I have figured out what was lacking in this series: a studio audience for Joan Davis, who seemed like she would have thrived with the energy of an audience to play for. I've seen a handful of episodes and they have the feel of watching a comedy movie instead of a situation comedy series.

Besides a studio audience, she also needed much better writers and a stronger supporting cast. The supporting characters were pretty bland and not too believable, and the scripts were way over the top and illogical.

Despite the plots, Joan always found a way to make the show hilarious. Very underrated comedy IMO. It's a crime that this show never got a mainstream season by season DVD release.
