"Y&R" Hires New Head Writers

CBS’ "The Young and the Restless" is making another Head Writer change.

Two women will now hold the top job: Shelly Altman, who was promoted, and Jean Passanante, who has written for several ABC daytime sudsers. Additionally, Tracey Thomson has been upped to Co-Head Writer.

The women replace Josh Griffith, who was named Head Writer in 2012. Griffith played a key role in addressing the death of Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) on the sudser this summer.

“Shelly has been an important part of the Y&R writing team since joining the show last year and Jean brings with her a wealth of daytime writing experience. We are excited to have these two talented daytime veterans leading our writing team at Y&R,” said Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President, U.S. Programming at Sony TV, in a statement.

“We are also thrilled to have Tracey take on a new role and we look forward to her creative input to the show.”

Altman’s been at "Y&R" since 2012.

Passanante has written for "Another World", "All My Children", "As the World Turns", "One Life to Live" and "General Hospital".

Thomson comes from "General Hospital".

Nice to see JFP has her 'yes-men' in place.

OMG, might as well bring down the curtain. Jean P. was the kiss of death for ATWT. She turned my favorite soap into " As Janet's World Turns".

The current state of Y&R is the best that I remember it being in quite a long time.

Unfortunately, it will never be the same without Jeanne Cooper, and it really does suck having Michelle Stafford off the show...but they have quite a few strong key players right now who are really making it happen.

You would think they could get someone better than Jean Passante. I guess it could be worse, it could be Megan McTavish, Leah Laiman or David Kreizman.
