what the hell made any of those guys funnier and cooler fathers than Patrick Duffy was as Frank Lambert??? i'll admit i have no idea wtf charles ingalls is but that show sounds like a chick show from the title.


Tom Bosley did a great job but he was never a huge part of Happy Days...that was Richie and Fonzy. and then Chochi sadly.

Patrick Duffy is up there, but like Charles (Zoneboy) said, there are better contenders at least IMO. And let's not forget Hugh Beaumont who played Ward Cleaver from Leave It To Beaver; the quintessential great father if ever there was one.

(And btw, I like Step By Step very much. But my favorite characters onthe show were JT and lovably goofy Cody - actually everyone was good on the show! Another show for my Antenna TV wish list- now if Antenna put SBS on its lineup I'd do cartwheels.)

I didn't say they were funnier or cooler, my point is that right now they are among those that I would prefer to Frank Lambert and not just the characters but their respective shows as well. A few others I would currently rank ahead of F.L.

Mike was an awesome dad! He was the sole breadwinner, supporting 8 other people. His wife loved him, his kids respected him... Aside from being a bit corny (like everyone else on the show), he was a good man.

When you say "best dad," I guess you mean "coolest dad," but those are different things. There's no way Red Foreman or Phillip Banks would be the best dad.

I agree with some of the men named above. Other great dads are Robert Petrie, Tony Micelli, Cliff Huxtable, and James Evans.

Actually, Vivian was a Professor (at least in the earlier seasons). I'm sure she earned a salary for that.

BTW, how was Uncle Phil "more of an uncle" than a dad? That's a really dumb statement. He was equally a father and an uncle. However, if you want to argue (which you seem to enjoy), he was more of a dad than an uncle since he had 4 children and 1 nephew.

This list is great. I liked Step by Step a lot but I would not put Patrick Duffy down as one of the best TV fathers of all time. In fact, when TV guide listed their top 50 greatest TV dads, Patrick Duffy wasn't even on the list. Then again, they had Archie Bunker on the list and Bill Cosby was #1. :crazy:

Mike Brady,at # 14,is an architect,with a big 2 story house & a maid,not lame.

To win at being best TV father is way more then being the coolest & funniest.
Archie Bunker was a good father and was always looking out for his little girl.
Even Homer Simpson is a better father,coming in at 35
Herman Munster is at 19,and he is a gravedigger.

^I totally agree with you about Archie Bunker. Everyone may not agree with his views but you HAVE TO admit he did love his family and would've done anything to protect them.


I think Crank Lambert was certainly one of the best because he truly cared about not only his children but he treated his stepchildren the same as his own.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned Carl Winslow from "Family Matters". He is one of my favorites.

^^^ I love him too.! I love all of the Miller Boyett dads that I watched back in the day, Danny and Jesse from Full House, Carl from Family Matters, Frank from Step By Step, and Larry and Balki from Perfect Strangers. :) :) :)

I didn't care much for Danny, actually. He seemed to always overreact over the smallest things, that the girls did. Or he would punish them for things, which were not even their fault.

I was thinking about "Best TV Dads" recently, and if I had to pick one to be my Dad, it would be Frank. Patrick Duffy.

He was a cool Dad, but you could tell he really loved his kids and was always there for them without being too overprotective. He was funny and kind and I can't think of a better one.
