Hi, everyone!

New to the board!

So, heres the deal. I am on my college's Speech team and one of the events is a dramatic duo. My best friend had her HEART set on doing a piece from the Golden Girls, because she loves the show and I do, too. Besides that, it will also be new for the judges to see because they normally get modern shows. Definitely not the Golden Girls!

However, we are having a hard time finding scenes or episodes that focus on just two of the characters! It has to be about 10 minutes in length, we can cut other characters out for the most part, and we don't mind which two, necessarily. But, we would REALLY love some help finding scenes or episodes that are heavily about the relationship between two of these wonderful women!

So, I figured I'd post on here and see what everyone's favorite scenes and episodes are!

Thank you so much for any help you can offer me, even it its just a push in the right direction! Right now we settled on a piece from the musical Wicked, but no singing is allowed (apparently), so we are speaking all the parts and its just not fun!

Thanks!
Kelsey

One of my favorite scenes is when Dorothy and Sophia are at the boardwalk and Sophia learns her Alzheimer's stricken friend won't be coming back. It is very touching. The same episode has an earlier scene with just those two where Dorothy tells Sophia about Alvin's diagnosis.

I just saw a scene today between Rose and Blanche that was pretty powerful. It was the episode where Rose discovers that she might have contracted HIV through a blood transfusion. In the discussion, Rose implies that AIDS should only happen to people like Blanche who sleep around and Blanche shoots her down, saying that "AIDS is not a bad person's disease; it is not God punishing people for their sins."

Another great scene to me the scene between Sophia and her friend, Martha. Martha wants to commit suicide and wants Sophia there with her when she does it. Once there, Sophia is able to talk her out of it. A very touching and emotional scene from that episode.

One of my favorite scenes was on the 100th episode when Sophia has to do a DNA to prove Dorothy was her daughter. Sophia tells the story of Dorothy's first day of school. How Sophia kept an eye on Dorothy for a few hours outside the class just to make sure she was O.K. That was very well written.

If you're allowed to do a comic piece, Dorothy and Rose's "cupcakes" scene from the "Midsummer Night's Dream" episode might work. Bea Arthur's acting in that scene is brilliant, especially the expression on her face when she says, "My cupcakes are moist and delicious. Men LOVE my cupcakes."
