Meet Colonel Meow, a cat in Los Angeles whose fur has set a new world record at 9 inches long. The 2-year-old Himalayan-Persian cross-breed already has a huge following online. He has his own website, a YouTube channel boasting more than 1.3 million views and even a Facebook page with almost 180,000 likes. Now he's the holder of the Guinness World Record for longest fur, according to The Associated Press.

Los Angeles residents Anne Marie Avey and Eric Rosario came upon Colonel Meow at a Petco adoption event. The couple told Guinness they brush Colonel Meow's record-breaking fur three times a week. And no, they don't use any hair products on it. "Literally everything in the house has hair on it, including us. I feel like I’m always vacuuming," Avey told Guinness.

Colonel Meow is a beautiful cat. I love Persians. They're such a gentle breed. He's got a good future ahead of him. :)

Hey! I'm only kidding! Haven't you ever seen these kinds of Bumper Stickers on Cars (Or better yet Pickup Trucks with Gun Racks in the back of the cab.)

^I think joking about eating a cat or dog is in poor taste. I know other countries eat them, but here in the USA we cherish them as beloved pets. We think of them as part of our family.

Everybody jokes differently. I can see my bother joking like that and they have both dogs and cats. :)

Thousands of people all around the world are mourning the loss of super cat Colonel Meow, who died Wednesday night.

Colonel's "mom," Anne Marie, posted the sad news on Facebook on Thursday morning, saying "Colonel Meow passed away last evening. I will post more about the details when I've had a few days to grieve. Thank you so much for your understanding, Minions. Your love and support has meant the world to us both."

In November, "minions" all around the world sent prayers and healing thoughts when Colonel was critically ill and in the hospital.

Anne Marie posted on Facebook that Colonel was in the hospital and doctors could not figure out what is wrong with him. It was finally determined that it was his heart.

A fundraising campaign raised $15,000 in six hours for Colonel's care. He did get well enough to go home, but now comes the sad news.

Colonel gained worldwide fame for his crazy look and "angry" expression, though in reality he was big creampuff. He loved a good drink of scotch, did NOT like Justin Bieber, and h!"ad a love-hate relationship with sister dog Boots ("Damn it, Boots!").

He was adopted by owners Anne Marie Avey and Eric Rosario several years ago after he was found abandoned by the side of the road and taken in by Seattle Persian and Himalayan Society. They lived in Seattle but later moved to Los Angeles.

In September, the Himalayan/Persian mix set a Guinness World Record for the longest fur. He is featured in the Guinness World Records 2014 book

He has more than 340,000 faithful fans - "minions" - on his Facebook page.
