Do any of you go looking for old coins and stuff with a metal detector?
I have had a metal detector for more than 20 years but only used it about a dozen times. I never really thought of any good places to use it until I saw some people on Youtube hunting around old buildings and landfills. There is this main road in my town that is about 20 miles long and was originally a trail back in the 1700s for Indians and fur trappers,I think I will check out some of the areas along that road and see if I can find anything. I might even go into those dangerous areas on the outskirts of the city and check some of those old empty buildings, some of those are a couple of hundred years old. I just have to make sure they are not occupied by crackheads or loaded with asbestos. I might bring someone with me and we can post the adventure on Youtube.

I have a metal detector. I haven't used it in a couple of years. It's fun especially when you find something. It's getting harder to find places to explore though. Plus you need to ask permission. The beach area around lakes are great when the tide is low.

Schoolyards were the best, especially under the swings, slides and monkey bars. Kids are always losing coins. When I was a young me and a couple of friends would systematically work over a few schoolyards in my area, after we found enough coins (Usually around $3,00 to $5.00 worth) we'd make a BEELINE to the local Penny Arcade. It was a great way to acquire some "Pinball Money".  :rotflmao: :brent

For the past few weeks I have been exploring different places to metal detect and have been filming them with a small VHS recorder since I don't have a cell phone. So far it hasn't been very profitable, A buffalo nickel, mercury dime and a bunch of wheat pennies but it sure has been interesting.I started going along the river and got chased by a dog but I did find a cool pocket knife. Then I went to this area where there are many crumbling old buildings, I thought the whole area was deserted until I went behind one and bumped into a cop, we scared the crap out of each other. He asked, " Whatcha doin back here? " When I told him I was just making a video for Youtube he said, " I wouldn't be going around here without a gun if I were you, this place gives me the creeps " I watched him go into another old building and wondered what he was doing, maybe looking for bodies or drugs because I never did see his car anywhere. I know doing this crap is dangerous but there is a thrill in it. I will have someone put all this on Youtube since I don't know how to do all that editing and have some music put on there that I won't get sued over.

I would like to see your video. Strange that police man was there and no car to be seen. A ghost?:D I get thrilled even when I find a penny.
