That's only about a year younger than the average college freshman. Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter) was 20 years old and in his Sophmore year of college in real life. Tina McGee (Angela), on the other hand, was actually 30 and the mother of 3. So, I don't think anyone's to judge how old they LOOKED. And as for the hair issue, maybe the show wasn't so much in control of the issue and the actor's were battling between what the producer's wanted and what they wanted. Afterall, it is on their heads. So, check your facts before you go spouting information you don't even know to be true.
What the hell. Corey and Topanga hate each other in the first season and don't really even seem to know each other, and then BAM they have been best friends since they were 3!? umm..OKAY...and then COME ON they would NEVER have gotten married in real life, Topanga would have killed that loser Corey in resentment for not letting her go to Stamford or whatever and since when did she get smart, Minkus was the smart one, did the writers get amnesia or something because this show made NO SENSE!
I watch reruns of this show all the time it's still one of my favorite's. Sure the writers may exaggerate Eric's nuttiness at times, but it is extremely funny. Heck, I crack up every time I hear him say, "You need a guy who maybe has had part of his brain removed and thinks he's a bunny. Then maybe the two of you can go off and be bunnies together. CHECK!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE GIVE ME THE CHECK??!!!" Lol. That was hilarious. I also liked that Cory and Topanga got married. They really make a cute couple.
And I just want to tell you morons who keepy saying Topanga is fat to grow up. A woman should have respect for her body, not starve herself to a skeletal horse face just because the media and inconsiderate, shallow, worthless clods encourage it. I think Danielle Fishel is, and always will be gorgeous. But on the subject of the show itself -- I though the wedding was ridiculous, with Shawn standing up there at the alter with a dumb look on his face. But I thought they needed to get married, and that the newer episodes were better. The last episode depressed the crap out of me when Mr. Feeny said, "Class dismissed." Yeah, it wasn't the smartest show in the world, but it was cute and weird, and I grew up with it, so...there.
This is the best show ever made (besides the simpsons) i love this show i never get tired of it , but there are 3 things i really hate about it 1 thing is 1 is Mr. Turner died that was the best thing about boy meets world was Mr. Turner he kinda threw the show 2gether. 2nd is they grew up 2 fast the numbers dont add up and last the show turned into a drama comedy instead of just a comedy i liked this show cause it was funny not cause it was sad.
This show just got completely stupid towards the final seasons. I mean, come on, MARRIED? They were 12 like 5 years ago! The writing just got lazy after the first few seasons, they started playing for a lot more serious angles, and it didn't work. One thing that was great through the whole series was Will Friedle, that guy's just hilarious, he carried the show most of the time.
When Jack came on the scene/when they all went to the same college/ when Mr. Feeny became a savior. This show repeatedly jumped the shark. I still love it, but it went way too soft. How about the one where Corey and Topanga live in a slum apartment. That sucked.
This show jumped many times, but i still liked it. i thinked it jumped big when characters disappear. Mr. Turner, minkus, topanga's sis, shawns sis and bro(not jack)and probably many others. it was a good show. i thought the riters make eric look bad in the last few seasons. he was funny in the first few seasons. but he was ********, occansionsly funny, in the last few episodes i like eric. hes cool. whats this hole topanga gaining wait thing? sure she gained some waited but she sure as hell aint fat who wants a skinny peice of crap? cory gets way to serious in the last few seasons. i miss the little 12 year old cory. who cares about skipping 2 grades? its a TV show!
They got stupid after moving to college. Feeney and the parents' characters were pointless. Also, Shawn ends up having at least two half brothers and one sister that we never see.
This show jumped shark so many times. You know, if only TV execs new when to pull the plug... then again, I hated this show from the very beginning. Fred's the talented one.
They were cute pre-teens...then high school students engaging in hilarious highjinks and then...college??? What's up with that??? I wasn't ready for college and they shouldn't've been either!
Ugh....i know this is stupid...but i definitly thought the show jumped the shark when Danielle (topanga) started going with Lance Bass in real life...ya i know it has nothing to do with the show, but it made me mad!
This show jumped the shark when the writers decided a constant black person must be on the show. Thus, Angela was added. The most ridiculous thing is that she was added as Shawn's girlfriend and her race was never mentioned! Now I'm not a racist, but c'mon, does every show need an inter-racial relationship? Add the fact that she is not even a good looking girl, I just can't see how Shawn falls in love with her at first sight. This was just totally ridiculous, but not surprising, seeing how the show was made by Disney, the most politically correct studio in Hollywood.
Sure, there were BIG problems with things like hair, age, disappearing siblings, the Feeny thing, reused sets, too many theme songs, marriage, humor, (I could go on all day... and I even sorta-kinda like this show...) but the NUMBER ONE problem I have is the fact that Minkus disappeared. I mean, come on. Minkus was, like, the anti-Cory and I would have much rather seen pocket-protector-smart Minkus and tree-hugging-sorta-freakish-smart Topanga together than her and I'm-average-to-stupid-but-the-writers-seem-to-forget-that-whenever-I-need-to-be-somewhat-smart-to-benefit-the-plot Cory. I think that Minkus was one of the show's better characters and would have had a lot of potential had he not been kicked off. And as if that isn't bad enough, they try to bring him back for the Graduation episode so that you feel like, just maybe, Topanga might have had some competition for valedictorian. And why didn't Minkus get to be salutatorian, then? Was it because there are only nine students in every grade (how else do you explain the nine desks per room and the fact that they all wind up together year after year after year?--and then there are a whole bunch more than that graduating... what did they do, graduate the whole state of Pennsylvania at JAHS?) and to give two students speaking roles would be unproportionate, or is it because we had to have time for Topanga's speech AND Eric's musical number in the same episode and still get it over with on time and sell enough commercials? Or maybe it's because Minkus hasn't been around since 6th grade and doesn't have any memories of his years at John Adams, which he only ever attended for one day, to share right before he graduates? I could even see Minkus skipping grades to graduate in 1998 instead of 2000, like he should have, but not the whole entire grade. Even if there WERE just nine of them, I have an incredibly hard time believing that Cory and Shawn even passed every grade until graduation AND got accepted into college TOGETHER... and why didn't Topanga go to Yale? She should have dumped Cory on the spot and left for Yale, but I won't get into that now... In conclusion, this show jumped the shark after Minkus left! Every season after that would have had such potential had he stayed aboard...
Boy Meets World was a show I greatly enjoyed for a long time. I still watch it on Disney, actually. The show jumped when they kept screwing up all the little things they added in it. Some of the messed up continuities I noticed were: 1. For the first couple of seasons, Topanga calls her mom "Cloey". After a while, she starts calling her "Mom" and her father calls her "Rhiannon". Can we say messed up? 2. Shaun has a sister, Melissa, and Topanga has a sister, Nebby (short for Nebula Stop-the-war Lawrence), for about an episode each. Then they disappear. 3. Topanga's father is played by 3 different people: One of the Monkees (best one, in my opinion) and two other guys. 4. Shaun has a half-brother who appears for one episode in the trailer park (different from Jack, obviously). Then he's gone. 5. Cory's got a little brother, Joshua Gabriel, for two or three episodes, and then he's gone. 6. Morgan and Mincus completely disappeared. That sucked a lot, 'cause they were cool. 7. Eric's friend, Jason, disappeared as well. He wasn't as cool, but it didn't make sense what happened to him. 8. Mr. Turner did the same thing as Jason. I never figured out what happened to him after his accident. Then there was the fact that Eric was a total moron at the end (not right, 'cause he's bright. Mr. Feeny said so himself). Though the "What's Eric's favourite type of fish? Penguin!" thing was funny, other than that, Eric's stupidity was rather disappointing. He's my favourite character; I don't want him stupid as a rock...
ok...when angela all of a sudden came into the picture and shawn fell in love with her..this didn't ruin the show it was just weird, and when cory went to Pittsburgh 2 try and put topengas parents back together....did nobody realize that those weren't the parents that topenga had when the show started, they weren't the same actors, nor did they look nothing like the originals...o yea the show got a little messed up when jack n rachel hooked up...that was just..ughh
Anyone read the person's letter at the top. "This show was a modern Wonder Years". "It taught me so much". What the hell are you talking about??!! Was it the episode were Topanga gives up an Ivy league school for her sorry, pathetic, boyfriend. Or the one where Corey goes back in time and meets all his old friends. Only its the 50's. Hell ya. I learned alot from this show too. Like how we never found out what happened to Mr. Turner. Yeah, that taught you that if you don't get the salary you expected for next season and you decide to bitch about it. Your butt is fired. This show was nothing like Wonder years. It had it's moments at the beginning. But that whole getting married thing. I dont think so. Yeah, "Hey Corey! You ready to be the Boy meeting the World?! Well hey pal get ready to support your wife, who will never forget that she stayed home for you, and didn't go to Yale." "Good luck Brilo pad head."
The Thanksgiving Show where the families of Cory and Shawn celebrate together. That story, mixed with the Hutus and Tutsis comparison, was way too overdrawn. This marked the transition of "Cory learning a life lesson each day" to the dramatic nature the show would take later on. It was just too heavy handed and serious..
Ok, ok, so this show HAS jumped a couple times. It probably is one of the cheesiest shows on tv, but I love it. Some shows jump, and go down hill, but something inside you still longs to watch it-- and admit it, you are still entertained! I echo the coments on Eric's overly stupid behavior, Corey's lack of comic timing, and Tapanga's weight gain. However, this show makes me laugh and cry, and I am not ashamed to say that it is my favorite. I think that it is a shame they included so much about Corey and Tapanga's sex life. Anyway, this show is one that I relate to. I love the cheesiness, because we are ALL cheesy at heart, if we weren't, we would neede to lighten up. Lastly, BMW isn't a television legend like Seinfeld or Giligan, but it was truly entertaining, and I will always watch the reruns!
I just want to say something in defense of this show. I admit, it was cheesy and very unrealistic, but this show offers a kind of beautiful escape to kids like me who didn't have such a wonderful life. It was funny, touching and yes, sometimes those "very special episodes" really did make me think or teach me something. I liked the show more and more as they got older. Eric got funnier (stupid or not), Shawn got hotter (don't argue with me here) and I thought the addition of Angela to the show was great. I loved watching that relationship develop; it was so much more realistic to me than Cory and Topanga's -- they actually had problems to work through. My only complaint is that they couldn't just let poor Shawn be happy in the end. After all he went through, they took the love of his life away from him, too! Curse that Michael Jacobs, but I'm waiting on the reunion, and I won't allow them to disappoint me.
This show had its moments, but it never had any consistency. I was in high school when the show first came on, and started watching it mainly because I was a huge Wonder Years fan, and I wanted to see if this new Savage guy and his show could live up to his brother's. The show was cute. I wouldn't say I watched it regularly, but I watched it when I could, and it was entertainably cute. After a couple years of college, the show had just begun in syndication, and I'd watch the show after work during the summers and also occasionally try to catch it in its TGIF slot. The show had gone through quite a few changes: the characters now in high school (weren't they just in elementary school?), they start tackling the whole trailer-park stigma, and Cory and Topanga are in puppy-love. Regardless, I though the show was pretty good, and brought back memories of my awkward teenage years. This is probably when I started watching semi-regularly (at least during the summer). Flash forward a few more years...I'm out of college and working. The show is now on Disney channel. One afternoon, I'm watching some Disney Channel BMW marathon because it's pouring rain outside, so my day's wasted...little did I know what was in store for me. These guys are in college, Cory and Topanga are engaged/married/whatever, the brother is a dupe, the youngest sister, when she manages to be on, looks completely different (oh, wait a minute, it's a completely different actress), there's some Lawrence brother on, and the college dean looks suspiciously just like Cory's elementary school teacher (gasp, it's the same guy and character!). Not only this, but the acting has become horrible, the story lines seem unrealistic and stupid, and what little comedy is left seems painfully forced. The show that I actually enjoyed a few years earlier had become a completely different show that I absolutely abhorred.
I remember the show when it came out in 1993. I was in 6th grade as was the characters so I got really interested and watched the show. When they did that 2 year jump, I really wondered what the producers were smoking. Also, when Topanga went from nerdy girl to girl most guys want to make out with and then Corey turning into brillo-man, that hurt the show, HARD. The true jump the shark moment was when Topanga ran away from Pittsburgh to be with Corey in Philly. After that the show got unfunny, hormones rushed, puberty was set, and everything turned serious aka Dawson's Creek: The Sitcom. If you have a sense of reality, don't watch the reruns on Disney for heaven's sake.
Clearly, as time went on, it was no longer Corey as the "Boy Meeting the World", Eric had completely taken over. I kept expecting to hear Corey whining, in his best Jan Brady-like voice, "Eric, Eric, Eric!"
This show was on for a REALLY long time. It's kind of hard to beleive, considering it had virtually no premise. Still, I always liked it...but I can't beleive Cory and Topanga got together from like, season four and STAYED TOGETHER long enough to get MARRIED! I think when you get married, you can no longer technically be considered a boy...
It was really irritating when they used the "We've been friends/been together our whole lives." type of line. The fact that the older brother, Eric, goes from being a pretty smart guy that his brother can look up to early in the series to a total idiot at the end of the series is also really lame.
Okay, I have a lot of anger for Rider Stong. Just look at his web site sometime, www.riderstrong.com. This kid is the biggest toolbox ever and his stupid face ruined the show. His weird hair and minimal acting skills totally ruined it for me, as did Topanga's huge fish face and Corey's afro. That stupid teacher-neighbor lived too close to them and who really lives next door to their teacher anyway?? The show is just awkward and Rider Strong should not be allowed in the acting business.
Corny, cheesy, surreal, and over-the-top (near then end). But I loved the show anyway. I still watch the Disney Channel re-runs. Watching Cory (and friends) grow up over the years -- I'm not sure why, but I just feel like I could really relate to Cory. I will admit it did suffer from some serious continuity problems -- Topanga's parents, Shawn's sister (and original brother?), disappearing characters with no explanation, skipping grades, re-invented histories, etc... However: 1) The discontinuities never detracted from the show for me -- all seemed like minor details. 2) Who says a show has to be historically consistent anyway? Most sit-com plots are episodic. You can have an inconsistent narrative arc, and still have some darn-funny shows! So what does is matter if Cory and Topanga were dating as toddlers or if they didn't kiss until the episode where Cory fried his hair. It's a sit-com! Much has been made over the dumbing-down of Eric (Cory's older brother). He started out as maybe slightly dim-witted, but it seemed to me that he was just more interested in girls than school. Over the years he got progressively dumber. Why? Because it's funny. Let me cite two examples: Sam Malone of "Cheers". Homer Simpson of "The Simpsons". Two of the longest running shows on TV (to my knowledge). Characters in long-running sit-coms tend to get their character traits exaggerated. It's a fact of sit-com life. On the other hand, Topanga became "more normal" as the series progressed. Why? She became a love interest for Cory. In this case, the narrative arc demanded that Cory and Topanga be compatible , so Topanga's character evolved. I really don't see a problem.
Seems like Cory andhis friend Shawn wanted to be more than friends a few times.Guys don'tbuy other guy's flowers. Talk in a loving tone On more than a few occasions they seemed to be more interested in each other than women (girls in HS years)
your missing the point with the whole 'years dont add up', see because a half hour show doesn't necessarily mean a half hour in the every day lives of the characters, it sometimes spans days. and even more so between episodes, the shows are just kinda documentations of the interesting parts. but during the college thing, with the unrealistic thing of them all going to the same college (a la saved by the bell), it kinda got all about antics and whacky shennanigans, and lost the substance it used to have.
Never jumped...the reason is that anytime they did jump, they made a joke about it before the viewer could...they made jokes about changing Morgans, they made jokes about Mikus and mr. turner vanishing" Senior episode where Sean and Corey refuse to go down the hallway where people get lost and Minkus comes out all grown up, and yells "Mr. Turner wait up and runs back in the hall" The Great thing about Boy meets world is they never took themselves seriously... they even made jokes about how corny the show is when Eric goes to Hollywood and gets cast in the mirror image TV show "Kid discovers universe". Never jumped...always fresh, always surprising... always moving.
: This show was good for a little while. However, many bad things happened to it, not the least of which was Eric's IQ decreasing exponentially as the show went on. By the end, I'm surprised he had enough brain cells to blink (except for the episode with the yard sale -- wow, he got smart for one whole episode!). He couldn't have been dropped as a baby ... maybe he was dropped as a teen? Also, the Feeny thing was scary ... what man would stay with those kids for eight years? At least Minkus never took over the show like Urkel did, because while Jaleel White could carry a show, albeit diverting it from its original premise, the kid who played Minkus couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.
Boy Meets World in its first 2 seasons was fun, humorous and cool with such great storylines as Shawn staying at Cory's or Cory getting detention there always was a helpful lesson but Boy Meets World entered shark invested waters when Cory and Topanga became a couple but it jumped the shark when they got married then it goes from being a family show to the Honeymooners causing the rest old supporting cast to become stale minor characters.
I stopped watching the show about the time they all graduated high school -- I couldn't keep track of the new characters. But the show most definitely jumped BACK with its excellent series finale. Corey, Shawn and Topanga back in Mr. Feeny's room brought tears to my eyes. William Daniels gave that show so much credibility and heart. It's only fitting that he delivered the best line on that show ever: "Do good. (You mean do well?) No, I mean do good."
The show jumps the Shark when Shawn moves in with his teacher and his father went in search of his mother. Corey living near Mr. Feeny was enough. Shawn shouldn't have lived with a teacher too.
Why did Eric become so dumb. Much like Homer Simpson, Eric's intelligence dropped dramatically once he had the SATs. After that he never recovered. He actually became comedy relief. What an idiot. Instead of just paying his friend to be the prequisite idiot, they just got rid of his friend, and made him the idiot.
When Minkus suddenly disapeared....and returned for graduation
The relationship between Boy Meets World and Topanga's ass is inversely related. As Topanga's ass got larger, the quality of the show went down. The more Topanga resembled a blimp, the worst the show got. Her obesity hit around when they left high school. MINKUS RULES!
Ok, a lot of you have pointed out holes in the plot. They all exist, but they are also all justifiable. For instance, Shawns siblings had a tendancy to dissappear. The first season sister could have been much older and just lost contact; the first half brother from the trailer park could have been on his mother's side and later Shawn finds out that Verna is not really his mother, so that takes care of him; and Jack is real. Then there's the thing about Cory and Topanga and do they like each other or not. DUH! In the episode when she almost moves Cory explains the whole thing: They were best friends until they were six when Eric told Cory it was dumb to be friends with a girl and they hated each other until high school when they fell in love again. Your other complaints are about how the characters changed. Duh again! This show about how people change during puberty. Shawn ended up all strange and sensitive and everything because of his screwed-up childhood, Topanga outgrew her hippie stage and became her own person, Eric didn't get much smarter because his parents never taught him anything, and Cory matured and started caring about people's problems instead of just being an abnoxious little kid. Another thing is Mr. Feenie. This may sound unbelievable, but my father's teacher was the same from Kindergarten through eighth grade because he liked his class so much and he was the principal. As for different actors playing the same people, well, just look at the Jeffersons and Happy Days! Come on, everyone does that! Another thing, friends can dissappear. People move, people change schools, what difference does it make? Skipping years: Ok, they lived through every grade, it just wasn't documented on the show. The great thing about Boy Meets World is that the characters are so realistic even if the plotlines aren't, but they always make a joke about it! Each season is different, so it's not really a matter of when it "Jumped the Shark" as much as which season you liked the best. The show was doing well, so why cancel it after graduation? Following them to college makes it more realistic. Also, it became more serious when they got older because that's what real life is like. Life isn't a big joke anymore when you're old. The show could probably have been cancelled at any time with a suitable ending or it could have kept going forever and I would have kept watching it! It's a hilarious and smart show. The gay jokes are funny, and they DID say something about Angela's being black even if they didn't make a whole episode out of it. Rachel was added to give Jack and Eric something to do and that was kinda funny. So I say this show never jumped the shark. It wasn't meant to be totally realistic anyway. Imean, Shawn kills everyone in one episode; they all go back in time in another. That's what made it so fun!
Around the 97/98 season topanga had a great ass and nice tits. I really thought she was hot and i wanted to get in the sack with her. Eventually she gained a little weight and that was truly not for the best.
when cory went out with lauren (after topanga told him to) and she got mad and dumped him,but then topanga went out with that guy from the museum and he kissed her and cory didnt even care and he forgave her even though she wouldnt forgive him! shes such a b*tch now,she use to be funny when she was younger.
Jumped at the get-go. A lame teen comedy with a completely abstract comic genius--Eric--cast on the sidelines. Eric broke story almost every time he spoke. And, of course, he only got hotter as he got older, no matter what your sister thinks.
I've lived in Philly for almost 30 years and i don't remember seeing any trailer parks. Where exactly does Shawn live?
I voted once already, before I had seen as many episodes as I have now. I still think Boy Meets World never jumped the shark, but it did sort of bother me when they first implied that Shawn and Angela were sleeping together. It was during the last season in the episode in which Cory and Topanga try to buy a house so they don't have to live in the married students' dorm. At the beginning of this episode, we learn that Cory, Topanga, Rachel, Shawn, and Angela are all living in a 3-bedroom apartment. A little quick mental math would suggest that two people who aren't married must be sharing a room. Then quotes from this episode including: "We're just playing house," "I've never seen you so happy Angela, so I don't want to get in the way of you and Shawn," "Shawn and I are getting used to this new living together thing," "You're married and we're happy," "We would never want to impose on your life of sin" and "Look, honey, I got us a baby," suggest that the two sharing a room are Shawn and Angela. Up until this point, I thought it was absolutley adorable that boys and girls were living in the same apartment and never sharing beds! It was so innocent and cute. Don't get me wrong- this didn't ruin the whole show. It did, somewhat, however, ruin the whole apartment thing. I know it only lasted one episode, but the only thing entertaining about the coed apartment was the fact that the boys and girls that lived together were forced to act like siblings; and the fact that, even though there were some "crushes," there was no adultry. The funny apartment plotlines were the ones in which Jack and Eric both wanted so much to be with Rachel, but couldn't. Then they made it seem like Angela and Shawn in the same bed was no big deal! Still the best show ever made, but that was just REALLY bothering me!
I dont think it jumped. I grew up with this show. I like it because it is not your everyday sit-com, its kinda out there and wacky. I always liked Shawn and Eric, the best episodes were from 7th-11th grade, even though I'm sure they skipped a few. I didn't like Angela's character. They were attempting to bring in a companion for Topanga and someone assertive and bold, but she came off looking like a female dog and a hopeless cry for black people to feel "at home" watching the show. And the Disney channell edits out "offensive" things and does not show the episode with alchohol experimentation. I saw some ask, what's with the name "Topanga", well I know some one who named thier kid Topanga Rose Anne Marie, poor child.
Ok first of all....I love this show! It's a great show but there are a few things that I never understood. Ok...first of all, in like 6th grade Corey couldn't STAND Topanga. Then...in the later shows where they're together, Shawn always talks about how they've always been together since he first met them. Well...does that make sense to all of you? I'm just not understanding it. Then....how did Angels become a part of this show? Did I miss an episode or what? I mean...I just don't understand.
I am reading all these comments and I can't believe how many people really didn't love this show! This show is my absolute favorite show and I am so appalled by how many people didn't appreciate it's realness as much as I did. I was so glad that the show focused more on drama and not on the comedy. If you want unrealistic comedy, go watch those unreaslistic and horrible shows like "Full House" and "Family Matters". Boy Meets World actually showed situations and things that weren't so easily fixed in a 30 minute sitcom! That was so refreshing! To see teens going through things that weren't as drawn out and melodramatic as "Dawson's Creek" and not as poorly acted and portrayed as "Full House" was great! I loved the whole Cory and Topanga relationship. I loved the interracial relationship between Shawn and Angela! That was classic and I haven't seen an interracial relationship on a teen show since! What's up with that move??!! I also so loved the relationship between Cory and Shawn. How many other shows depict such a strong relationship between two guys without making them look gay? I loved the fact that Cory and Shawn were able to be loving towards each other were able to tell each other that they loved each other and there wasn't anything weird about it. That, in my opinion, is true friendship at it's greatest! Their bond was so strong. I strongly believe that Boy Meets World had so much more to explore and I hate that we'll never know what happened to Cory and Topanga, Angela and Shawn, and the rest of the gang. Usually, sitcoms go downhill after the parents have another baby, but this show did the complete opposite! Boy Meets World got so much better when they were seniors in high school and then got even BETTER when they were in college! The acting was great and I really think they portrayed an excellent depiction of what young married couples are faced with when they make such an important decision (as getting married) at such a young age. Cory (Ben Savage), Topanga (Danielle Fischel), Shawn (Rider Strong), and Angela (Trina McGee-Davis) each portrayed their characters with such enthusiasm and greatness! I really hope that they will act more in the industry. I haven't seen them on anything else since Boy Meets World. A Boy Meets World reunion would be so great!
Well, first of all, the show does talk about life, cause the first thing that comes to my mind is when Cory and Tapanga (sp? oh well.)get married. They thought -like everybody, i think- that all they needed to do was get married, and move into either Cory or Tapanga's apartment in their college. I mean, didn't they rush into marriage? Sure, they were way too young, but its what some teens, or really young adults, are doing out there in the world. But they found out that they were too young, and they should have waited, but they also know that all they can do is live with it, cause divorcing would be wrong, and so they face their lives. Then the fights, its also real life. Cause come on, don't married couples fight? Sure, this show started out as a family show, and it still should be, but isn't the title called 'Boy Meets World'? Meaning that the boy -which is they main person, Cory- is facing the world, and how it really is. I wish they wouldn't make so much sex jokes, cause my little seven year old sister and my little eleven year old brother love that show, and no matter how many times my mother tells my brother that he is not allowed to see BMW -when they are older- he and my sister will still see it. I don't think that the producers or whatever thought that there would be little kids loving that show, or being addicted to it like my lil bro and sis. I watch the show, and i'm 15, and i still think its not that good of a show for little kids. when cory and shawn and tapanga are still in school, its a great show for kids, but after tapanga cuts her hair, thats when it gets not that good. Now its my complains about the characters in the show. I haven't seen every episode, but these are my thoughts. At first, Tapange is a psychic freak, but its cute and funny in a good way. Then she goes to high school and she is not the little psychic (or whatever) that she was before, but instead is now a smart, clever, in a funny way, and normal girl. She is still funny, and supports her friends. When she changed from being psycho, she should have had some reason for her changing, and they should have made an episode or two about it, but its too late now hmm? Then she cuts her hair because of Cory, then she starts acting like if she thinks she is a little bit of all that but not quite there, but is still smart. She starts getting all kissy kissy and pathetic, but still smart. Then she graduates, and then it kills it all. She thinks she is totally all that, and gets FAT, not that its her fault, and wears such tight, tight clothings, and its tight because of her fat, not because 'the clothes were made like that.' no. they should have given her looser clothing so her figure could be seen, not ruined! then she rushes into marriage, not thinking about the future, like, "where will i live? will mine and cory's job salary be enough for us to live off of?" not: "will me and cory have great sex? will i be able to please him?" not some **** like that, come on! Cory, i really don't know how he 'changed', he's still the same to me, except for the fact that at first he hated tapanga, but they were still good friends, and once they're in HS he is hopelessly 'in love' with her. It might have been cause of that little kiss that tapanga gave cory when they were hand cuffed together with a bunch of other kids. That might have been the time he fell 'in love'with her. but doesn't he say that they were together since they were like 2 years old? or something like that? They only real change i saw was his likings with tapanga, and how when he was little, he was bright, but now he's a dumb kind of bright if you know what i mean. he is dumber, but is still bright. see? okay. then he graduates. he's all for the sex thing, and that's why he gets married to tapanga. That was dumb, cause he didn't think about their future, and when he was in trouble, he went to his mommy. please, give me a break. go to your mommy for crying out loud! sure people would do that, but that fight he and his dad had got me thinking about my future. later when he and his wife are better off, all they do is sex, and sex jokes which is sickening cause there are little kids watching this program. Shawn, he hasn't changed, he's still good old shawn. But his parents, i got confused, and got a billion head aches when i tried to analyze what happened with his parents. this is what i got so far, at first, they all lived 2gether, then the mom ran off, and the dad went off looking for her, so basically shawn was orphan and lived with Mr. Turner. Then the dad came back, then the mom came back, so the were a family again. then the mom leaves, again, but the dad stays, but then he dies (i cried!) so shawn is orphan again. so what the hell happened to the mom after that? Eric, hahahahah! he's so funny. at first, he was dumb, but at the same time a bit smart (not too much though) then he got a bit dumber (like when he wants to b a detective, in his dreams, and he even makes a theme song.) and that was when he was perfect. Just the right amount of funny we needed. then he goes to college, now he's just stupid. its actually very sad to see how stupid he got. it seems that he belong in a mental hospital. good lord. but its still funny, and i laugh my butt off. then he got fat, which was very sad (sniff...siff*_*). But hey, he's still funny, but i wish he wasn't so obnoxious, like always yelling for nothing, and he's not interested in chicks no more. The black chic, what's her name? god, and she's one of my favorites! i can't believe i forgot her name! angela? okay, anyways, i'm happy that she came into the picture. She saved shawn from being addicted to girls, and made him a better person. i also like the fact that she is black, cause we aren't supposed to be racist. not to mention tapanga needs a best friend. Jack. I love Matthew! oh my god, he is my favorite actor, he is so fine! oh my god! even my mom said he's cute! AHHHHH! he's so hot! catch me, i'm gonna faint...i just don't like it when he fights over that bitch rachel, or any other girl, he's mine! and i don't like it when he and Eric have the same hair cut, he looks better with his hair the way it was, good lord he's hot, okay that's enough. Mr. Turner. Where did he go? Mr. Feeney. he gets more then annoyed with cory and shawn, yet he is always following them. i mean come on, give lectures every day, live next door to cory? okay... i understand him being in every one of his grade school classes, and even in the high school, maybe he got sick of teaching little kids? but college? i got surprised! i was talking to the TV asking way he was there. its like he stalks the threesome or something. but after everything, hes still a good person, i like him in the show and am happy he is there. Rachel, die , you're nothing in this show, go on, get out of here! Is there any more? oh well. no matter about all the negative things in this show that i just wrote down (which is all i can think of right now) i will always love this show, i am a loyal fan. i hope the make more episodes that make up for all of this.
I started watching this show in '93...They did a wonderful job of developing the characters. The relationship between Corey and friends...Corey and girls..and Corey and family really progressd throughout the years. It was well written and I really grew to love them and understood them. i miss them a lot because I grew up with them and still like seeing reruns if I am home. The worst episode was the Jenifer Love Hewitt halloween episode...she should definately be blond. Also, Rachel looked like she was on Crack. Topanga is beutiful, and I am sure she is a wonderful person in real life, but the way they made her act towards the end (valley girl)it wasnt her. (should have been played by Jenifer Love Hewitt). I miss the show and love the relationship Corey and Topanga had. It reminds me of my fiance and I....true love.
Topanga used to look good. She really packed on the pounds the last few seasons. I guess when you get married all you have to do is sit around and eat.
If you watch every episode, you'll see that the whole thing makes sense. If any holes in the plot appear, the writers patch them up. And the finale sews the whole thing up perfectly. This show was so good, because it was one long story. At first, you think that "Boy Meets World" means that there is a boy who's eleven years old and trying to understand and survive in his world. Then it's about his world getting rocked when he goes to high school where three bullies won't leave him alone, his sixth grade teacher came back to haunt his new school as the principal, his brother is popular, and his hippie friend Topanga is growing up and becoming the object of his affection. By the third season, Shawn is stuck living with a teacher, Topanga is officially Cory's girlfriend, and the years are starting to go by a little too fast. By the fourth season, it is apparent that "Boy Meets World" is referring to his trying to endure high school. Topanga cuts her hair and starts acting more grown up, Shawn's parents return and he's back in the trailer, Eric doesn't get into college and looks for a job, and Cory goes on learning about life, growing up, and trying to stay as close to Topanga as he can—even when she almost moves to Pittsburg. The fifth season brings them into their senior year (somehow) and they have to prepare for college. Shawn, who is now living with Eric and his own long-lost half-brother in an apartment, is doubtful about making it into college, but at least he finally has a steady girlfriend and a nice place to live. Cory and Topanga temorarily suffer a breakup when Cory meets another girl, kisses her, and lies about it, but they end up together again by graduation. Eric makes it through his first year of college with a little help from Mr. Feeny. Cory is afraid of change, and by the time they all graduate, Topanga has turned down Yale to go to Pennbrook with Cory, Shawn changes his mind about college at the last minute and moves out of the apartment (leaving Jack and Eric with a female roommate), and Cory must decide how to answer Topanga's marriage proposal. In the 6th season, Cory's hard work pays off and they all end up together is college (maybe this is what meeting the world means). Right away, Shawn and Angela break up, each thinking the other wants to. Cory and Topanga are left in an awkward position when they know that Shawn and Angela each secretly likes the other. Then, guess who follows them to college, too? Mr. Feeny befriends the dean and gets offered a job teaching at Pennbrook. Also in this season, Shawn's father dies, Feny gets married, and the Mathews have a new baby. When school starts again the next year, it takes a few episodes for everyone except Rachel and Jack to get back together. Finally, Cory and Topanga get married. When they get back from the honeymoon, they must find a place to live without help from Cory's parents. (NOW is he meeting the world?) But, before they know it, Angela is moves to Europe with her father, Topanga gets offered an internship in New York and Jack and Rachel make plans to join the peace corps. Topanga, Cory, Eric and Shawn decide to move to New York and have to say goodbye to Mr. Feeny for the last time. Then leave Philadelphia and meet the world. In the words of Cory, "Boy Meets World! Now I get it."
this started out as a good show. solid characters, cory was the average boy (sorta like beaver cleaver only a little cooler) eric was the good-looking one, sweet, but not too bright. shawn, the ladies man, a bad boy, topanga...weird one, etc...etc....then suddenly they're in high school and cory and topanga start dating. ok...fine by me. i'm cool with that. but oh, it got so sappy! "i've always loved you topanga" when in fact they sorta "disliked" each other in middle school. and WTF? suddenly shawn says they've been in love since they were two and topanga has this nice lil story about her rescuing cory off the top of the jungle gym. flashback scenes too: topanga was not dressed like a hippie child. man if it had not been for MATTHEW LAWRENCE *insert wolf whistle here* and will friedle i woulda never watched the show. matt cuz he's hot and will because he's funny and cute with short hair. damn, i never thought i'd be that shallow....
This show never jumped the shark and never will. We followed Cory Shawn and Topanga through the thick and the thin. With time came new thoughts and ceativity to the show. Like when Shawn searrched for his mother. Or when Topangas parents broke up. It goes on and on. With each plot twist there came more and more things to add to the show. I mean when you watch the show from start to finish...episode to episode you gotta stay focused on the real issues at hand. That and the jokes are funny too!
In one of the old episodes Shawn's sister (Stacy) Gives shawn her hair straitener for Cory to use. That was the last I heard of her. Later on he has a sister named Melissa. Then he has this trailer park dude for a brother. Later on he meets Jack and goes on to say how he always wanted a brother wondering what it would be like when he had 2 sisters and a brother already, it's like they just disappeared.
Whats the deal with everybody dissin' Danielle Fishel for gaining weight. I for one think shes the "Queen of all Women" and thats noteven being fanatical either...hell she could be about 250 and I'd think she was hot!!
Shawn's character was the loose, carefree, "dont live by the rules" opposite of his best friend Cory. When he started to date Angela on a steady basis, it changed the foundation premise of the show and eliminated that contrast between Shawn and Cory.
Eric lost AT LEAST 50 IQ points over the course of this show. By the end, he was a babbling moron. The chances of Mr. Feeney working at every school they attended as they aged is completely ridiculous. They should have just kept him as Corey's neighbor. No 19 year olds in college are going to get married unless the girl is pregnant. I lived in college dorms - the way they look is ridiculous! Much too large. The show was much better when they were in middle and high school.
umm hmm was anyone else confused? in a few episodes shawn had a sister, did he? nope. also theres the episode that shows what the 3 first meet and they're in preschool but in a lot of other shows corey's parents say how hes know shawn since they were babies. also eric wasn't all that dumb half the time but now hes in college and hes a downright idiot. how did he even got into college? also they've had the same history book (the same one i had in 8th grade) every year and mr. feeny followed them to college. i don't know...theres a lot of things that got messed up with that show but i loved it all the same! i am a huge fan.
This show didn't jump, but it got really bad during the third season. The first two years were cute. They were little then, and it was just a nice little puberty show. The third season was just terrible! I don't mind the fuzzy math with their aging (i.e. everyone gets two years older except Eric). The things that bother me are: Rider Strong has serious acne that they try to cover up with make-up (but you can see it anyway) and they still have all the girls after him. I mean, I think he's good looking and everything, but he was 15 and was going through puberty. Also in the third season, they have plots about the teacher's love life. I think they thought grownups could better relate to the show if they did that, but I think grownups like the show anyway! The other thing about season 3 is everyone's hair is just too long! Poor Rider Strong and Will Friedle are always pushing their hair out of their eyes while Danielle Fishel is sitting on hers because those mean producers wouldn't let them get haircuts! I did like that black teacher, that was one good thing about that year. It did get better when they got Lindsay Ridgeway. Not because she was that good, it just got funnier after that. I liked it when they went to Disney World, that was fun. I think the thing that made the third season so bad was that David Trainer stopped directing, so they got a different person directing each episode. And it was funny how Eric kept wanting to be a weatherman! Anyway, the third season was the worst, but the fourth season was just so amazingly good! It was incredible! Every episode was a masterpiece! I don't know how it got so good so fast. I guess it was because they all got haircuts, Rider's face cleared up, and they got another good director, Jeff McCracken. That was the best season. Then the fifth season was almost as good as the fourth. Well, maybe it was just as good, but they were starting to get kind of old. The sixth one was still just as funny as the others. The thing that bothered me about the last season was that the audience screamed every time Matthew Lawrence walked into the room. It was annoying! If it was any other show, it wouldn't be as bad, but Will Friedle was on Boy Meets World. He was the epidimy of good-looking. He was like sent from GOD! Then, just cause he put on a couple pounds, they try to replace him with some guy who's not even that good-looking? That made me want to cry. So much for the seasons, now the characters. They each "jumped the shark" at different times. Cory actually didn't. He kept getting better and better. He started out kind of abnoxious and loud, then he got super-funny by the end. Topanga was funny all the way through, definitely, but I guess she wasn't as good by the very end. Shawn was a really cute kid. But he talked too fast in the beginning and I couldn't understand him sometimes! For the first few years, he was supposed to be kind of dumb. I liked it better later on when he was smarter that Cory. Another thing that happened to Shawn was that he used to have this insane life, but he didn't care! He thought it was normal to have crazy parents. Quote from the fourth season "Marry me! I live in a trailer park and I have no education, but my hair does this! (moves his hair)." I thought it was great how he was just like "so what?" about being poor and having a weird family. Then, when he grows up, he's all whiny about it! He's all "I walked around and pretended that everything was ok, but inside it was tearing me apart." Also, he used to be the ladies' man until Angela came along! I felt like crying when he was on that date with a girl after he and Angela broke up and he can't do anything but mope, and Cory goes "He was the king!" But Rider Strong was always good-looking and funny and a good actor. He had his moments until he grew facial hair. That was when Shawn jumped. I'm not diggin' the beard. It really made me apprieciate his long hair look. That worked better for him. Eric was always funny. He was so good in the graduation episode! But I agree with you all, he got fat and cut his hair and got dumber. He was always great, but he was less great during the 7th season. Angela's character was very inconsistant. She didn't seem to have a definite personality, so I guess she never jumped. First Morgon good, second Morgon bad. (That's an easy one!) Rachel was a dumb idea, but she had some funny moments in the beginning when she was more dopey. Then she got almost smarter that Eric and Jack and she was no longer funny at all. Jack was funny when he was first on the show. I like the scene in which Dean Borak hits Eric's arm and Jack grabs his own arm like "ow"! He used to be a nice, shy boy who got good grades. When did he turn into a rich model who was against charity and was addicted to gambling? He was funny in the episode where Angela leaves, but I wish they hadn't made him the heartthrob. That's when he jumped. Cory's dad was always funny. I love that career day episode! Cory's mom, I never liked. She seemed so mean! She was always making that face that mean teachers make! Mr. Feeny jumped when he started working at Pennbrook. He was the perfect teacher and principal, but college professor? I don't think so. Why couldn't he be Morgon's teacher? The teacher-living-next-door-thing doesn't work when Cory no longer lives next door! That covers all the important people. I just have one more thing to say. Minkus didn't mysteriously vanish. If you watch the last episode before he's gone, Cory and Shawn use all their psycic energy to make him dissappear, remember? And if you don't believe that, he comes back in season 5 and says he was in another part of the school (off-camera, brilliant!). Doesn't it make sense that if Cory and Shawn went to a different school, they would avoid the kid they don't like?
I'm pretty shocked that all the main characters hung in there for that long. What is with Eric? He used to be a normal person who was pretty funny, then he just got dumber and dumber the older he got. Come on, no one is that stupid unless they have a mental condition. Cory must've had the same disease but to a lesser degree. I'm glad, however, that they finally developed Shawn's character with the poetry reading and all that. All the story lines about his dad were kindof boring though. Mr. Turner shoud've hung in there; he was cool. I love the episode when Cory and Shawn are fighting in the hall, and Mr. Turner and that other cool teacher break them up and say "you guys know you were fighting each other?". Also when Feeny catches them in the janitor's closet running the illegal radio show. They freeze, and Shawn whispers, "Maybe... he doesn't... see us." Anyways, I think the Cory/Topanga relationship is pretty stupid and dull, and has anyone ever noticed how annoying Angela is when she puts on her pouty face? I have to give the show credit for acknowledging its own unrealistic nature, like in the episode where they talk about Morgan having been upstairs in her room for months. Overall, a funny show with a few corny plot lines.
Ok, this show went on a little too long, and a lot of your points are valid. But you guys are downright cruel about Topanga's weight. She wasn't fat, she was normal and cute. Not everyone has to be stick thin like the redheaded girl. They both looked cute, they were just different. People like you are the reason why actresses start barfing up their lunch.
Hmm...the whole Shawn & Angela deal. Waaaayy too confusing. And has anybody ever noticed that the classes were only about 10-20 minutes back in the earlier episodes? In some of the later ones, too. I realize shows have a time limit, but either fast-forward time to where he's home, or just skip the scene, but that just annoys me. I love BMW. I do. But it's the small details that bug me. I think the whole "Morgan's first date" deal was stereotypical, cliched, and idiotic. I mean, was that actually supposed to be FUNNY? And Shawn needs to lose the goatee. And Eric needs to grow back his hair. WHAT HAPPENED TO MINKUS!? He was hilarious! I loved his character. And didn't Shawn have a sister, Stacy, that existed for maybe one episode? Come on. Topanga needed to stay weird, even if Cory did fall in love with her. That made the show intersting. I mean, how many shows do you hear the following conversation: *Cory's on the phone* "Hello? Yeah, is Topanga there?" *pause* "Yeah, I mean physically." Weird is cool! Dude, where's Turner? If you absolutely must rip off a good character, at least give and explanation. And the school bullies, Harley, Joey, and Frankie? They had me on the floor, sometimes.
It became unrealistic when Shawn moved in with his mullethead teacher. Something tells me that the Philadelphia School System would not look favorably on an unmarried male living with a teenaged student.
I started watching this show when I was 10 or 11 years old, and now that I'm 20 I still watch re-runs on the Disney Channel whenever I get a chance. It still makes me laugh. Try watching this show after you've been drinking or smoking a little something and it's even better (trust me, watch a couple of episodes while you're blazed and you'll laugh your ass off). I don't know how you people can say Topanga is not one of the most attractive girls to have ever appeared on a sitcom...God she's hot! So what if she's not rail thin? That ****'s not healthy anyway. Yeah the marriage thing was a little weird, but I don't think this show could ever jump. Especially not with great lines, like when Jack walked in to the apartment wearing a red dress and said "I don't want to talk about it," and Eric said "Well I do, you stole that from my closet!" Classic stuff...Boy Meets World will live forever!
This show slowly became worse and worse when they started college. First of all how can they just decide to skip grades? I could possibly see Topanga, but not Shawn or Cory. And how come this show suddenly became a drama? That was what really mad me mad. NOTHING was very funny while they were in college, nothing like when they were in High-Shcool. It became all about messed up relationships. Off and on, off and on, and not just with one, Like three were in relationships like that. It just got old and boring. I think that this show just should have stopped after high-shcool. And one other thing that i disliked, Why did Topanga have to suddenly become normal? It's like in order for us to like her she had to be what they thought of as "normal". I thought she was cool back in the days where she was different from what we were used to, but then they had to mess that up to! Don't get me wrong still loved the show when in High-school.:)
The slow decline of Boy Meets world began around mid high school when the focus was taken off of Corey and put on to Shawn, Angela (drama/emotion queen, boo hiss, this is a comedy), Matthew Lawrence (hah???) and that tall girl. After a while it was a totally different show. Kids are cute. Once they grow up it's over, but for some dreadful reason it just kept going. They should have stayed in sixth grade.
When the 3rd season began and from then on, shark!. It started as a funny sitcom, and became a let's get serious let's all concentrate on Sean Hunter. Also, when the Jurassic Park girl guest-starred. Throw her back on that island and let the T-Rex get her.
With the exception of about ten good episodes and a few clever jokes, the first three years can be chucked. After that it was awesome, but got a tiny bit worse during the last year. And I just gotta say, I liked the inconsistantsies. It gives you something to talk about. Shows that make sense are boring. And they did make a joke about every single one of them. That means that the writers aren't dumb, they're funny and they can make fun of their own mistakes. I also even liked it when Rider Strong had some big dramatic monolouges. It's a guilty pleasure! I mean, no matter what he says, how could you not enjoy listening to him? Life is sometimes funny and sometimes serious and so is Boy Meets World. It was a perfect blend. I like how they dealt with religion. They didn't overdue it, but there was none of this nondenominational liberal crap either. I guarantee you that there is no serious episode that isn't made up for with some of the most hilarious jokes. The serious episodes were some of the funniest! Take "Getting Hitched" for instance. While Jack and Shawn are fighting and upset after their fathers death, Cory, Topanga, Eric, and Rachel are involved in a hilarious plotline, playing the Fiancee Game! Some of the best jokes are in that episode, even though it was serious at the same time. You'll notice that the first couple seasons, when Cory had a few catch phrases and every other line was a corny joke, were too sitcomy. True, it is a sitcom, but it was so special in those later years. Out of all seven years, I've counted five people who were in the hospital. That was perfect! It wasn't like a soap when it's practically every week, but it wasn't like other sitcoms where it's only once or twice if ever. What was it like? It was like real life! Boy Meets World had the perfect balance of hilarity and seriousness. They could have you laughing one minute and crying the next.
B.M.W. jumped when Topanga packed on like 60 pounds. all the wieght she gained over the show happened so rapidly, she went from skinny to Huge. she wore was 6 sizes smaller so it looked like she was huge. But her size doesnt matter. It also jumped when eric wanted to move and Eric still wanted to hang with that little kid.Kinda was depressing
The first girl that played Morgan was cute and funny, and everyone liked her. Then the character disappeared. Some time later, she came back, but it was another girl. Not cute, not funny, and just annoying.
You have bad actors. You have a teacher who hangs out with his students WAY TOO much. Then as the final perversity you get the married 18 year olds that STILL hang out with the creepy old teacher. This is the absolute end of the 90210 mindset "everyone you meet after high school is bad" Only this time it's junior high. Because it seems they skipped high school. It's bad writing and once the writing goes that's it.
Eric was really smart and with it when the show started. By the final season he was a drooling moron that I could not stand to watch. I hope he gets type cast as an idiot for the rest of his days.
Boy Meets World is one of my favorite shows of all time! It was so great to have a show that focused on middle-school-aged kids. Anyway, for now I just have one beef with a lot of these posts: A lot of people are saying that the show jumped when Minkus left or when Topanga became normal. Please! How many of you would actually be friends with someone like them?
Despite being a genius, Minkus (only he would be smart enough to know how to spell his name) didn't get to go on to high school, and eventually, college. Any explanation would have done just fine. Minkus was in prison after holding up a convenience store. Minkus started hitting on Topenga so Cory had to kill him without anyone knowing. Anything. Instead, I have to see him at the Student Union of Wake Forest University in a drunken stupor and beg him to tell me why he left. Whatever.
You people are insane! First of all, name me a show that was exactly the same during it's middle years as it was when it started. All shows evolve as the writers and actors figure out what the hell they're doing with it. And as far as Topanga's weight, what's wrong with you people? She starts out in the 6th grade as a pre-pubescent skinny little girl, then she grew up and got some curves on her. She's like 5 feet tall for christ sake. And I can guarantee you she never weighed more than 105. Stop watching Ally McBeal and learn what a real woman looks like. Topanga was hot.
I think Boy Meets World is an AWESOME show! it is hilarious. Eric is so stupid, but in a funny way! and when Morgan switched, it was funny when she came down the stairs and said, "i've been grounded forever i feel like a different person" the whole show was filled with clever and hilarious jokes and it is the BEST comedy i have ever watched! The best episode was when there was a killer in the school and they were all locked in. My favorite part is when the pencil flew and killed kenny, and Eric screams, "Who killed Kenny?" then they say we will always remember he was this tall! hahha! Boy Meets World was very surprising and eventful. It had good times and bad times, funny times and sad times. my friends and I watch every episode, even now we watch the reruns on Disney! We even cried on the last episode! it was an awesome show and it deserves a lot of credit!
When Cory and Topanga hit puberty. They suddenly went from being cute kids to being grotesque, boring teenagers
They should have taken the show off the air after graduation. Corey gets really stupid. Rachel and Jack suck. Shawn and Angela just need to make up their minds about whether or not they should go out. Mr. Feeny just needs to leave b/c he has been their teacher for way too long. Corey's mom looks about twenty, but is really 40. And then she has another kid. That was just ********! The show should have made a graceful exit after graduation, but instead they kept going and the show went all downhill from there!
This used to be an okay show. When Topanga suddenly became normal it got a little worse but it really got bad when Corey and Topanga started having this extremly romantic relationship. More like extremley fake. Also, when they got older, Eric suddenly became smart and Shawn always wanted a pity party.
OK it jumped at a graduation, probably 6th grade but maybe it held on for dear life till the end of high school. Definitely jumped by the time they got married tho, that was insane.
Eric went >From being just quirky and unconventional(and not that bright) to being a complete and total ******. I'm still looking for the man responsible for Eric's idiotic "Sneak Attack" subplot in "Angela's Men" from the last season so ican beat his ass. Here's another question. Why did Mick Foley show up in that one episode? Basically he served no purpose other than encouraging the girls to beat the crap out of Eric and the Lawerence boy just so they can steal their apartment. Eric first started to win me over in Season 3 and kept building more and more momentum right up until Season 5 where he peaked, "The Witches of Pennbrook was, without a doubt, Eric's best episode. Then in Season 6, Eric to go from hilarious and brilliant to sad and pathetic(though he temporarily jumped back in "The Psychotic Episode") By the last season, the nail was in Eric's coffin, not to mention the rest of the show. The extremely talented Rider Strong(Shawn) should have had the good sense to leave the show when he had the chance in Season 6. Another point worth mentioning was how by Season 6, I absloutly HATED Cory and Topanga with a burning passion. I mean, it was like watching Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt as teenagers. As much as the show blew chunks in it's last two seasons, I can't say the show was a total waste."And Then There Was Shawn",which guest starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, the then girlfriend of Will Friedle(Eric),was pretty kickass. Not to mention any episode with Frankie and Joey(as an ensemble, no solo acts) was really cool. Beyond that, Rest In Peace "Boy Meets World."
The ups and downs of Boy Meets World: Pilot was great. The next few episodes were boring and the show was not developed. The first few with Topanga were adorable, but some things in the very early episodes were corny. The last episodes in season one were a little edgier and Rider Strong got more lines, which was all good. Some episodes of season two were unbelievably funny, but there were a few who were terribly inconsistant with the running plot of the show. The third season was the worst and the best. In the beginning, I was disgusted with the length of everyone's hair, happy to see Cory ask Topanga out, sad to see Morgan gone (well, unnoticed by Cory, anyway), and glad to see that cool, black teacher. The middle of that season sucked with depressing episodes including getting stuck on a subway and having to fish Feeny's watch out of his septic tank. Then Jeff McCracken saved the last few episodes (Life Lessons, I was a Teenage Spy, The Happiest Show on Earth, Brother-Brother...). Cory was finally funny in the 3rd season, but Shawn was too stupid. I liked it better when he was street smart but not book smart. Topanga was leaning back toward hippiesville in season 3 again which just didn't work anymore. Season 4 began with wonderful, wonderful, funny, well-written, well-directed episodes that just got better and better as the season progressed. The ONLY episodes that fell a bit short were Singled Out and Learning to Fly. (Hair Today Goon Tomorrow, Shallow Boy, Janitor Dad, Chick Like Me, and Cult Fiction were out of this world!). Season 5 came along and it started off very funny with episodes like It's Not You It's Me and The Witches of Pennbrook. Shawn and Angela's relationship started off as sweet as can be. The season was good and then Lauren came along to rain on Cory and Topanga's parade. It was sad and dramatic when this happened and I haven't decided if I liked it or not, but I know I got chills when Topanga dumped Cory and again when they got back together. (That artist guy Topanga dated wasn't attractive, he looked gay to me...). The episodes that tied up that season were great! Season 6 starts with a few boring episodes. Better than Average Cory-Santa's Little Helpers was all wonderful! The next two episodes (Cutting the Cord, We'll Have a Good Time Then) were well done, but sad. The rest of the season was great, entertaining, and funny. Season 7 starts out a little more sitcomy than before- a bit more like the first season in that way- but still funny. The episode before the wedding episode was good, but the wedding episode and the honeymoon episode were both bad. Then Cory and his wife come back from the honeymoon and it gets great. It's soooo funny and then we see the shark a little bit ahead of us. Darn, and we were almost to the end, too! Somewhere during the double episode, Shawn obtained a beard and I suddenly didn't like him as much as I used to. Ergo, I can't like the show as much. The episodes from the very boring Seven the Hard Way till the end were still funny, well-done, and unique, but they just weren't quite as good as the others before them. The first episode of the finale was better than the second one. So, that's exactly where it jumped. The War was the last completely good episode. Seven the Hard way marked the small downhill jump.
Despite some boring eps, this show didn't jump. True, it's not the most original idea, and true, it does star a Savage, but it's still good. The earlier eps had Minkus & Weird Topanga, but the later ones had Psycho-Eric, so they balance. (To tell the truth, though, the crazy version of Eric is the funniest character EVER besides NewsRadio's Matthew)
When Corey and Topanga decided they loved each other so frick-ass much and had to get married. And they played all those soppy flash-backs and acted like they'd loved each other since they were tiny, when really they hated each other when they were young. And doesn't anyone else think they were a little young to get hitched? Fricken hicks!
Boy Meets World began to suck after the wedding but before that Shawn had a sister in an episode and she was never mentioned again let alone seen. Then Eric goes from a not so bright ladies man to an idiot who couldnt get any girl. Topanga also had an older sister who was never mentioned, seen, or even invited to the wedding I'm guessing. And what are the odds that a bunch of girls are going to be attracted to the uglyness of Cory. How did Shawn suddenly go from Mr. Tough Guy to Mr. Sensitive? Why did Minkus and Mr. Turner suddenly dissapear? How did Cory and Topanga go from hating eachother to falling madly in love. How does Mr. Feeny manage to always be the teacher? And when did Eric suddenly treasure Mr. Fenny and call him his mentor? This show had too confusing of story lines, they tried to re-write history as if no one would notice and caused the show to get confussing. And Cory, Shawn, and Topanga some how end up doing every thing together even getting on a high school intelligence game show and Mr. Feeny always knows what to do when a character has a "crisis" it would be nice to see him have a "crisis" once in a while. Other than that the show was fine.
BOY MEETS WORLD IS THE GREATEST SHOW EVER MADE! ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE HILARIOUS, AND THE STORY LINES KIND OF GET OLD BECUSE YOU HEAR THEM ALL THE TIME, BUT STILL COREY, TOPENGA, ERIC, JACK, SHAWN, ANGELA, AND RACHEL ARE ALL GREAT TOGETHER, AND IT'S EVEN FUNNIER WITH MR. FEENEY! BUT I THINK THE BEST CHARACTER IS ERIC. ESPECIALLY WHEN HE SAYS, "FEENY! FEE HE HE EENEY! I LOVE THAT KID!!!!!!! I THINK THAT IT IS THE COOLEST THING THAT COREY AND TOPENGA GOT MARRIED! I MEAN IT ISN'T LIKE A STUPID SOAP OPERA WHERE EVERYONE HAS TO BE PISSED ABOUT EVERYTHING! SO ONCE AGAIN I LOVE THIS SHOW! AND ANYBODY THAT DOESN'T CAN GO DROWN THEMSELVES!!!!!!!!
BMW was entertaining for its entire run, despite inconsistencies in the story line and some of the characters acting stupid. But so what? It's only television. I would agree, though, with the comment about the Corey character becoming an old Yiddish man. That was a little puzzling.
This show is great. Granted, there are a few quirks, but it's still a fun show. First of all, who cares if the show doesn't follow time exactly! Ohmigosh, does it have to show all 365 days of each year? There are lots of shows where no one ages at all. Second of all, it doesnt really matter if Topanga and Corey used to hate each other. Lots of kids hate eachother before they fall in love. Yeah, though, I do think their whole relationship is a bit unrealistic, and it was so sad when Topanga cut her hair off and lost her whole funky personality. Other than that, the show rocks, and the quirks are so small, that they don't even matter to me.
OK, the wedding episode was absolutely stupid. If that was my wedding (especially with my "life long sweetheart" I would absolutely cry! When I was watching it, I thought it was a dream sequence or something! Why the hell did they screw it up with Eric having them use someone else's wedding (or whatever it was he did, I really didn't get it!) They didn't even use the right names during the ceremony. Plus, Cory had to STOP the wedding to ask Shawn's approval....couldn't he have done this the day before or something? This show blew before, but this ultimately slaughtered it!!!
"Boy Meets World" was never really any good. The first few seasons relied too heavily on unrealistic plots and cheap gags having little or nothing to do with the scene. Corey was hyper, Eric was a full-of-himself twit, Shawn was an idiot, Topanga was outright strange, Minkis was unneccesary, Feeney was unestablished, and Morgan was only good for "aw, how cute" jokes. The later seasons were not much better, as the show just plain switched hemispheres to drama. What little comedy remained was wasted on out-of-the-blue sight gags. Now Corey was oversensitive, Shawn was overemotional, Eric was an idiot, Topanga was indecisive, Feeney was only used for advice, Morgan was maturing way too quickly, Angela was on the same level as Topanga, Rachel was not needed, and Jack was too sappy. Not only this, but characters occasionally entered and exited these roles as they pleased, causing much confusion on my behalf. I really don't like the show anyway, and was actually somewhat glad to see it go - figures it got bumped to Disney after ABC canned it.
When the show was taken to college, it lost every ounce of charm it had once possessed. The characters became stupid and obnoxious, and all the endearing qualities of the show flew right out the window. Another example of producers not knowing when to let a show die a dignified death. Please, someone let them know not to bleed them dry like that!
I don't think the show boy meets world ever jumped the shark. I had not seen the show from the beginning, I started watching it when I was a freshman in high school and the show had begun with the college episodes. When I started seeing re-runs I liked it a lot because I learned a lot of stuff from cory's stupid mistakes. It taught me a lot, especially about dating. I would have still watched it if they had not cancelled it, it is my favorite show and I wil always be a loyal fan of boy meets world. I think you people were being ridiculous about your comments with topanga gettign normal as a bad thing. I like her better that way. and so what if minkus left, he comes back in the graduation episode. what ever happened to turner? and what happened to the black teacher? i thought he was cool. those are my main complaints on the plot, all in all I think they did a great job with the plot. but i do have some complaints with the characters. cory was cool up until he started to act somewhat gay with his friendship with shawn and they made such a big deal about it. like in the wedding when shawn stood there with him during the vows that was ********. other than that i liked cory. same thing with shawn he was cool except for that thing with the friendship. i dont have any major complaints with feeny except for when he hooked up with the dean, what the heck was up with that? i found that strange. eric shouldn't have beciome stupid, he was so cool in the first season. cory's parents were rather annoying in the last seasons. and why is everyone dissing the girl who played morgan? not only is she hot but she is a godo actress. lay off of her please!. jack was cool i dont have any real complaints with him. angela and rachel were both pretty pointless, sorry to those of you who liked them. i think thats every character. even though i had some negative thoughts, this is still and always will be my favorite show. it sucks that it had to end.
I never noticed the change of actresses for the part of Morgan? What's everyone talking about? I think Topenga's source of weirdness was in her hair that she hacked off.. Shawn got really ugly and whoever said he looks like the Joker is right.. I never understood where Cory was in his life.. first he was an average 6th grader, than he was a nerdy sidekick to Shawn, then he became a little more rascally but still a nerd.. he returned to his nerd state in the end of high school and much too sensitive and then began a strange life of extremely flaming moments in college making us think twice about his relationship with Shawn.. (which would have added an interesting twist to the college years.. but in the gray area the writers kept it, it just made you wonder if he was going to break Pangey's heart some day). I thought the relationship between Angela and Shawn was ridiculous and just shouldn't have happened.. I also thought Jack and Rachel were very unnecessary, and that apartment had so many different people living in it, it made my head spin.. I also hated the fact that problems alternated between couples or individuals ever other episode.. One scene out of the whole series I particularly despise is the one where Chet, Shawn and Jack's father, just died and they are going through his trailer.. In the scene Shawn finds out that Jack's stepdad helped pay for his college tuition and Shawn flips out with his "poor me, nothing belongs to me" monologue.. Eric did also get mind-numbingly stupid and how he graduated from college is beyond me.. Also, I never understood what was up with all the timewarp scenes.. just recently I saw the one where Topenga goes through a vortex continuum or whatever it was called and goes to "Shangrela" (forgive me if I butchered the spelling).. although I found them an interested way to solve Cory and Topenga's problems with eachother.. I just didn't understand them.. Maybe they're just to deep for a simpleton like I. All in all, I still tune in to Boy Meets World whenever it's on Disney for I grew up with it and I will probably shamelessly watch it up until it goes on Nick at Nite or TV Land in 10-20 years. The End.
This show jumped the shark when Mr. Turner found out that it was no longer 1985 got rid of his sexy 80s curly long hair :). He didn't look good with the short cut. I did however, like Thomas Haden Church as Ned Dorsey's comment about taping "A Very Special Episode Of Boy Meets World" in the "Bed" episode of "Ned and Stacey". When Ned Dorsey starts watching BMW, you know it's past it's prime.
You guys are so dumb! "Duh, Topanga and Cory didn't like each other in sixth grade." Yes they did! You have to look a little deeper. You all say that Minkus and Topanga were in love. No they weren't! Minkus did have a crush on Topanga, but Topanga NEVER liked him back. She had a crush on Eric once, but she mostly liked Cory. She always said how nice he was and that she could see that he was different, even though he tried to fit in. Cory did seem to like her. He only teased her sometimes because it was uncool to like her group of "different" friends. As soon as seventh grade started and there was pressure to date, Cory started to openly like Topanga, and she began to dress a little more normally and fit in more while still keeping the values and beliefs her parents taught her. Another dumb thing people say "Duh, [fill in a character's name] DISAPPEARED!" No one "disappeared!" Trust me, I've seen at least 154 of the episodes several times and I'm positive that no one just vanished. For example, Frankie mentioned that he had a sister (I think it was in "The Uninvited"). In the episodes that followed, he had a little brother, but they never showed his sister. You dummies would say, "Frankie's sister DISAPPEARED!" The truth is that she was older. On Thanksgiving, Frankie and his brother and their guests sat at the outdoor "kids' table" while his adult sister and his parents were inside the trailer. You see? If every person has to either be in every episode or have their absence explained, the audience would feel pretty stupid. I mean, how many of you hang out with every one of your family members and friends EVERY DAY?! You have to look DEEPER. Mr. Turner obviously either died or was permanently handicapped and unable to teach after the accident in "Cult Fiction." They didn't come out and say it in case the actor wanted to come back. You just have to assume some things. Like when Shawn's mother left again (probably during the summer before senior year). They didn't show it, but they implied it later. That shouldn't be too confusing. Eric didn't get dumber. When you're a little kid with an older brother, you think your brother is cool and popular no matter what. All Cory saw was a cool teenager who got all the girls and had good hair and a nice smile. They kept hinting that he was really kind of dopey. As Cory grew up, he got more self confidence and stopped being jealous of his brother. Pretty soon, he realized he was smarter than Eric. At the very end, Eric seemed almost ********. He wasn't really that dumb, it was all about how Cory saw him. It was the same idea with the other characters like Shawn. It's all about how Cory saw him. In season 1, Shawn was Cory's best friend. There was no need to mention that he lived in a trailer until it began to affect his social status when high school started. When Shawn finished high school, he stopped being as badly behaved as he was as a kid. It's called maturing. Also, the bad stuff that happened to his family began to really affect him. Cory felt sorry for Shawn, and that's why Shawn's problems were shown so much. Boy Meets World was life through Cory's eyes. If he doesn't look at his sister for three months, neither do we. And what's up with your little "skipping years" complaint? Season 1 was 6th grade. Most of season 2 was 7th grade. The last two episodes of season 2 were 8th grade. The next year was 9th grade. Season 4 had some episodes of 10 grade and some from 11th (they seemed to be 15 but in 11th grade). Then it was senior year in season 5. Season 6 was freshmen college year. Season 7 was their second year of college until episode 152 when it jumped ahead another year or two. GOT THAT? Also, it doesn't matter if they switch actors for a minor character or use the same actor for two minor characters. It shouldn't upset you that much. The only time there was no Morgan was when Cory first started dating Topanga until they broke up. He was to busy with his gf to notice his baby sister! Ok, I could go on justifying every plot twist that you think was a mistake, but I want to just skip to the jumping thing. Around season 4, the show changed a lot because the characters were growing up. But it didn't get worse by any means! It got A LOT better! The absolute best time was from the last few episodes of season 3 until the finale of season 6. But I still loved the Cory jokes in the last season. I think Eric was funny even though they could have kept him a little smarter, so I liked the show all the way through the last episode—it never jumped!
Show jumped when all the episodes started containing serious life messages instead of simple, plain humor. The only thing that got better, actually, is Eric, who went from hot, slightly stupid older bro to even hotter, totally funny, almost central character. BTW, Topanga is named for Topanga Canyon in Los Angeles, which used to be a big hippie hang out. Get it--she was all funky and fringe at first? And did any of you Angelenos catch the "future" episode where Cory and Topanga are at Feeny's retirement party showing off pictures of their baby girl, Beverly Glen? Beverly Glen, Topanga Canyon. I got a laugh out of it.
We don't understand how Cory can say to his wife that he has loved her since the day they met on the monkey bars, yet he made fun of her throught out intermediate school!! It just doesn't make sense!
I really liked this show a lot, but there were some things that really bugged me. The fact that they skipped grades in high school, for one. Then that supposedly Topanga and Corey loved eachother forever, when he obviously hated her in 6th grade. (However, this was slightly explained once when Corey said something like "I'd like to call those the 'lost years'" or something). Also, the relationship just wasn't very believable to me. Corey got less and less funny as he grew up, but he had his moments. My favorite character was Eric, who got funnier as the show went on. What a riot. I loved that guy. All in all, it was okay, but I am sure bored of all the re-runs on Disney channel.
The show entered the downward spiral as soon as the Corey/Topanga mushy feelings started. The shark was jumped right there....although, on my gripe list, that's only slightly above: MAJOR continuity problems, Mr. Feeny's constant presence, the marriage, Morgan's "lost years," over-againg the characters, the changing of the theme song (the newer one sucks SO MUCH--worst theme song ever)...the list gos on and on and on. I truly loved this show until, well, it jumped.
When even I began to notice the discrepancies in the characters and their histories. Like Topanga's multiple father-actors. And the fact that when Shawn meets Cory for the first time (in a flashback), Cory says he lives in a trailer park. But when Shawn goes back to his old neighborhood, Cory says "I haven't been here since you moved to the trailer park." Yeah.
Overall the show was filled with funny one liners. I think when a sitcom is put out there, its not really supposed to make sense and follow any specific life lines like some people want it to. It's TV for goodness sakes!! But I think this show's downfall was near the end when they obviously started running out of funny material. Cory and Shawn's 'near gay experience' was funny but got a little old. Everyone knew they weren't really gay. Topanga's role to be the bitz, in order to come back and say, 'Ok, maybe I was wrong' was just annoying. I hated Lauren in the few episodes where she tried to steal Cory away. I didn't like Rachel all that much, and Angela just never quite fit in. Not because she was black, but because she thought she was so pretty and all that and she wasn't. Shawn deserved someone better. She was too skinny. What was the deal with her squinting her eyes to try and have those soft dreamy bedroom eyes??? Sorry Angela, it never worked!! It only made her look more ugggllyyyy! I wish they would've portrayed Jack in a better way, he had so much potential on that show. His role started out fine, then he came off as just a pretty boy. My favorite episode is 'Shallow Boy'!! Eric cracks me up!! And the one where all the men did that dance up on stage!! That was hilarious! I thought when Alan and Amy had the new baby it was pointless. I thought it was gonna go somewhere and possibly start a spinoff with the new baby, but it went nowhere
"What kind of name is Topanga?" someone asked. Three answers. 1- It is a hippie name. Hippies gave their children whimsical unorthodox names in hopes they would grow up to be free spirits. Real life examples: China Slick, america Hoffman, Moon Unit Zappa. TV examples: Dharma Finklestien, Alex Pee Keaton. Used as TV writer shorthand to imply a "free spirit" personality. 2- It is a California name. See also Randy California, Kenny Laguna, George San Francisco and Biff Malibu. Again, implies a certain lighthearted personality type. 3- It is a subliminally sexy name. First syllable Top (womans blouse, dominant female), first and last letters T&A, and it's not exactly an acronym or a Spoonerism, but a dyslexic malapropism. (To pang, poo' tang - get it?)
When they all graduated from high school. after that the show just got worse. it was really boring, and had no point.
This show never jumped. In fact, I think it's one of the best shows ever released. From the end of season 3-the end of season 6 was pure brilliance. I can't believe some of you say the show jumped at graduation! The season after graduation (6) was one of the best! I agree with the poster several messages above me. Some of you people are complaining about stuff that shouldn't need to be complained about. I have seen nearly every one of this series episodes, and this show never jumped.
This was one of the greatest shows of all time next to the Wonder years and All in the Family. It never jumped the shark, but here are a few poor choices for the show: Angela was a bad choice for Shawn because she wasn't as pretty as she thought she was, she was downright ugly. Eric was smart and then stupid and kept switching between the two. And what was up with him singing during the graduation? Also, Mr. Feeny should have retired and left it at that, not joining them at college. What was up with the fat guy, the wrestler's son(Frankie?) He was not a good character. Also, Topanga? What kind of name is that? Danielle Fishel is one of the hottest girls in show business! What ever happened to her? I liked the way the show dealt with issues teens deal with. That made the show good, the seriousness at times. Other than these things I mentioned, great show! I watched every episode when it originally aired on TGIF.
Boy Meets World totally jumped when Turner diaasapered. I mean, whats up with that? He just dissappers without a trace and you never see him again and they never talk about him either. I think the show would have been so much better after graduation if when tey were in collage Turner and Melissa and shawns other brother would have shown up peridically to see whats happned. But NO it had to become a drama. And Cory just becaomes such a NUT it makes me SO mad what the writers did to the show.I have so many complaints about the show but ironically stil love it.
This show was really funny at times(Eric scenes). But it had no continuity whatsoever and really made no sense when you watched the whole series. it was like each season was a totally different show. Eric got funnier and stupider on the outside as the show went on but on the inside it was like he got smarter. Very confusing. What ever happened to the first actress who played Morgan? She was gone for like, what, 3 years, before a different(and annoying) actress replaced her. And whatever happened to Shawn's other half-brother who lived in the trailer park? In the graduation episode we saw Minkus and those lackies whose names I can't remember and Minkus mentioned that Turner was still alive and obciously still teaching. Watch this episode again. When Corey and Shawn are talking to Minkus they ask where he's been all these years and he points in the area of the camera and they say, "Oh we don't go there." Then Minkus says, "Oh, Mr. Turner wait up." and walks down the invisible hallway. It was like this show was parodying itself. Rachel was a very pointless and stupid. So was Angela, but she was slightly more tolerant than Rachel until they had all those sappy storylines with her and Shawn. And when we found out she was sleeping with him. It never came directly out and said it, but in the episode where he was living in the apartment with her and Rachel after Topanga married Corey. They say they're "just playing house" and when they visit Topanga and Corey, Corey says that what they are doing is sin. ANd when did Shawn become this artsy poet type? The whole show was confusing! And by the way, to everyone who said that Topanga was fat, I disagree. Everyone I know who watched the show, male or female, thinks Topanga was the hottest girl on it. She may have been hot, but after a while she got very annoying. SO did everyone else except Eric.
At some point (I think soon after Cory and Shaun entered college) the characters became simple and predictable. Cory and Topanga were like an old married couple and they didn't deal with real issues or conflicts. Also Eric became too dumb. Previously he came off as definitely dumb but with moments of at least some personality and brain activity...he was entertaining in his airheadedness but at some point he went over the edge of stupidity. I always liked Shaun's character, he had depth and growth over the years...I think they should have put him and Topanga together in the end. Some of the best storylines were the times when Cory and Topanga had troubles, when they broke up after the party and then when Cory spent that time with Lauren at the ski lodge and it seemed like something could have started with them.
After Cory had the affair with Lauren at the ski lodge and consequently broke up with Topanga, the show stopped being funny and started being a soap opera.
The show was really funny when it first started. I thought Ben Savage was great as a wisecracking 11 year old sixth grader. Then suddenly, and it was after him and Topanga started going out, that the show just went to ****. It just wasn´t funny anymore. Plus, the character Corey went from a wisecracking slacker to a serious, nice boy image. It would be foolish to say that this show jumped the shark when he hit puberty, because that was really the whole point of the show. It´s just that his personality changed too much, to the point where every episode one had one or two funny lines, and every episode became a very special episode. They all grew up way too fast.
Ok what is up with all the BS about the show being "infantile", "sexist", or "crap"? This show never jumped at one single point and considering such garbage of today as "Charmed" and "Will And Grace", any parent would do well to let their child watch Boy Meets World. And Cory and Topanga made a sweet couple despite all the fuddy-duddy pundits and their nonsensical banter saying otherwise.
This show was great in its first 2 seasons. When Shawn Hunter kept on having problems and Corey always had to help him, then he moved in with Mr Turner-thats when it started to get really bad. Everything about Shawns character was flawed, i can remember he had an older sister in the episode where corey grew all that hair, then he had a brother in a trailor park gang, but they werre both forgotten about and Jack was his only sibling in the end. Topenga was also flawed in that same way, but when every episode became about Coreys dealing with problems with either shawn or Topenga, thats when it got lame. Eric Matthews saved the show and is the only reason I watch the later episodes. Will Friedle is a comic genius!
I am a huge fan of BMW but I was awfully little when it was originally on ABC, so I saw only the re-runs on Disney Channel. I want to respond to some posters who think that BMW jumped the shark when they added another baby. Just for your information, the actress Betsy Randle, who plays Amy Matthews on the show GOT PREGNANT IN REAL LIFE! So they decided to add another Matthews child. It wasn't really supposed to be part of the plotline. Besides, the kid never appeared except for about one episode when he was born early and the very last episode when he's like 2. So quit complaining about the new baby!
I only saw this show a few times but in every episode I saw there seemed to be a subtle gay undercurrent to the relationship between the two buddies. The series finale should have been something along the lines of _Y Tu Mama Tambien_.
I don't know if there was one exact point that it actually jumped, but there was a gradual decline. The show was always funny to me, but there were a couple of things I didn't like. For one, Cory became such an idiot in the later episodes, and Eric went from a somewhat slow, girl-crazed teen to having (i liked what someone else said) "the IQ of a napkin". Then there was the reinventing history of how Cory and Topanga had ALWAYS loved each other (the zoo episode), when in reality they couldn't stand each other. Then, how Topanga went from this environmental, new age freak to a normal teenager in ONE SUMMER! And then when they didn't tell us what happened to Mr. Turner and Minkus. But I do have to say that it was creative and hilarious when they made fun of their own mistakes or stuff that happened in real life. Like in the graduation episode, Minkus was revived and in the ceremony and when Shawn and Cory asked where he was, he said something like "Oh, I've been in Mr. Turner's class...over there.", pointing to the other side of the hallway in the highschool that we never see. And then Shawn and Cory go, "Oh we don't go over there." :) Then, if you remember they switched "Boy Meets World" from 8:30 to 9:00 and they had a babysitting episode, where the kid wanted to watch "Boy Meets World", but his bedtime was 8:30. And Cory was freaking out, asking "Well, why would they change it?" And the kid, in his "innnocent" little voice, "No-one knows!" :) That was hilarious and then the whole, "Kid Gets Aquainted With Universe" spoof. I thought that was very creative. So, I guess I would say that there were some things that I didn't like, mainly character probs, but some I did.
Boy Meets World never jumped. It is a great show. I love to watch the re-runs. Somthing is learned in every show and it has a comic twist. I laugh real hard every time I watch the show. How Cory is so cautious, Shawn is so risk taking, Topanga is so reasonable, and Eric is stupid. The perfect combination for a good laugh.
it jumped, but, it was funny, even through the end. what was so bad about eric getting dumber, i thought he got more funny. and, topanga didnt get fat, she got fuller, she still had some really sexy legs, and a very cute face. i was actually pissed when the show went off, cuz i knew that after that, i wouldnt be able to follow what danielle fishel(topanga) was doing in real life anymore. heh, what happened to topanga's best friend, trini? she just up and disappeared, which, was good, cuz she was annoying. i liked when topanga became a regular teen, cuz she seriously got gorgeous. however, they shouldve made it where she was still on the weird side, like they did in the one valentines day episode in the second last season, where she puts lipstick all over her face. good show
I don't see why everyone finds the fact that Corey and Topanga "suddenly" became an item after hating each other when they were younger. There is one young couple of my acquaintance who detested each other while growing up, who eventually fell in love and married and are now expecting their first child. It is not that improbable. Also, Topanga was never "huge". She is a little busty for a petite girl but she was never heavy. I see plenty of women with extra pounds with a man in tow, and I also know plenty of single, slim women who are not lesbian and who do not have a man (myself included). "Topanga" is just fortunate enough to have someone who sees more than just her body and loves the person she is. I wouldn't want a man who only loved my appearance, because once that hourglass shape shifts and the sand has moved, I don't want to be left in the lurch while he goes to find a new hourglass. Capische?
This show totally jumped during season 5...it wasn't a normal high school comedy anymore, it was now...Boy Meets All My Children. Shawn's half-brother Jack...where did that come from?! (Although I must admit...Matthew Lawrence=Major Fox!) Alan and Amy having another baby...it just got worse and worse from there!
I do love this show. and I would say it never jumped the shark, but I bypass reruns of BMW for Cheers anymore, and for one main reason: The whole cast, but specifically Shawn, started developing overactive drama glands around puberty. Shawn was originally the cool sidekick. The one who got the girls and didn't care as much about school and stuff. But then all of a sudden he decided that he was deep and disturbed. If I had a dollar for every time that kid had the "my world is crashing in on me" face, I could buy ABC. The episode that he joined that cult was a prime example, I about puked. Also, Topanga should have never gotten unweird, and again, never should have gotten unskinny. I'd still mess around with her, cause she's gorgeous, but more and more, she started to put the gorge in gorgeous.
I have to say that the shark jumped with the addition of Kimberly to the cast. "Student Teacher"? I didn't know they allowed fourth-graders to teach high school. And that pseudo-bitchy slamming the seating chart in front of that girl, causing her hair to flutter in front of her face...that's contrived drama if I've ever seen it. And I'm not saying that's the first time Boston Public has done contrived drama, either. Here's another bit of contrived drama they can try. Have MidolMarla or Mr. Lipschultz shove Kimberly down an elevator shaft. It "worked" on L.A. Law.
I'm going to say it never jumped. When it was on, "Boy Meets World" was my absolute favorite show. Like Cory, Shawn, and Topanga, I was actually in the 6th grade when the show premiered, and I feel like I literally grew up with them. I never really noticed how fast they aged. They were the same age as I was when the show first started, but they graduated in what, 1998, while I graduated in 2000. Still, for 7 years, I always knew Friday nights meant that, among other things, I could look forward to "Boy Meets World". What's not to love? It was so funny! Cory was hilarious, Shawn was cool, and Eric was hilariously funny. As the show went on, I thought Cory got cute, and Eric morphed into a man of indescribable sexiness and hotness (I loved his gorgeous long hair!). But I always loved Shawn. I loved his hair! I just loved the way it fell into his beautiful eyes, and I hated it when he cut it. But Rider Strong still was, and always will be, absolutely gorgeous! Every time I watch the show, I'm just dying to kiss those pouty lips! As for the people dissing Topanga for being "fat": you don't know what the hell you're talking about! Maybe you like the type of woman who could hide behind a flagpole, but not everyone feels the same way you do. Danielle Fishel is absolutely gorgeous. Hell, I'm a (straight) girl, and even I thought she was hot!!!
Although I was nearly out of High School when this show started I thought this show was a cute idea. But then I graduated and moved and lost track of it. I am a nite owl and I started watching this show resently on the Disney channel. How can you not miss it...it's on every hour. Anyway I saw how Shawn met and started dating what's her face. I saw how Cory and Tapanga got married. I saw how Eric continued to be...well ERIC. I think the show should have stopped the moment they graduated or when Ben Savage got uglier and uglier like his brother Fred did on the Wonder Years. I started to lose it when Shawn and his girlfriend broke up and neither one would admit to their true feelings. I guess it lost it's charm when they went out into the real world.
When Corey grew up and his whole life centered around Topenga. He needs to GET A LIFE!!! The rest of BMW was about love. But his love was very blinded. For example, in one episode he had a new baby brother who was on the verges of death!!! And all he could think about was why Topenga wasn't the way she used to be. I believe the show tried to explain that he needed her hope, but in reality, Corey wasn't in reality. He needs to see that there is more to his life than that girl. I mean look what happened after they got married, he didn't even think through about what comes after marriage and all he did was justify his relationship with Topenga by saying that they were "in love". He needs to Get A LIFE!!!
This show never jumped. All of the episodes are hilarious and the dramatic ones are really touching if you think about it. And if somebody gains weight, then why does a show JTS? That makes no sense.
Topanga started out the show as a brilliant student and an independent thinker. I liked her. By the end of the series, she's turned into an overstuffed Valley Girl who chortles on her honeymoon about being "Mrs. Corey Matthews." What happened to our fiesty, independent Topanga? Was there an episode where she had a lobotomy?
It never jumped the shark. The characters grew, the plots changed, just like any other TV show. And did anyone else notice that most of the negative comments appeared to be written by illiterate high school dropouts? The educated responses were the positive ones. So maybe this show really did have some value.....Anyway, I didn't start watching it until the last season on ABC, but I watch the reruns all the time. Plot flaws and character inconsistencies do not count as jumping the shark. Those things are just a part of television. Besides, the writers covered up their mistakes quite well.
Even though I like this show, it has jumped many times. 1)Cory and Topanga start going out, even though they hated each other all their life. 2)Cory's parents have another baby. 3) They changed Morgan's actor. 4)Cory and Topanga, and Shawn and Angela kepp breaking up, then getting back together, then breaking up, then getting back together again...sorta gets old. 5)They started skipping grades...at the beginning of the show they Cory and Shawn were about 12 or 13, but at the end they were 19, in their second year of college already! They should have just started their first year when they were 19! 6)Has anyone seen Mr Turner around? I liked that guy. Speaking of that, what ever happened to Mincus? I thought that him and Mr Turner were both funny. 7) Cory and Topanga get married. I think they were only about 19 at the time. 8) Some different people joined the cast. Even though i think the show jumped this way, thats what happens when you go to different schools. You make new friends. So I'm not sure about that one. 9) At first, the show was about Cory and his typical family (in the first season), but as the show went on, all it talked about was Cory and Shawn's love life! I didn't really like the show when they were in High School. Just Middle School and College. Some people may think it jumped when Eric got stupider, but I think that just made the show even funnier. This show jumped many times, but all in all, it was a pretty good show.
This show is the all-time CHAMPeeeeeeen! You betta' RECOGNIZE! No way is there another show that has 'snuck-in' more of those killer 'special' episodes, teaching us all what we so desperately don't (I sayz don't, as in do not) want to learn. This show was so wonderfully whimsical in the beginning, and one day (otherwise known as season 4) it got hit with a morality attack that it couldn't stop, not unlike Growing Pains, another formerly charming show, till Kirk found God (Note: God doesn't translate well to sitcoms).
Boy Meets World jumped Mr.Turner was injured in a motorcycle acident--he had't even made an appearance in years. And again when Corey's baby brother was born prematurely, and they thought he might die. Boy Meets World always had a melodramatic streak, and that's fine. But it was supposed to be a comedy first and a drama second, and some later episodes totally disregarded that.
Boy Meets World jumped the shark when it wasn't funny anymore. I had watched the show from the beginning, but had stopped the season before Cory and Topanga got together. I started watching it again the season they were seniors. It started getting very painful to watch after she proposed to him on graduation. Now watching it on Disney, I don't know how I made it that long. Can we all agree that Cory just started talking too much? He got very annoying and very selfish, like the episode when his mother had the fourth baby and all he could talk about was how he and Topanga should have spent Valentine's Day together? I mean, come on. He became a character that you hated. And someone earlier said that no one ever mentioned Angela was black. What about the episode when she said she and Cory had never really been friends, and Cory said that he and Angela learned how Stella Got Her Groove Back? Although it was a terrible joke, it does prove that they acknowledged she was black (like Cory would have made that joke to his mother or Feeny any season before Angela was on there). Bottom line--it got too serious (any episode about Shawn, the fourth child being sick), there was too much Cory and Topanga (anytime anyone says those two had been together their whole lives, I felt like I could have smacked somebody, namely Cory). Yes, Eric got more stupid, but his being stupid was the only thing that saved the show, and is really the only reason why I still watch it now. The last episode should have really been the one where Cory and Topanga got married and were going to stay on that beach. Eric was stalking them for some reason. What the producers should have done was make a spin-off about Eric--leave Cory and Topanga on the beach, have Eric fly back home, and just continue with him and the rest of the family.
Okay, yes there were holes in the plot of Boy Meets World, and those holes still were never really ever sewed together. But the thing about Boy Meets World that makes it special with me is that the characters on the TV show were (almost) always going through the exact same thing that I was at the time, and the show helped me realize that I am not the only one that goes through those things. Granted, towards the end, some of the things on the show did start to really get old like the whole Cory and Topanga thing over and over again, and again with Shawn and Angela thing began to come way too repetative, but the show was always good. Even if they did have the same stuff over and over again, it always kept my attention. And the series finale was probably one of the best finales I have ever seen. Some of the shows of Boy Meets World were also very touching, like the one where Cory tells Topanaga he loves her for the first time, or the time that Cory and Topanga slept in school during a project where they were suppossed to be talking about sex, or Cory and Topanga's first kiss. Those were all things that anyone could go through at any given time in their childhood. I think deep down inside, everyone wanted a love like Cory and Topanga had, they always seemed so right for each other, even if they were fighting, like they really were meant to be together forever. I think that they got married at too young of an age and that kind of tore apart the show, but everyone knew that no matter how much they fought, they were always gonna be together. Well, that's my 2 cents....
Personally, I despised season 1 when they were kids. They acted so corny and cheesy! I also didn't like how Eric was first this cool babe-magnet and then they changed him into some idiotic dimwit who was the jokes guy in the show. But everything else in the show was cool. Anyone agree that Shawn, Corey, and Eric got much hotter in the college season?!
Slowly but surely it changed from a good family sitcom to almost complete crap. Soon it was all about who's sleeping with who and stuff like that. Just replace the "celebrated sex-tet" with these 7 posers and you have an exact replica. Don't get me wrong, I love BMW (and Friends)but like I said before, they took something innovative and turned it into mindless crap.
It's a given that Shawn and Cory were lifelong pals, but there came a point when they seemed more like a couple. Were Topanga and Angela merely "beards"?
I think boy meets world is a smart and funny show and ithink it teaches you important facts of life they should make new episodes about kory and the gang living in new york. And if some one thinks this show is stupid it's wrong big time becouse it's a great show and the people that made this show posible should be3 proud of themselves for what they accomplish.
Yeah, it totally changed style as the years progressed, Corey became too annoying, and Shaun was always bitching about how no one loved him. But Eric and the unescapable Mr. Finney were always good.
The episode where Sean joins this cult called "the center" where everyone gets to hang around and play video games. There is a big standoff between Sean and Corey's family and Feeny. In the end, Sean learns that he doesn't need a cult to be loved or some bull**** like that, even though it was the lamest cult ever. This episode was made during the two weeks that cults were an en-vogue thing to worry about if you were a bad parent.
Sometime during the 1998 season, the show somehow magically turned from a comedy to a drama nearly overnight. The last great episode was the one where they have to find superbowl tickets or fail, and they sit on the billboard singing "we are warm and you are cold..." For me the show jumped the shark soon after that, and for some unknown reason survived two more seasons after which it got bad beyond all recognition. When it started out, it was a cute and funny show, but all of a sudden when Cory meet's Lauren at the ski lodge it becomes a soap opera, and it went down hill from there.
BMW never "jumped the shark," it just evolved, and that was the entire point of the show. Cory, Topanga, Shawn and Eric are just like typical kids. To anyone posting here, if you are 16 or 20, are you the same now as you were when you were 11? I doubt it, people change and evolve based on their experiences, as they "meet the world." The reason that Mr. Feeny and Cory's parents stayed the same was because they are adults, and adults do not change as much as children do between 11 (6th grade) and college. Also, I agree with the posting commenting that the show was Cory's view of the world...that makes perfect sense because it would also explain the evolution of the main characters. For example, a boy (Cory) views his brother (Eric) very differently in 6th grade and as a college student, that makes perfect sense. On a final note, anyone who has complained about Eric does not realize that it was the Eric character and Will Friedle's comic ability that PREVENTED the show from jumping the shark...without Eric this show wouldn't have been a true comedy, he was by far the best character and had some truely memorable episodes (dumb or not, who cares).
That murder episode where Jennifer Love Hewitt guest-starred as "Jennifer Love Pfefferman". I think that she is one of the worst actors in the history of the planet. And that whole episode was just strange and out of the blue anyway...
The show jumped when it went from middle school to high school. Remember the nerd from the very beginning? Man, what happened to him? He was so cute. And what the hell happened with Topanga. She went from being funny to being just like every blond girl I went to school with. That's not fun.
It ROCKED when they were in High school, then it turned into a soap opera with Topanga/Corey and Shawn/Angela etc...Eric rocked! One dimensional, but often funny as hell. And Feeny following them into college seemed a little ridiculous.
I like what the above poster had to say about Corey's changing perceptions of others, but it doesn't explain the fact that Corey grew up way too fast! The show started when I was ll but I think the kid who played Corey was 13 playing an 11 year old. Why didn't they just make him 13? Not that hard! Also, Topanga in the first season was a little too weird to become normalized in the second season. I understand that they wanted to increase the sex appeal of the show (which is why they got rid of Minkus) but it really through the audience for a loop. The above poster would argue that this was symbolic of the fact that Corey thought all girls were weird before he hit puberty. However, none of the other girls in Corey's class were painting their faces with lipstick. What's with the bs love story between Corey and Topanga? Why couldn't the writers just explained that Corey thought she was strange as a kid but he later wanted to bone her as they got older? That happens. I knew many girls of my youth that I didn't care for only to see them develop into knockouts. However, Topanga was no knockout. She was cute as a pre-teen but she started to sag after she and Corey became official. I also didn't like Shawn's transformation in the college seasons. In real life, a guy with Shawn's familial background would never learn to love just one girl. The writers had his character right up until he met Angela. This show was pretty good but it had some problems. Mr. Feeny (despite being a stalker) and Eric were the only saving graces.
When they graduated high school, the show really went downhill. I mean Cory and his friends all go to the same college along with Eric and all his friends. Come on! And the greatest part is Mr. Feeney goes with them. The guy goes from being their sixth grade teacher to high school principle to college professor. If I were Cory, I'd file a restraining order against him. All this became a little too much for me. Despite this, but I will always be a loyal fan of the show.
What the hell was wrong with this guy's hair??? I liked when he kicked the hell out of his (real-life) brother!! I still think that Eric Matthews became one of the best characters on t.v, he started as a smart and boring guy but slowly became the funniest thing on this show, the way he'd just walk into a room and shout Feeeeeeny! And his background story line's (i.e The Trueman show bit) were better than the real story line of Corey and Topenga going out!
Why the hell did his parents have a baby? There was absolutely no purpose of that at all. I guess they wanted to focus more on the parents that's all, but having a baby when your at least 50 is not what I would call "bringing the family together". If anything it made Corey at his brother stay away. And why was Morgan still on the show? She wasn't cute and she had no purpose. I think as soon as Corey went to college that his parents and Morgan should have been cut.
I have to defend Boy Meets World. When Topanga moves in with her Aunt Prudence Cory says that he has always loved her. He refers to the years( age 8-13) as the "lost years" because Eric had told him girls were stupid and Cory believed him. Mr. Feeny moved up with the kids because he was a great character who they could develop great storylines with. The show was far fetched at times (the later college years) but it had a sweet message about friendship and love. Oh, a message to the person eho mentioned the changing of ages and grades Soap Operas do it all the time, GET OVER IT! P.S. Shawn had two half-brothers and a sister (Stephanie) and Topanga had a sister named Nebula Stop the war Lawrence. These characters had bit roles and only the character of Jack ever became a long standing role.
1) Danielle (Topanga) Fishel gained weight, granted but she was not fat. 2) Trina (Angela) McGee-Davis was not ugly and I know people who think she was too attractive to want to be with Shawn. 3) That said I liked both Shawn and Angela--as a couple and characters on their own. 4) I wouldn't have minded Topanga and Cory getting married so much if they hadn't been together for so long. After they hooked up they should have had an entire season or two where they dated other people and were "just friends". Those 4 main points out of the way some of the inconsistencies were annoying but I just chalk it up to "whatever"; I didn't let them ruin my enjoyment (these are the skipping grades, the missing characters, the Mr. Feeny around forever)--but some where ANNOYING (Topanga losing all of the characteristics that made her interesting and different, the we've been in love forever garbage, Eric becoming dumber than dumb). There were some undertones that were downright hilarious about this show though--the extreme closeness of Corey and Shawn for instance. Sometimes I really expected one of them to just admit that they were seriously in love with the other. I think the writers and actors just played up on this in some episodes and I appreciate it. I'm glad it got more adult as they grew up (BTW, one couple together forever saving themselves through marriage was a nice sentiment but one was enough. So Shawn and Angela lived together and more than likely did it...wow...so shocked there)and I'm glad they focused more on Shawn's character because he was the best actor in the show IMO. I just wished they had gone ahead, and been sappy enough to let Shawn and Angela wind up together at the end. I wanted a happy ending for them.
Everyone here is over-reacting..this show NEVER jumped. I loved every season, and I'll defend the show till I turn gray. This show is more quotable and hilarious than any other show to date, most likely the best show ever. In my opinion, Cory gets funnier as he gets older! And so does Shawn, because he gets dumber! I feel that drama plays a big part of the last season and a half, but that wouldn't jump the shark! Now, we all know the big wedding was a disgrace, but that still couldn't destroy the great moments, the great memories of the old school Boy Meets World. And why did they drive the Jedidiah gimmick into the ground? That was awesome, they could of had a big episode where Topanga becomes a huge star. But when I think steered wrong is during those early seasons, which started all the crap. I'm talking about how Shawn and his dad & mom's little run-away, that started the crappy little hunt, and eventually ran the character to where they had to have the character face death in order to keep it on. I could still claim it as the best show ever.
The early eps were the best and for the first few years the show carried TGIF's second generation, (Mr Cooper, Family Matters etc.). Liked Ben Savage's acting talent, but after Corey and Shawn went into high school Boy Meets World cleared EVERY shark in the Pacific before finally coming to rest somewhere in Japan. I actually thought Topanga was better in the earlier episodes, when she was the oddball of Mr Feeny's class. The role of George Feeny was way to serious for William Daniels. He was much better as KITT on Knight Rider. My question was how long could the Corey and Topanga drama go on. They should have spun this show off when they entered high school into a daytime soap. So I'll have to say when Corey and Topanga started dating was when Boy Meets World jumped the shark.
i really dont think this show jumped the shark at all...i think every episode was awesome in every way, it can really teach some people alot of valuable lessons or just make certain people actually sit down and "think" about how they are doing certain things in their life.
This show never jumped! It had a couple of weak episodes (The whole Rory's Shangri-La thing comes to mind) but the majority of them were great! I think this show was very under rated, especially the last 2 seasons. The epidsode "She's Having my Baby Back Ribs" is quite possibly a perfect 30 minutes of television. If you don't like this show or think it is stupid, watch that episode if you ever have a chance. It's about Topanga and Eric secretly going on a diet and Shawn and Cory suspecting that Topanga is pregnant. It featured classic lines like "She took my pants!" "Awwww, I like you Jumbo Jack." "I'm not fat, I'm pregnant!" "How would it make you feel if these two waffels got together and had a little waffle?" and this classic exchange between Topanga and Eric regarding their diet: "If I get a craving for a candy bar, I'll come to you." "And we can split it!" "No!" "Then I get the whole thing!" I don't think people gave this show enough credit and I think the writing was genius most of the time. I wonder what the writers are doing these days? I say bring back Boy Meets World! Heck it's not like the cast is real busy these days and I'm sure they could figure out some sort of storyline. It couldn't be much worse than the crap that's on TV right now. Or a Boy Meets World movie! Now we're talking. I wish this show would come out on DVD. Also, the two parter (I think part one was called "The War" and part two was "Seven the Hard Way") about the practical joke war that leads to Eric becoming a hermit named Plays With Squirrels was totally classic. "I married a moose. We don't need counseling." Boy Meets World for LIFE!!!
The show was going perfect until they added Jack into the mix. I wish they hadn't gotten rid of Mr. Turner. I stopped watching the show when Jack came on.
Will Friedle started his obsession with South Park right about when everyone else did--1997. He began delivering lines like Cartman and even started quoting the show. Then season 7 began and something magical happened: he BECAME CARTMAN! He got fat, funny, and ********! That's when I started to notice something...Boy Meets World itself was becoming just like South Park. Shawn is poor, unlucky, potty-mouthed (as much as you can be on a network), and misunderstood. JUST LIKE KENNY. Topanga is like WENDY, the hippie girlfriend who makes her guy nervous. Cory began acting Jewish and was totally unhip like KYLE. Jack, the normal, "cute," and slightly shy one of the bunch is like STAN. Rachel is high-strung and annoying like TWEEK. Even Mr. Feeny went a bit insane and kept haunting his students like MR. GARRISON. Angela is TOKEN, the black one (sorry), who gets no personality or significant lines from the writers. Even Cory's dad was called "average" and was usually laid-back and funny like STAN'S FATHER. Cory's mom was as biotchy as KYLE'S MOM. The new baby was IKE. Morgan, the teasing sister got like SHELLY (interestingly, she used to be a sweet person until SP started to air...) I don't know whether this freaky connection was intentional, but it may jave just made the show Jump the Shark...
The show JTS when Cory and Topanga got married. Like a poster above said, it killed the suspense in the show, like there was nothing left to watch for (I feel they should have ended the series with them getting married). The show went on for about two seasons two long. Also there are some other things that didn't help the series. First of all why did the change Cory from a mischievous-but-likable 11 year old to sounding like a whinny, whimpy, blabbing old man? I know his character had to grow up and mature but I feel kicking my TV every time Cory goes into his rants about how much he "loves Topanga" and how their will "survive anything." Now my next question: What the heck happened to Eric? When did he suddenly have the intelligence of roadkill? How did he get into college? (How do people in sitcoms, not matter how dumb, always seem to get into college?) Yes, I have to admit at times he was funny but his sudden stupidity got on my nerves most of the time. Although it was neither of these things that killed the series it was Cory and Topanga getting married that put the nail in the coffin.
Nothing was quite as funny and quirky as the first season. The next couple seasons were tolerable, but Minkus disappearing and Corey and Topenga ("Topenga"?!) becoming a couple were NOT cool, and then it quickly became a soap opera with half-brothers that come in out of nowhere and everything. And Eric went from mischievous and occasionally bumbling to really, really, really stupid, à la Homer Simpson. He was supposed to be the comic relief in those later years in the midst of all that schmaltzy drama, but he wasn't funny either. He was pathetic. But the first season was some excellent and original teen-oriented programming.
I loved this show, don't get me wrong. But it has way to many wholes in it's stories. In the earlier episodes Topanga had an older sister that came over to the Matthews' house. Then she never showed up again. I find that extremely hard to believe.
This show jumped in the third season when Lily Nickly left the show as Morgan Matthews then we got Lindsay Ridgeway as the same character. Like we would not notice a complete change in face structure and bone structure. Another thing is the attitude was so different Lily was sarcastic but sweet she got what she wanted across but did while still being sweet. Lindsay Ridgeway was just a nasty bit**.
Never jumped. It came very close several times, but always managed to redeem itself in my eyes. I have a few complaints though. Why did Minkus have to go? The first season is probably my favorite all because of Minkus. He was so funny and had so much potential if he had stayed. Also, the other disappearing characters: Mr. Turner, Mr. Williams, and Eric's friend Jason. They were all great, I wish they could have hung around. The last season was pretty bad and it almost jumped when Cory and Topanga got married, but not quite. I was just so addicted I had to keep watching by then. To be honest, the number one reason I always watched is cuz Eric was a major hottie. I mean seriously. Shawn and Jack can't possibly measure up to Eric.
All I keep reading on here is how the show reinvented the history of Cory and Topanga. That is untrue. Everything was fully explained in the episode where Toopanga runs away from Pittsburgh and back to Philadelphia to be with Cory. He gives his parent a huge speech about how much he loves her. He says...when i was young i loved this girl...we did everything together...but then eric told me it wasnt cool to like a girl or even know a girl so for the next seven years i threw dirt at her...then when i was eleven she put me up against my locker and gave me my first kiss. the whole history was right there. I loved this how and I wish it were still on. I watch it every day even though I've seen every episode about 50 times!!
When this show started I was almost 15. Me and my family watched it every Friday, we all loved it. Cory and Shawn were funny and entertaining, Morgan was a cute little girl, Minkus was the loveable nerd who could always make us laugh, and Eric was the popular(and hot)older brother. Also, Feeny was cool and Topanga rocked. Once the first season ended, we all kinda forgot about it. But one night, I caught the wedding episode while scrolling through channels. It sucked. It was just horrible. The first thing I noticed was Topanga was normal, and annoying, and Cory had lost his little boy cuteness. Morgan was a different actress and was a total brat. I was really surprised to find that I was more attracted to Shawn than Eric, although that was probably just because the last time I had seen Shawn, he was a little kid. And there was some other guy there who wasn't around in season 1. I later found out that Minkus and Jason both disappeared in the earlier seasons, and the other guy was Jack. I started watching it when it came to Disney, and found out that it was still really good in the early seasons and 4 & 5 rocked! I loved that Minkus appeared in the graduation episode, even if it was only briefly. But the wedding episode was just horrible and the episodes went downhill after that.
It never jumped. The closest it ever came was when they added Rachel in season 6, but she was sorta funny so that wasn't so bad. My favorite episode is the one where Eric goes to Hollywood and gets cast in the show "Kid Gets Acquainted with Universe" OMG. I laughed so hard at that episode I thought I was gonna die. It was so funny! I loved that whole thing with "This is Ben Sandwich. You may have heard of his brother, Bread Sandwich." And that whole thing with "Schneider and me are wounded birds!" I was cracking up. This show was always hilarious, and I loved how it made fun of itself like in that episode.
All in all, I like this show. But it had some major issues. There was an episode is season 2 where Cory goes to a make-out party and freezes in the closet with Topanga and everyone makes fun of him. Oh, and they were in 7th grade. Come on! I was in 7th grade when that episode aired and I thought it was dumb. I don't know about anyone else, but that didn't happen at my school. Yeah, people dated and made out. The attitude was kinda like, if you wanna kiss, go ahead. If you don't, fine. We didn't have cheesy little parties like that. Most of the episodes had stereotypical plots like that and those bothered me, but I still sorta liked the show.
I do not think Boy Meets World ever sucked and it never will. The people who have something negative to say about it dont know what reality really is. The stuff that happens to the characters in this show actually happen to alot of people in real life. I still watch this show everyday one the disney channel and it never gets old. Just because things switch around alot does not mean it is not a good show. Every sitcom jumps around. Not everything goes in order. People just do not need to want eberything perfect because nothing in this world is perfect. My vote is this show rocks. It NEVER went downhill.
This show rocks! Everyone here says Topanga is fat, Topanga was always cute, and you can tell she wasn't just another actress not eating meals. And I liked the older Morgan. Everyone says, "lindsey Ridgeway was just an annoying bit**" well guess what. There's something called acting, I don't know if you've ever heard of it, but that's what Lindsey Ridgeway was doing. The writers wrote her lines, that's probably not how she actually is in real life. While I did like the younger Morgan better, Lindsay Ridgeway was a good actress, and very sassy. I liked it. And who cares if Eric got fat?! The media portrays every actor to look like "Jack" on the show and every actress to look like "Rachel" on the show. That's not fair. And I like the newer episodes better. Eric is stupid-funny, and Shawn has more carefree attitude towards everything. Cory just gets dumber over the years, Topanga's not as strange, and they added Angela as Shawn's girlfriend. I think these are good changes. And I love how they never once mention how Shawn's white and Angela's african american, and they're dating. On most other shows, whites date whites, and african-americans date african-americans. This show is awesome, and always will be.
This show was always funny and it never jumped. It didn't particularly bother me how the jokes became more about sex after awhile. I mean, they were in college in the last few seasons. College is notoriously, probably stereotypically, raunchy. I loved almost every episode. But what I really enjoyed about the show was watching the characters change and grow up. It's almost kinda weird. In the first season, Cory and Shawn were kids and Eric was the hot older brother. However, as time went by, Shawn got older and became really, really hot, more so than Eric, who got extremely stupid in the last few seasons. Cory grew up to be a worrier, not at all like the sarcastic kid he used to be. But those changes were all good, I thoght. Eric got funnier as he got stupider, Cory was hilarious when he worried about everything, like in that episode where he thinks he has some disease and goes to the doctor and gets diagnosed with hypochondria, and in some episodes I didn't even pay attention to the plot cuz I was staring at Shawn. But I did NOT like how Topanga changed. First of all, she never should have become normal, and she was such a nag in the later seasons. I didn't mind the addition of Angela or Jack, but Rachel was really annoying. There were too many characters that just disappeared. Mr. Turner, he was really funny sometimes, in a sarcastic sort of way. Minkus, I'm still trying to figure out why they got rid of him, he was awesome. I loved how he and Shawn would exchange insults. But I really hated how they got rid of Eric's friend Jason. He was so great, especially in the episode where Eric was dating that southern girl. She said he was a little petite to be playing basketball, and when she referred to him as Eric's "elfen buddy" his reaction, both the line itself and the delivery of the line, were hysterical. That was one of my favorite episodes. So basically this show was really good except for a few things I disliked.
Now let's not kid ourselves. This show was never all that good to begin with, but it got reeeaaaally bad after Cory, Shawn, and Topanga graduated high school. Every episode was awful, with about 1 or 2 exceptions. The problem is, I couldn't stop watching it. It was kinda like a drug, I had been watching so long, it was just sort of a habit and I didn't really think about it. I'm gonna sound really shallow when I say this but after awhile the only reason I continued to watch was Shawn. One word: sexy. Eric and Jack were hot too, they just never really did anything for me, but Shawn. . WOW. I could just stare at him forever, he was so cute! Even after this show started to seriously suck, Shawn always made it worth watching. Oh and one more thing, for everyone saying Topanga was fat, wake up and realize that she was a beautiful girl, and her body was perfectly normal. Well those are my thoughts, people.
I watched this show every Friday night from the week it started until the last episode. I was very disappointed when it was canceled, but I was even more diasppointed to see how it ended. I guess they have to do this with every show, but I kind of felt cheated when they ended it by having Angela move to Europe and by having Corey, Topanga, Shawn and Eric move to New York. It was so obvious that they did this in a rush. (Plus, when did Corey's little brother age about 2 years?)
"Patagna?" "Topango?" "Mr. Finney?" "Mingus?" What the heck were these people smoking? Oh well. Anyway I think the show jumped the shark when I realized how annoying everyone got by the last season and that there were to many unanswered questions. In the beginning, Cory acted like any other eleven year old sixth grader but by the end of the show he had become mister-i'm-gonna-fix-everyone's-problems-whether-they-like-it-or-not and he whined about every damn thing! And what about Shawn I-would-be-related-to-a-trash-can-if-it-fit-the-plot Hunter? He started off as an idiot but then by college was a sensitive poet? Huh? Topanga, little miss I-have-be-a-nag-about-everything. Why wasn't her change from hippie to valley girl explained? Eric my-shoelaces-are-smarter-than-me Matthews? What happened to him? I understand that people grow and mature and that your not the same at 11 as you are at 20 but still some of the characters evolved (or in Eric's case devolved) into incredibly annoying people. And could somebody explain this whole apartment sharing thing? I got many headaches trying to understand who was where. I mean one week it's Shawn, Jack and Eric. Then it's Rachel, Jack and Eric. Then it's Rachel, Topanga, and Angela. Then it's Shawn, Jack and Eric again. Then it's Angela and Shawn.....I dunno, to confusing for me. Where did Mr. Turner and Minkus go? (I know, down "that" hallway...) How was Feeny their teacher EVERY year and how did they always end up in the same classes? How come Frankie, Joey and Harley (or Griff) weren't kicked out of school? How come Feeny followed them everywhere? Why are we almost never shown Topanga's family? Where'd Eric's friend Jason go? How come they had so much time between classes? Why did it look like Feeny only owned two outfits? The questions can just go on and on.......
This Show I feel never jumped and just to clear it up for everyone who thinks they have a intelligent opinion and then comment I like this show and they explain the reason why they say they have loved each other since they were three and that is because when Cory got to a certain age his friends told him that girls were disgusting and he said he called that the lost years for everyone who wants to know and the another thing I personally have found the love of my life and it can happen at any age I think that this show is great I didn't want it to end and I am sending repeated emails to disney to put the show into seasons on DvD. Also another things yes some of the show has unanswered question but I think it still kept its quality. I think that it is a great show. I personally want to get married after college althought like the school on tv everybody saw me and my girlfriend as an ideal couple. I went through allot of **** that was similar to the show and I think it rocks. I did like the characters that suddenly went missing but, sometimes shows have no choice for many reasons such as a character finding a new job or something similar. So, I disagree with allot of the people who were commenting and I think this shows is great. Oh and one last things topanga changed because she had to grow up sometime and that is what happened. I was one weird little could but matured and changed just like all the characters and that is why they appeared different just to let you know.
Absolutely never jumped! Bless the Disney Channel for bringing us Shawn Hunter like a million times a day. I actually have watched the show from the beginning, and the continuity is a little irritating. No argument. However, it's a sit-com for crying out loud! So what if something that happened in the first season doesn't add up four years later?!
Sigh. Its not that I dont like the show, but yes, there are problems with it. I dont really like the college years as I did with the high school years because by then Cory and Topanga were acting like they were a 65 year old couple, Shawn was crying over something, Eric was just unbeilivably stupid, etc. Also the fact that they were seniors by 1997 didnt really make any sense at all. One last thing: What the hell is with the improvisation with the whole story? I mean come on, in the first season Cory hated Topanga. Hormones suddenly grabbed him by the throat and they were all over each other and saying that they were ment to be forever or some crap like that.
Topanga! Why did we see you go from free, fun-lovin, tree-huggin, stand-up-for-your-rights girl into I-got-a-new-haircut teen? The show started to plummet when we saw one of the strongest - and most admirable - characters conforming. Not that it was really believable anyways- I mean how does a person with a name like Topanga ever live a normal life? And did people ever find it strange that Mr. Feeny taught the kids in every single grade from 6th onward? The only show I enjoyed after all this was the one in which Cory's baby brother had complications and to cheer Cory up, Topanga danced and drew all over her face with lipstick again, saying she would try to be more free-spirited. We all know how long that lasted.
The shark jumped the show, not the other way around, when they replaced the original Morgan. The first one was adorable but was more or less a robot; everytime she turned around, I was sure I'd see the key they used to wind her up sticking out of her back. The new Morgan was much better, more of a nemesis to Corey and a thorn in the side to the family in general. Her eyes always seemed to have that sparkle in them when she had something clever to say to Corey. With Morgan #1, I think the only way you could have made her eyes sparkle was to shine a flashlight in her ear. I was glad when she was sent to her room as a 4 year old and emerged as a 9 year old saying "I've been in my room forever!" or whatever the line was.
I don't think this show ever jumped. The show just got more mature as the actors and actresses did who starred in it. Sure Eric was always a moron, but every show needs it's idiot. This is probably why everyone decided to leave the show, being 20 something and still playing the same characters you did when you were 12 could've been getting on there nerves.
I cant believe anyone who doesnt like this show. Ur a bunch of critical idiots. This is an amazin show and i love it. Cory and Topanga are the perfect couple. Anyone who says its unrealistic, ur wrong. Its not likely ur in love with 1 person ur whole life but its possible and its shows dreams some true. I LOVE THE FEENY CALL!!!! Eric is a moron, and thats what makes it funny! But he has a heart which makes him smart. I laughed and cried the whole time it was on and will watch reruns over and over and never get tired of. Anyone who disagrees i have a bone to pick with u. THIS SHOW NEVER JUMPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This show jumped the shark when Topanga and Cory got married. That was what made the show survive for so long. So, they finally got married.....then what? But I wanna know is why did Angela HAVE to go to Europe with her dad? Was he gonna disappear into a black somewhere, and she'd never see him again? A year was nothin'! Why was, all of a sudden, a year soooo long. She survived all that time with out him before. That really pissed me off, Shawn and Angela went through all that break up to make up crap, just for her to end up leaving for a year! It woulda been great if they would have just gotten married sooner. They really need to do a tv-movie reunion special, reuniting Shawn and Angela.
Ok, Ill admit....I like boy Meets World alot, but i need 2 get some stuff of my back first. Lets start with....THE SHOW MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE AT ALL. Cory and Topanga says: we fell in love at first sight on the monkey bars when we were 2. But what I saw was: Thye met in Feenys classroom at 13 and hated each others guts all through first season. In the middle of the first season, Shawns dad lost his job, and they moved to a trailer park, and Cory was best friends with Shawn. But in the flash back from season 5 of "how cory met shawn" Cory didnt even know Shawn yet, but he turned Shawn down on a lunch offer because he lived in trailer. o, and in the same flashback, Cory is already with Topanga, yet from what I saw: Cory and Shawn were best friends before Cory even met Topanga. She even said it herself in season 3: "I met Shawn when I met Cory..". And what happened to Shawns sister Stacy huh?? AND Turner....characters keep dissapearing without a trace! AND mr Williams 2!! And what happened to Corys big baseball dream? after "The B-Team of Life" he dosent even mention the game!Whats with the madnes?????
Wasn't Topenga some hippie freak? Didn't Cory hate her guys? I have no problem with him liking her, but when they started getting sappy saying they loved each other in kindergarden, no they didn't.
This is a tough one. The classic jump point is, of course, graduation from good old John Adams High. When will TPTB learn? "High school" shows don't work outside a high school setting! But the show only became wretchedly unwatchable after Cory and Topanga got married. Yet, even given all that, I think the show truly jumped the shark when Mr. Turner left. That's when it all began to go downhill. Cory and Eric both went insane, Topanga's personality transplant from hippy chick to Miss Perfect was completed, Sean started to go weird...it all adds up. And it can all be traced back to Mr. Turner. Any episode with him (or before him) is shockingly good TV for its genre. Funny, endearing and poignant in its TGIF kind of way. Anything after sucked, to one degree or another. Oh, and I hated Jack and Rachel.
I CAN'T BELIEVE COREY HAD TO HAVE AN AFFAIR! I have always loved this show. It's pretty much the only show that always makes me laugh. But that whole thing with Lauren...the show jumped two sharks as far as I'm concerned. Topenga and Corey had a perfectly good relationship until SHE came along and messed it all up. Then they had to go and make ANOTHER episode with Lauren making the whole thing even worse. But it all smoothed out in the end I guess but Corey and Topenga's relationship weren't the same. Stupid Lauren...had to ruin it all...
I used to watch this show EVERY EPISODE. i was young and it was on TGIF, if u came to school and hadn't watched TGIF you were completely lost. ANyway one day my parents said, "we dont want you watching Boy meets world this week, its inappropriate." The whole Hotel room, prom night thing was not good for children, after the that there was way to much innuendo and i was embarrassed to watch with my parents. It used to be a family show... so sad.
I love the show but it started to get boring when Eric's personality changed, it became all about relationship problems, Morgan grew up, and when they started to mess up previous episodes. Like how they have about 30 diffrent explinations to how Corry and Topenga met or how in one episode Shawn has a sister named Stacey that we never hear of again (the episode when Corry messes up his hair). Personaly, I liked the show better when they were younger.
I was in 6th grade when this show began so I could relate to the characters. In fact, a lot of my friends said I was exactly like Cory because me and him both are troublemakers and we always wear Blue Jeans everyday, in fact kids at my school would wonder why he would wear jeans everyday, I said because they are cool, but after the show entered the third season, and the entered Junior High and then High School the show lost its cool and Cory didn't wear Jeans everyday, No Jeans No Cool!!
When Cory and Topenga broke up and Shawn was WAYYYYYYYYY too concerned like his life was over. They had that crappy episode with Jennifer Love Hewitt (Feffer) ala I know what you did last summer. Shawn was the killer. That was the worst over-acting I have ever seen. "me? I'm the killer?" Yeah and your also a ****** but that doesn't seem to bother you too much. This should have been the last epeisode where everybody dies. OH and I always thought that Topenga was really hot.
I love this show to death, and I always watch it on Disney, but, it came very close to JTS on more than 1 occasion.1-when Topenga's parents weren't her parents. In the first couple of seasons, her parents were Jedediah and Chloe, but later they were somehow changed to Jedediah and Rhiannon.2- when Topenga's older sister, Nebula, disappeared.3-When Angela left for Europe with her dad.4-when Cory got so fricking annoying in the later seasons.
"Boy Meets World" (or, an even BETTER name for it, "Boy Meets World, And Then Immediately Forgets About It") should have been given an honorary Emmy for Most Chronic Case of Amnesia Ever Exhibited By A Single TV Show. I would have given anything to see the finale end with the house shaking and the camera panning out to reveal that the last five or six seasons took place in a snow globe being shaken by Topanga-when-she-was-actually-still-a-semi-entertaining-hippy-chick. Or to see it end with Topanga going on for the 785th time about how she and Cory have loved each other since kindergarten and have Ben Savage break character and walk off-set to the writers ("Ben ... what's the problem?")and go, "It's bull c***! We HATED each other!", Rider Strong goes, "Didn't I have a SISTER?", other cast members go, "Oh YEAAAAAH ..", Danielle Fishel goes, "REMIND me again why Topanga became normal ..", cast proceeds to go through stacks of old scripts and swap memories as camera pans back and fades out ...
When corey and Topanga got married.Alright. I've read all of these comments and I have a few things to say.The show jumped shark when Corey and Topanga got married. I'm not saying it was a good or bad episode/wedding whatever, it's just that for a few seasons they have been dating and it was leading up to that event and when it finally took place it was almost like there wasn't anything else for them to look forward to, except for collrge graduation, but no one thought the show was really gonna last that long. As for the characters I think they each brought somthing to the show.First of all it was enivitable that Topanga and Corey were gonna start dating I mean that was a given. Corey was the main character and his evolution into someone who wanted to find this everlasting utopia was just who he evolved into, good or bad. Topanga was obviously vital to almost every story line involving corey and as far as everyone's comments about her weight gain. Get over it just b/c someone doesn't have the waistline of Jennifer Anniston it doesn't make them unattractive. To me she always remained attrative and I like that Corey loved her regardless. Shawn's character did change however, he(in earlier seasons) was the "bad seed" and was the other half to corey's good side. But remember that people change!!! College can do that to ya(trust me i know.. it changed me, it still is)So his becoming more sensitive(a whole lot more sensitve) was a big change but it happened over a few seasons it's not like it was overnight. As for Angela.. I still don't understand why everyone keeps stresses on the fact that she was black... SO FREAKIN WHAT!?!?!!Maybe they didn't mention it on the show a lot because they wanted to show them as people who treated her as a normal girl not as Angela Shawn's black g/f.like hoenstly people, lets grow up.Contrary to what you might think with some people it's not that big of a deal, and dedicating an episode to it i dont' think would have been necessary, just see her as Shawn's g/f geeze. I think she made a good match for Shawn they had the same intrests and frankly Shown needed someone after all of those years of not having a love intrest. So even thought I really liked their relationship their breaking up and getting back together did get kind of annoying I must say. Jack coming in as Shawns brother wouldn't have been so bad if Shawn's alleged sister wouldn't have vanished into thin air with no further mention of her.But he was an alright character and a good way to kind of be eric's other half kinda like corey is for shawn. My only complaint is with Rachel. She didn't realy have a purpose on the show or any real ties with any one character she was just kinda there filling space taking spots doing things in episodes where ever. Corey's parents were cool and his sister (even though the actress was changed) was as cool as younger sister on a show like this could be. And last but not least Mr. Feeny was there to do what he did best be a mentor for Corey Topanga and Shawn. It was strange how he followed them to high school and then college, but it kept him on the show doing what he did best, giving them advice. So overall althgouh there were inconsistencies in the show like corey and topanga being in love for years( when they really only fell in love in midde/high school), characteres leaviing never to be seen again, and them skipping a few years it was a show that we all watched and even some of us still watch, what is the use of picking it apart? It's entertainment and it was a huge part of my elementary school-high school years, i used watch it every friday night. Now that I'm in college and 21, I still watch the re-runs when they're on and i can catch them cause it brings me back to a time when i didn't have to think about anything stressful. I loved and still love watching what corey, topanga, and shawn go through and how they get out of their situations. It's what makes the show great!
The show jumped around the time Joey and Franky (the bullies) left the show. Mind you, it near jumped with the loss of Minkus, but clear the shark ten fold when our beloved Adams High bullies were no more. To me, they provided the comedic relief of a dull show, even if it was very slight indeed.
It was routine. I would go to school, get home, have a snack, do homework, masturbate, then watch boy meets world. I feel that i grew up with Cory, Topenga, Eric, Shawn, and even Mr. Feeny. Such obstacles that we go through in our life would obtain to the loveable cast throughout the years, such as the troubles of grade school, puberty (which i am yet to conquer), meeting girls, and trying to make a name for yourself in high school. When the college years started is when the show became exeptionally orgasmic. I feel that I too what traveling on this road that we call life when i watched the possibly greatest show in telivision history behind g-string divas. I love you all, class dismissed.
Where did Minkus go? Where did Eli, and that other teacher go? Why did Eric get so...big? Why did Topanga swell up? Why was Angela ten years older than every other character? Why did the new Morgan have such an attitude? Why did the mom have another baby? Why was Rachel SO DAMN TALL? Why did Cory act like such an idiot once they arrived in college? UgH!!!!
Boy Meets World never jumped. You people think way too much into it. You say, "When it lost its cuteness." Having a little trouble dealing with reality and the fact that people change, are we? I've also seen, "When Topanga got fat," or some other character bash. No one's perfect, deal with it. "They grew up too fast. the whole story took place over the course of seven years," or whatever. It's a ****ing TV show!! it's not when it takes place, but the lessons learned while it takes place. You all are trying to pick apart a TV show (of all things, too), and it's pathetic! Get a life, get a job, get a CLUE! Because if this is what you do with your spare time, you have serious issues. Why don't you try making your own goddamn "perfect" television show if this one bothers you so much? At least we won't have to hear your bull **** any more.
Ok first of all a little quote once said by Cory Cory: Mom, Listen, I haven't been together with Topanga for twenty-two years, but we *have* been together for sixteen. 'Kay, that's a lot longer than most couples have been together. I mean, when we were born, you told me that we used to take walks in our strollers together in the park. When we were two, we were best friends, I mean, I, I knew everything about this girl. I knew her favorite color. I knew her favorite food. Then we became six, you know, and Eric made fun of me because it wasn't cool to have a best friend that was a girl or even know a girl, so for the next seven years I threw dirt at her. I like to call those "the lost years". Then when I was thirteen, Mom, she put me up against my locker and she kissed me. I mean, she gave me my first kiss. She taught me how to dance. She was always talking about these crazy things and I never understood a word she said. All I understood was that she was the girl I sat up every night thinking about, and when I'm with her I feel happy to be alive. Like I can do anything. Even talk to you like this. So that's, that's what I feel is love, Mom... When I'm better because she's here... and now she won't be. So we're finished. sooo that should end this Cory and Topanga hated each other then all the sudden they were in love thing.... second of all this thing you all hold against Mr. Feeny...yes he did move up w* them but if you think about it, it makes since....in 6th grade he was there teacher....then he was poromoted to principal when they became in highschool...and he had retired when they went to college but then he desides to not teach but go back to college, he j* couldnt handle being in a class room w* out teaching and luckly the dean gave him a job. And of course he was always there for them, first he was there wise next door neighbor that had rly good advice and he was with them for soo long he cared about them neone would if u were w* them for that long. Ok onto the next matter this hole moving to differant grades thing. They didnt like get moved up in grades in show like ur acting like that happend. From a convo Cory and Shawn once had Cory: But you see, Shawn, that was a cartoon. Time was compressed, we're real, we're in real time. Shawn: Trust me, it's the same thing. Cory: No, no it's not. You see, a television show can cover many days in only one "half an hour" program. Shawn: Trust me, it's the same thing. J* like that Boy meets world producers where compressed of time and had to shorten up there years in highschoool....but they didnt mean for people to take it like they kids had skipped grades. And Topanga was always smart and she still was smart at the end....she j* changed out of her akward stage...I mean everyone goes threw akward stages and find themselves and she happend to find herself over the summer entering middle school...they even said something about how she grew up over the summer....and whoever mentioned that it was horrible when she cut her hair....she did it to show cory she cared more about the inside then the outside and i personally wish more people where like that....and the whole her gettin fat thing....soo she gained a couple fo pounds hasnt anyone ever heard of eatin...god this is why people go anneroxic bc people say stuff about them gaining wait and she went no where near the fat point of even near the chubby point you could J* tell she ate and didnt starve herselve.. Ok and im in love w* eric i wait everyday til 12 to watch reruns of the show on disney j* to see him....soo hes a lil wierd....it makes the show wayy entertaining....its on right now and im typing this soo im not payin total attention but whenever theres laughin i look and its got sumthign to do w* eric. And this is the college years. He always had a smartish side even b4 the adoption eposiode... so its not like it j* all the sudden appeared. And he was hott b4 and even w* a couple of pounds on him hes not that bad looking. And i think hes wierdness makes the show less dramatic like you all are all complaining about. Ok and on you all complaining about Corys hair. He cant help that he has "brillo pad" for hair. Do you really want everyone on tv to be this amazing looking people to make your live look worse then it probably already is? And he always acted like an old man thats j* the way he was. Even in high school Tapanga picked out his clothes and they went to fancy dancy resturantes. Ok and Jack and Rachel if they werent added you all would complain that the story was gettin boring w* the same 4 people soo dont complain about them they really put a differant veiw on life. And who goes to college and doesnt make new friends? If they didnt come into the picture then it would have made the show unrealalistic. And for Angela and Shawn she made the show good. She finally calmed down shawn. And it was about time that he stopped that 2 week thing and had a real realationship. But it was good that it wasnt like Corys and Tapangas it really made shawns purpose in the show rise from J* corys Best friend to a main main character. And who cares if shawn and cory where that close. They were best friends. Thats how true best friends act and if you dont know that maybe you should look at your friendships and figure out if they are true friendships. Ok and on this Minkus thing. He was in one season soo why do u all miss him soo much. He had a crush on tapanga and was j* the smart lil geeky boy that shawn and cory made fun of... so why do you all like him sooo much....hes heart would have j* been broken when Cory and Tapanga got together neway....And there really wasnt a point to him neway. And on Mr Turner, He was good for the time but if he was still there during college there would have been too many people following them threw the years. And neway 2 teachers goin w* them into college seems unrealalistic neway. And on them using the same stuff over and over again (like turners apartment into the college apartment) even friends used the same apartment and everything and that show is an altime great. And maybe they were j* a lil short of cash cut them a lil slack. And on Cory and tapanga slipping up and gettin back together, for the 411 people do that. When ur 14 yea you go to another schools dance and you wanna be w* other girls thats normal who wants to be tied down when your 14. The they got back together cuz they obvs. missed each other. Then When they broke up in highschool it was because of Lauren. Yea Cory had hurt hes foot soo he couldnt go sking and all hes friend were out there...soo he talked to her....and being a normal like 16/17 year old guy he kissed her....but rite away he knew it was wrong and would have taken it back if he could....its not hes fault Tapanga felt soo strongely about it. Then when they broke up in college was only because Tapanga felt like everything she ever knew about childtime lovers gettin married was ruined when her parnets got a divorce. And divorces are hard on any kid when your in a relationship. So all the reasons they broke up where normal. And if they hadnt broken up it would have been wierd that from the time they were 13/14 til the time they were 18/19 thats 7 years of the best times of your life w* one girl that j* doesnt make sence..... So next time your about to trash this show think twince about it cuz ur got ur fact all mixed up *sarah* -ooo and by the way the boy who thought it jumped because you thought shawn looked good as a girl thats ur problem you thought it not that shows buddy
"Boy Meets World" was the best of the post "Family Matters" TGIF stable. One must, however, keep in mind that it was a sitcom, not a documentary. This was not "Frontline: Cory Matthews". Realism and continuity were not the primary attractions of this program; they really shouldn't be for any show. That being said, "Boy Meets World" totally vaulted the tank once C-Math and Topanga were married. The actual wedding episode was not without merit (Eric, memorably: "Ha, Shawn's poor!"), but it signified a prelude to the downfall of the show. The transition from comedy to half-hour drama (i.e., a comedy without any jokes) was painful and I threw in the towel even before the last episode. After legendary installments such as Cory's extracurricular ski-resort activities (and Topanga's ensuing mega-bitchiness), Mr. Matthews true feelings for Shawn shining through as he strangles him when he and Cory are arrested for underage drinking (with Cory peeing on the cop car, which rocked) and of course, Mingus, the utter banality and near-stuporific boredom of the warmed-over "relationship dramas" was nigh on upsetting. Any stray shades of former glory (the episode where Eric and Jack manage, in a game of pranksmanship, to squeeze a car into Rachels' dorm) where quickly erased when the show sank back into the half-hour morass of self-pity and faux-angst that had by that juncture become the norm (the second part of that same episode). But hey, it's just a TV show.
Just so corny. D-Creek and everyone else did it, so they do it, too. Simple & predictable plot that keeps bringing down Cory/Topanga's relationship: A Friend Getting Their Ass Stomped. How new and fresh. Like I haven't seen that a bunch of times. I hate these "A Very Special..." episodes where someone O.D.s or gets in a car accident or has family problems. And TV show crossovers. Ughh... *shudders*
I would have voted "never jumped" but really, the whole "hey lets age them quicker so we can do college stuff!" concept was a little stupid. Also the fact that Feeny managed to follow the kids throughout the entire 7 years the show was on (93-00), that was pretty stupid.
The only reason this piece of crap lasted as long as it did in a Friday night time slot was because of addle-brained teenage girls who couldn't find anything else to do. Many of the previous comments, especially the ones with poor grammar and spelling prove my point. Any show that has a character named "Topanga" is bound to be stupid. I'm waiting to see what location name gets used next for a character-Des Moines? Kankakee? Miami? Tucson?
First off, I'm 23 years old and a guy. I've loved "Boy Meets World" since it's debut. I grew up watching the show. This is one of those show that just kept getting better as it went along. Eric Matthews, for example, started off the series kind of boring. However, by the end he was the funniest character on the show. My only complaint is the lack of continuity. Such as certain characters (Minkus, Mr. Turner & Eli) leaving without explanation. In season 1, Cory, Shawn and Topanga were in the sixth grade. In season 2 they were in seventh. Season 3, they skipped (without explanation) to the tenth grade. From then on they were okay. "Boy Meets World" is my pick for the fifth best sitcom ever made. It was always enjoyable to watch and the best part is how it's probably more popular now (in reruns) than it ever was. Long live Cory, Shawn, Topanga, Eric and so on.
First of all I always hated it on shows where every single friend was always in the same class as each other. But this show went one farther. The teacher, Mr. Feeney was their third grade teacher, then their fourth grade teacher, etc. etc. I would've been fine with that. But then Corey and his girlfriend go to college (of course the same college) and who's their teacher? Mr. Feeney of course! By the way if Corey had problems in class he could go next door to have his answers checked by guess who? You got it! Mr. Feeney was great in The Graduate though.
BMW never jumped. Yes, the continuity errors they got away with on this show were absolutely insane, but it didn't matter because they kept the audience entertained. I don't think anything went wrong with the show when Cory and Topanga tied the knot. I really think that the show got better as it went along. The humor in the show, especially the last few seasons, was absolutely hillarious. I loved the characters. I did think the finale was a little hard to follow; it kept switching back and forth from clips, to not clips, to clips, to not clips. However, wonderful, wonderful show. I love it.
Whatever you want to say about Boy Meets World- it was a sexless show. The characters weren't sexy, the plots were never sexy it was just stuck in a timewarp where risque means mixed showers- whatever next? another ethnic person being added to the group! As much as I may say this show jumped the shark (and it did the moment Topanga and Cory even contemplated, thinking about, talking about having S-E-X) it was still pretty funny thanks to the one man wonder that is Eric. Give the guy his own show NOW!
Ok, I'll start by saying this: yes, Boy Meets World is a nice little show to watch if nothing else is on, and yes, I did happen to watch it when I was younger (I'm 19 now). But, THE DAMN THING JUST DIDN'T MAKE SENSE ONCE THEY GOT TO COLLEGE! Now I know I just broke that rule about not writing in caps, but I just so happened upon an episode where, for some reason, Topanga falls into a hole in hers and Corey's closet and somehow they're all in conquered France in the 1940s. WHAT IN GOD'S CREATION WERE THEY THINKING?
OK this has to be the greatest show ever and should win some type of award, maybe the nobel peace prize or something like that. Even though it still is the greatest show it did contain some flaws. 1) The early years were good, but not great, and were not consistent with what happened later. What happened to Minkus? And it was always said that Corey and Topanga loved each other since they were two years old but they hated each other growing up. 2) I thought it was sort of weird how Topanga was a weird ugly girl who turned into a smart yet ditzy fine peace of ass. 3) It was odd how Mr. Turner just disappeared all of a sudden. And what was up with that episode where Shawn almost joined a cult, come on. 4) Throughout the show Topanga had three different fathers, one was in theband the monkeys, and she had 2 different fathers in back to back episodes, now thats just not realistic. 5) It went from a funny show to try and do sappy after school special shows with dumb themes. I liked when they got drunk, but honestly they all seem like wussies who never get into any real trouble. 6) Shawn was a player in high school and should have got with lots of girls, then he goes to college and turns into a pussie, whats up with that. 7) Cory's parents had another baby, thats just ridiculous dont those fools know to wrap their tools 8) The final episode was sort of weird and it just sort of ended everything without wrapping things up. Whatever happened to Angela did she just leave, and why is Shawn living with Cory and Topanga in New York when they are married? 9) They should slow down the cool handshakes that Corey and Shawn do so I can learn them easier. 10) this is more of a suggestion but why did they stop having B-list celebrities. I mean it was great when they had Vader and the one armed pitcher Jim Abbot, i know they had mankind and the guys from loveboat in one of the final seasons but they should have had more guest stars. Lots of people complain that Feeny teaches them every year, but feeny is the man so its cool. Also people complain that Eric gets dumber and dumber but in actuality he gets funnier and funnier. This is truly the greatest show ever.
Boy Meets World is the greatest! These people who are complaining about it ... nobody is making you watch it! Yeah they grew up too fast but this might shock everyone IT'S A TV SHOW... IT'S NOT REAL! And of course Mr. Feeney followed them to college, he made the show and w/o him the show would have gone downhill! Eric rocks my socks! Anyone who saw the "plays with squirrels episode" and didn't crack up has no sense of humor what-so-ever!!! And to the person that said Topanga and Corey didn't know eachother until 6th grade... watch the show again! Shawn might have too many issues but if it weren't for all his problems what would Corey do? :) I love BMW reruns... and it never jumped the shark!
This show jumped the shark when they all grew up all too quick. I mean like they were young and cute and FUNNY. Then they grew up and started acting all "normal" and boring
I guess the show kind of jumped around a little. like when Topanga gets the job in New York and she says they are going to move after they graduate, but then they move like the next day.
When Topanga and Corey got engaged. It should have ended right there, because he wasn't technically a "boy" anymore and the show title no longer applied. Although I did like the college episodes much more than the earlier ones, the engagement was the definite climax of the show.
This show jumped when too many episodes focused completely on Shawn and how traumatic his home life was. Many of these episodes were like a bad "movie of the week". Serious downers and I stoopped watching on a regular basis.
Boy Meets World never jts. I do agree with everyone on the positives and negatives of the show. I want to comment on the poster who dissected every category for us. The reason why people are asking about Minks and Turner's exits is because its not that hard to come up with a reason for their absence. They could say Mr. Turner quit and Minks skipped high school. Hell even I make explainations for myself when bill collectors come to my door. "He's next door". Its simple. I also never really saw Mr. Finney's place in show after they left middle school, or Shawn's relationship with his parents or where they were. None of this harmed show though. It remained good till the end minus the new character. I grew up on this show I'm kind of loyal to TGIF shows. Never Jumped.
Really it jumped the shark when Topanga became normal and when Eric become a total moron. The idea with Eric's character was he kept learning and becoming like smarter, but after college was totally comic relief.
Not Oscar material but very cute for a kids' show. The reason to watch the show--Eric (Will Friedle). Super funny actor and some gorgeous eye candy.
I think puberty definitely killed the show, and mostly when it came to Topanga. She started off kinda cute, but so annoying, especially to Corey. And then as she grew up, she turned into the hottest thing I've ever seen. Of course, this threw the producers, because they could not continue to carry on the premise of Corey not liking Topanga and running from her every time she came around him. At least they were smart enough to realize that nobody would seriously believe that a teenage boy would not want to be with someone that damn fine. She was still annoying at times, but damn if I wouldn't have just learned to deal with it. Unfortunately, anytime a premise of the show is killed that way, that dooms the show nine times out of ten; this is because the main thing that attracted people to the show is now lost, and now we must adapt to the same show, just with a new concept. And after a few years, often people don't care much to do that. But all in all, not that bad of a show, at least I don't think so.
How did Mr. Feeny always seem to land a job a Corey's next school. I mean he started as a funny junior high teacher and then somehow lands a job as principal in highschool and then wasn't he a dean in college? WTF. Once I left a grade I never saw my teacher again.
This show jumped sometime in Corey/Shawn/Tapanga's senior year. I can't quite pinpoint the moment, though, because everything started falling all at once like a mudslide. Before the Senior year, Eric was a bit goofy, but not ********. Early in the season, even the slightest hint of Eric's previous intellegence was lost. THEN, the show added Jack and Angela; I defy someone to convince me that was necessary! All of a sudden Shawn became committed, and he passed up Alyssa Oleynik (in the Valentine's Day episode) to be with Angela? Give me a break! The Jr. High and High School years were tolerable because (a) it was acceptable for TGIF, and (b) it had a childish charm to it. While the characters grew gradually, the show changed rapidly. By the time Tapanga proposed to Corey, it was a completely different show altogether.
Who develops a physical dependence on alcohol in one week? Answer: Sean Hunter. Rider Strong must be hanging his head in shame for having had to act in this episode. Let's take this episode at face value for a second. Sure, it's possible that someone might become so enamoured with alcohol after their first usage such that they look for the first chance to drink again. Indeed, many alcoholics report just this phenomenon. But come on!! After Sean spends a week getting pissed his friends/family suggest he seeks rehab!! The kid got carried away, but let's keep things somewhat realistic. While alcoholism may run in families, it generally progresses just a bit slower than the writers of this episode suggest. Even other horribly unbelievable tv drunks like Kirsten Cohen and Bailey Salinger gave better performances.
This show never jumped. People say it got to dramatic in the end but they still made humor of everything. Like the 7 yrs into the future episode. It was a dramatic piont in time that was so ridiculously hilarious b/c of Plays w/ Squirrels. And if you don't have any clue what Plays w/ Squirrels is then you have no right to vote b/c you evidently know nothing about this show. Eric was amazing all the way to the end. Those who hate him are the kind of people who hate Napoleon Dynamite and Monty Python and I have no respect for you b/c you do not understand real humor. Tapanga never got ugly and if you think that you are a shallow jerk. I love this show and always will.
Although I was already 20 ish when the series began I always apprecaited, still enjoy reruns of it. I applaud the way young romance was handled on the show and consider Cory and Topanga perfect role models. Yeah the show was silly at times including the goofy wedding ep, but it was great too and I loved that Cory and Topanga married near the series end. I think BMW is a wonderful show for all ages , ripe with great actors, great storylines.
I was reading what was written and the most bodacious jump was missed. when feeney went to teach where cory et al went to college was a stretch. im a teacher and as much as i care about my students i dont go following them all over. were those his only students? and also when do students ever give a crap about their teacher that much. thank you i loved your class now let me move on and leave me alone. total garbage. only thing worse than that was the ending of mr. holland's opus. let's throw a gooing away party for the nut job music teacher. but i digress. feeney is cool but dude give em up already
I don't really have much against Cory and Topanga; I loved them. But their marriage marked an era of them becoming "adults" - something I didn't much appreciate. They shouldn't have been in college anyway.
I was just watching BMW on Disney last night. The whole paranoid Corey, sweet Shawn thing is annoying. How do they go crazy in college?! The last episode I watched was where Corey, Shawn and Topanga teamed against Rachel, Angela and Jack in practical jokes and everything broke down. I'm guessing it was a reference to the Civil War since it kept being mentioned. As I watch the later episodes on Disney, I am seeing the show get worse and worse.
Boy Meets World never really jumped, but it did take a turn for the worse during Seasons 5 when it was slowly but surely becoming a drama (Cory and Topanga breaking up, Cory kissing another girl, the whole brother situation with Shawn, the whole thing with Cory and Topanga wanting to have sex). I thought though, that even though Season 6 had it's fair share of drama (Shawn's father dying..ect), the last two seasons really made up for the crapiness Season 5 brought. I also liked how the show went through changes. The first 2 seasons were kind of childish considering the cast was young, Cory and Shawn acted like little boys and still hated girls, Topanga was "hippie" (though she dropped that mid-season 2). Then starting with Season 3, it began to focus more on Cory and Topanga's relationship and lost the "childish" edge to it, and gained more of an older teen appeal. This continued through-out Season 4...although Season 4 was a LOT funnier then Season 3- Season 3 at one point was like Season 5 with the drama- Season 4 was just crazy (The hair episode, Eric and that weird physcotic girl, the road trip thing). Season 5 was dramamtic and though was dumb with all the drama at times, it really showcased that the characters were maturing and changing. Then in the last 2 years, it became hilarious. Cory was hilarious because of his obsessive-complusiveness, Eric and Jack were idiots, Topanga was just hilarious...the only one not funny was Shawn, and it was odd, because in the early years he was the funniest character. Season 7, the final season,- was by far the best ("Looks like rain...at least I'm inside", the pregnant episode, the back to the future-type thing, the wedding, eric almost burning down the dorm). BMW was a fun show.
When they all went to college. Also there are many chracter actor changes. Such as Topanga's father. When they were young they had a slim looking nerd with glasses. When Corey and Topanga are getting ready to get married, we find that Topanga's mother and father are going through a divorce. Topanga's father now is a big looking italian with short black hair. I am I guess he could've dyed it, but how did he put on so much muscle in the years this show potrays? And his voice changed, it was much deeper. Also the father in the early years, was making instruments for such big musicans such as Bruce Springsteen. Seems to be a lot of money in making instruments for rich people... I mean considering a person made a guitar for John Fogerty for five thousand dollars. Well during the older years when the mother and father of Topanga are getting divorced. Corey and Shawn find him in a run down studio apartment. I find this rather interesting.
The show was great seasons 1&2, 3-5 were decent, 6&7 sucked it hard. Erik goes from girl hungry to slightly handicapped hoping that he could get a spin off by acting like an ass in the final seasons. I think that he wanted Matt Lawrence backstage. "airrag". Crazy Luther really let people know that the **** was hitting the fan. Some where in the middle of the season they realize that **** all is happening and they let that dick have an entire half hour. If you look closely you can see the producer crying in the background. That didn't just jump the shark, It went back to the water and played with the shark. But the shark wasn't even that desperate for food and it swam away. I love you all, class dismissed
I dont think Boy Meets World ever jumped the shark. Everyone talks about how its unbelievable that cory and topanga fell in love since they didnt like each other in the 6th grade but i think they explain that well enough. In the episode where topanga runs away from her parents after she moves cory says that they used to play together when they were kids but then eric told him it wasnt cool to be friends with girls and he threw dirt at her for years. Its highly believable in my opinion that when children are really young, and obviously dont think about life that much (like topenga did, which is why cory thought she was weird) then they could be friends, but when she grows up a little and develops an odd opinion on something, not to mention the fact that shes a girl in a time when guys arent supposed to be friends with girls, then obviously they could stop being friends for a while. But then, she grows up again and grows out of her wierd faze, which is again, understandable. The biggest problem with the show is continuity, like was said before but i dont think thats a big enough problem to say it jumped the shark. Also some people dont like the fact they added and got rid of characters as they went along like minkus, rachel, jack, etc. but thats COMPLETLEY understandable that as they grow up they would gain and lose friends, especially minkus since hes so brilliant he most likely wouldnt be taking the same classes as them.
I watched this show from the very begining. It was a good family show. It was a show about a kid growing up. It got dumb when topanga became normal and her and corey started dating. The also made the brother, eric, into a ******. When they were in middle and highschool shawn was a guy who got all the girls but, then he got into a serious relationship. Eric got into college even though they made him really stupid
To me it makes perfect sense that Topanga, for example, had changed after some years. She didn't necessarily have to stay weird all her life. And her weight-gaining isn't out of this world. Many skinny teenage girls grow up to be chubby adults. Yes, I accept, Feeny being their teacher evry year of their life was very surreal, but his character sure helped the story. More sex talks? what's weird about that? It seems very realistic...teenagers talking about sex. Cory worrying about everything? Well, can't say there isn't people like that out there. Shawn stopped being a troublemaker:once again, very normal. I still don't understand why Eric tarted acting so weird, but I enjoyed his character more after he started acting like a moron. I personally liked the show much more after they started college. I could identify myself more with their characters. I definetely loved the idea of adding Jack, Angela and Rachel to the show. By the way, what's wrong with Cory and Topanga getting married? I found it very interesting, especially all the things thay had to go through after they got married. To me it would've been too unrealistic to see Topanga still acting so weird after all those years, or seeing that shawn was still a troublemaker despite Turner's effort. What would be the point of Feeny's lessons and advice if after all those years the trio stayed exactly the same...not having learned anything! Great series finale! I love this show.
When all of the characters went to the SAME college and Mr. Feeny became a professor. After that point, the show was never the same. It started out as a fun and interesting look at a young man's journey through puberty and adolescense in suburban Philadelphia and morphed into a ridiculously unfunny comedy. Shawn becomes an intellectual and magically finds a long lost brother (Jack) who he lives with, Eric turns into a complete moron, Corey and Topanga get married while still in college and live together in the same dorm room, and Mr. Feeny becomes a college professor. For some reason, it wasn't terribly weird when Feeny followed them from 6th-12th grade, but becoming a professor overnight..COME ON!! Also, none of the characters did anything in college except hang out with eachother. During high school, Eric was always goofing off and trying to pick up girls, Shawn was with a different girl every week, and Corey was trying to decide if he really likes Topanga. When they got to college, a few new characters were introduced (Angela, Jack, and Rachel) but there was no story line that involved any of them individually, it was always them doing this as a group. The show should have gone off the air after they graduated high school, leaving the audience in suspense as to what ever happened to Corey, Topanga and the rest of the gang. This would have also been a great segway into a TV movie. Some may argue that other shows have done the exact same thing as Boy Meets World- have the characters graduate from high school and than all go to the same college (most notably Beverly Hills 90210 and Saved By The Bell). The difference between those shows and BMW in how they approached this change was the attitudes and values of the individual characters. In 90210, when they all the characters went to Cal U. there was still a bunch of different story lines. Brandon was still working on the school paper, Steve was still goofing off and trying to find his place in life, David was still into the music business, Donna was still a virgin etc. So although they all went to the same college, their characters did not change. On the terribly short lived SBTB the New Class - although a horrific show, the main SBTB characters did not change all that much. Zach was still as sly and powerful as ever, Screech was still his idiot self, and Slater was the jock of the group. And the show could develop story lines around each one. Where Boy Meets World failed at their college years attempt was the character progression. The characters suddenly changed for the worse and hence the show Jumped the Shark.
When angela showed up and ruined the show..I started noticing that when topanga and cory had problems angela would follow and suddenly say something corny like "We just can be together anymore". Atleast rachel was eye candy and jack and eric fed off of each others comedy. I watch the re-runs every night (or morning depending on if you have satellite) On disney,a real treat except for the college episodes.
The show kind of lost it's edge after Cory and Topanga got married. I mean, come on, they always say that they've been together since they were 2, yet I remember in grade school Cory hated Topanga. So therefore, that can't be true. I know in one episode he called the time he hated Topanga "the lost years" but then don't run around and tell each other that you have been in love since you were two if it's not true!! And who marries the person that they have been in love with since they were two anyway? I mean, how often does that really happen where the people are actually happy with their decisions and not just holding on to some teenage puppy love? I'm guessing not so much. Also, Cory and Topanga got very boring after they got married, they weren't with the times that most of the audience that watched Boy Meets World was. I found them bland, and they were about the same age I was. It almost seemed harder for them to relate to everyone because they were at such a different stage in their lives than most of the audience that watched the show. Although I must admit that the last episode was one of the best series finales that I have EVER seen, very well written and made me choke up; if only the last season was that well written. I also thought that all of the characters that were brought to the table in college/towards the end of high school (Angela, Jack, Rachel) all held some significance in the show and appriciated them being on the show. The last season of Boy Meets World though was just BORING and they should have stopped while they were ahead. But other than that, I really liked the time that they were in college; Shawn really seemed to grow up and become more aware of who he was, Eric was halarious (although he appeared to be more stupid), Cory became more of a prude, and Topanga became more "normal". Everyone changes in their lives and I think it's kind of cool how the characters evolved with the show. Regardless of the show jumping the shark after they got married, I still love watching reruns of Boy Meets World and have some of the seasons on DVD.
The show jumped the shark when they went to college and became a soap opera. Sean got into one relationship and they broke up. They should have looooooooong time ago because its the same ******** relationship. And Eric has'nt had a single girl because he went to college to late. And cory was in a long relationship with topanga, which by the way gained fifty pounds, and is weird. If I were Cory I'd leave after the third season.Eric just can't admit that he's a two year old ******, and I would'nt be surprised if he would turn out to be gay. they skipped two grades, I would'nt be surprised if minkus or topanga which by the way gained fifty pounds and is weird skipped a couple of grades, but not Cory or Sean. (He should not have ladies on him.) Their room's are decorated like five year old's room's. How did minkus come back on the graduation episode, where did he go. And why did morgan leave for like two seasons and then come back as a different actor, but the worst episode was the marriage episode I mean the show is about dating not marriage, but everything I said negative, keep the reruns running for it's still the greatest show on television even if it's canceled.
The guys started to grow up on the show...but suddenly they were jumping from grade school to high school to college all in about 7 years...HUH?!?!? but dispite this, i still LOVE this show!! ITS MY FAVORITE lol...i know im a loser
Alright, I'm fairly forgiving of some of the more typical Jump-the-Shark conventions in this show. The introduction of Jack, for instance - while the long-lost-brother deal is usually the kiss of death for a show - made sense. It was put in context, and Jack provided a good foil for Shawn in a way that even Cory really couldn't. Topanga and Cory getting married...well, it was about freakin' time. Even Shawn's perpetual angst worked within the context of the series...sometimes, anyway. But there was really no excuse for just how idiotic Eric became. He had always been a slacker, but he was never *that* clueless and socially ********. The writers also don't understand that you can't introduce a "catchphrase" in the latter part of a series: "FEEH-NAY!" was not something Eric tended to yell out in high school, so it made *no* sense when they got to college. His character went from fun to supremely annoying.

If you ask Rider Strong (Shawn), he believes that Cory and Topanga getting married (http://www.vanityfair.com/online/oscars/2011/05/25-questions-for-boy-meets-worlds-rider-strong) when they did was the "bone the fish" moment.

Q: Did Corey Matthews and Topanga get married too young? Divorce rates are very high for those who get married before the age of 20.

A: This was a huge debate. ABC actually did an Internet poll for if they should get married. Michael Jacobs, the creator of the show, pushed for that. Because he said that we were going to get them married, and ABC was like, “You can’t do it. They’re too young.” And he said, “Put it out on the Internet and do a poll.” And they did and people wanted them to get married. So that’s why we did it. I think a lot of people agree that was the “jump the shark” moment. Because they got married in the middle of our last season as opposed to ending the show with their marriage.

Here's a couple of articles that I've found that goes a lot deeper into pinpointing when BMW jumps the shark. One of them involves the recurring character Trini (http://www.scary-crayon.com/spectare/bmwtrini/), played by Brittany Murphy (RIP:():
Or, y'know, maybe not -- I'm really just reaching for a way to end the article, since I could go on about how very good the show used to be and how very very bad it became and how very very very great Trini was for a very very very very long time. But remember how I suggested that the show jumped the shark when Cory and Topanga got together? Note that <3 Trini <3Trini played a significant role in that development, as she was an active participant in Shawn's scheme to unite the two lovebirds. Note also that a major reason for the show's decline in later years stemmed from the main characters' drastic personality changes -- one of which involved Cory becoming a neurotic jerk. But if Trini had stayed, Cory's increasingly unpleasant disposition might at the very least have been tempered, because everyone knows you can't have a main character on a family sitcom treat a recurring character like *beep* forever (villains notwithstanding). Trini might have kept Topanga grounded as well, since in a sense she served to remind us of the quirky background from which the former vegetarian hippie originally came. But most importantly, had Trini stuck around -- and provided that she wasn't similarly replaced by a zany pod person -- "Boy Meets World" would at least have had one sincere, amusing, and likable character who helped her friends even when they groaned at her approach and suddenly overcame crippling fevers just so that they could get the hell away from her. Even if the world that Cory Matthews made had continued its transformation into a wacky, moronic, retconned wasteland, it would have been better had Trini been a part of it.

There was no struggle on my part to watch the first four seasons—in fact, it was difficult to get me to stop watching. But then came season five (which livened things up by throwing one of Joey Lawrence’s younger brothers into the mix), in which the show began to display obvious signs of strain. In particular, the episode “No Guts, No Cory,” which first aired on November 7, 1997, felt like the show’s ‘jump the shark’ moment. While there certainly had been elements of implausibility and fantasy on the show before (like the episode where Cory kind of turns into a werewolf), the show had previously been based in something that felt wholly bounded in reality. This episode abandons that principle entirely, as we are greeted by Salem the Cat from Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Why Salem is here, on the wrong show, I cannot say, but this talking cat decides to transport the entire cast to the 1940s in the midst of World War II. The plot is muddled, but it predictably revolves around Cory doing something to get back with Topanga. After this episode, things start to hit the proverbial fan and the show’s writers noticeably begin to throw everything at the wall to see what would stick. For example:

· Previously ‘chill’ older brother Eric, turns into an insufferable, brainless dolt (http://tricycleoffense.wordpress.com/2013/07/25/artifacts-from-the-past-7-seasons-of-boy-meets-world/) (who also happens to be an expert in art history for an episode, then later gets fat for comic effect);
· There is a murder mystery episode, modeled after Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt (who apparently dated Will Friedle (Eric) at the time);
· Once he is discovered as a great actor, Eric gets his own TV show in Hollywood (self-referentially titled “Kid Gets Acquainted With Universe”);
· The main characters conveniently graduate high school two years earlier than they should have so we can go ahead and move on to the bigger, better world of college;
· Shawn’s father dies and returns in several episodes as a ghost in order to provide guidance to his son;
· There is the time-honored tradition of adding a baby to save a struggling show when Amy gets pregnant (which she seems to neglect for the remainder of the series); also, there’s the addition of red-headed Rachel for the final two seasons for no real reason; and
· Yet another visit to the 1940s occurs when Topanga gets sucked through a time portal in the closet into a Casablanca-esque piano bar (no, really).

One scenario, in particular, serves as a fitting microcosm of the trouble with the latter days of Boy Meets World. In “Road Trip” from season six, Shawn, in an attempt to cope with his father’s death, takes Cory along in his family’s motor home where he reveals to his best friend that he is going away for good. Because I care about these characters and because this course of events is important to the overall story, I am engaged in how this occurrence will play out. But then, out of nowhere, we are introduced to a desperate band of singing ladies called Nobody’s Angel (a real group, it turns out). They perform a full song and dance that goes on forever while Cory and Shawn sit mouths agape in awe of this out-of-nowhere discovery of musical genius. There is no irony here and the whole episode feels awkward and off-putting. I could barely watch. Moments like this one, along with the shameless efforts to incorporate timely pop culture references (Eric can do all the South Park voices!), really made the last few seasons a chore to watch. By the final seasons, the show and its characters were like houseguests, once welcome, who now just wouldn’t leave.

If it ended at the wedding we wouldn't have gotten the finale, which is one of the show's best episodes, flashbacks aside.

No, I'd say it never jumped the shark.
