View Full Version : Why does Family Ties Theme song sound alot like the theme song to Growing Pains
Neutronman67 09-18-2013, 08:20 AM OK so i listened to the theme song to Family Ties and i think it has alot of soul and jazz to it then i listened to Growing Pains and that also has alot of soul music and jazz to it, i think both theme intro songs sound almost alike its funny, i enjoy the Growing Pains theme intro the best i have heard it thousands of time it fits the show very well i must say, does anybody else agree with me that Family Ties theme and Growing Pains theme songs sound almost completely the same ???
Marvo301 09-18-2013, 01:48 PM They don't really sound the same to me. But I'm not surprised that you would find similarities between the two since both shows debuted around the same time and were both family sitcoms.
MacLeaper 09-24-2013, 05:56 PM I love both "Family Ties" and "Growing Pains", but I don't think their theme songs sound the same at all. However, I do love both of the theme songs.:)
robyrob 09-24-2013, 07:22 PM which ear are you listening to them with?
Mr. Television 09-24-2013, 07:34 PM " Show me that smile again"
"What would we do baby without us"
Nope doesn't sound the same. lol
Ryan Chamberlain 09-24-2013, 11:02 PM I don't think so. Especially when you listen to the full song. It was actually released as a radio single. I have it on my iPod. I want it to be my wedding song. Odd, I know. But, it's a great tune. (The Family Ties theme, not the Growing Pains one.)
visaman666 09-25-2013, 12:06 AM I think your confusing it with the Mr. Belvedere/Whose The Boss themes.
Tubehead 09-25-2013, 08:41 AM I always heard that growing pains tried rip off family ties their both similar in many ways I always liked family ties better then growing pains I never could get into growing pains
Neutronman67 09-30-2013, 01:01 PM I had a hard time getting into Growing Pains but i forced myself to watch the compete season 1 DVD and by the 3rd and 4th episode i was hooked their is actually guy named boner in the show what were the producers thinking lol
the reason i think family ties and Growing Pains sould alike is both the men singing the song sould alike in vocal cords.
MacLeaper 10-03-2013, 01:41 PM Richard Stabone's nickname is Boner on "Growing Pains". The "Boner" nickname comes from his last name. Yes- not really in the best taste, but then on the other hand- it does seem very realistic that teenage boys would nickname another guy, "Boner".
Ryan Chamberlain 10-03-2013, 03:02 PM The fact that his name was Boner was the funniest thing ever to me when I was like 9 and watching GP reruns. .
Sadly, back in 2010. The guy who played Boner killed himself.
Neutronman67 10-16-2013, 12:16 PM Richard Stabone's nickname is Boner on "Growing Pains". The "Boner" nickname comes from his last name. Yes- not really in the best taste, but then on the other hand- it does seem very realistic that teenage boys would nickname another guy, "Boner".
Boner might not be a word that teenage boys in middle school or high school would call a guy it would be two awkward weird not to mention kinda perverted, their is no way a guy that is nicknamed Boner or erection is going to be able to get a girlfriend in his lifetime lol.
MacLeaper 10-16-2013, 03:18 PM Nonetheless, it's funny and memorable. I honestly don't usually think about it too much- it wasn't just Mike that called him that. Eddie did of course, but I'm pretty sure Carol and other members of the Seaver family called him Boner, even Maggie and Jason. (Or sometimes they might just call him "Bone". "Family Ties" had a similar phenomenon with Skippy, who was also sometimes just called "Skip". Of course, Skippy is a lot less objectionable than Boner. Oh well- there are certainly worse nicknames out there. And if Boner didn't have a girlfriend, I don't think it was because of his nickname- more like his personality that the girls didn't seem to be attracted to. I seem to recall he had some dates with girls on the show though.)
Neutronman67 10-22-2013, 06:19 AM Walter from The Cosby Show was named CockRoach thats a far worse nickname then Boner in my theory even clair makes fun of his nickname in one episode, i wonder if Tina from Dance Mania became his girlfriend after he danced with her in the episode, i think Tina would make walter change his name from cockroach to another nickname.
boechsner 10-22-2013, 11:37 AM The Family Ties theme and the Growing Pains theme do not sound the same to me. However, I always did think the Kate & Allie theme and Family Ties theme had similar qualities.
MacLeaper 10-22-2013, 12:08 PM Yeah- Cockroach on The Cosby Show, Weasel on Family Matters, Boner on Growing Pains- there seems to be a thing with sitcoms and having some memorable characters with kinda crazy nicknames.
