I don't like them only one I can watch is the big bang theory it gotten dirty too. the new robin Williams comedy the lucky one looks funny im afraid it be dirty too iwish they would make one for the family I Remember when they had tgif they showed family matter full house boy meets world and perfect strangers why not going back to tgif Fridays the only family show right now is duck Dynasty I only seen parts of it it looks funny my anut like it a lot I know lots of people like it caused it Christian family show I wish they would make more shows like duck dynasty .
Dale Key 08-29-2013, 11:34 AM I like them for the most part. Even as a child in the 90s I hated those Family Values sitcoms that were most of what was on, so I grew up on Nick @ Nite. Lucy, Mary, Bewitched & Jeannie were far better than anything on TGIF. I also think Boy Meets World in addition to being extremely cheesy and overrated was kind of dirty as well.

Marvo301 08-29-2013, 01:37 PM Let's just say there is a reason my collection of 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's sitcoms on DVD continues to grow. I'd much rather watch them than what currently passes for comedy on TV!
LUNCH 08-29-2013, 02:00 PM Modern comedies, dramas etc...I don't watch them.I don't even know the names of most of them.
Mr. Television 08-29-2013, 07:00 PM They're not as good as the old ones but there are some pretty good ones. The Middle is very underrated as is Raising Hope. On Cable Melissa & Joey is pretty good. Of Course TBBT is the best and I love Mike & Molly. I just don't think you're going to get a ton of great sitcoms anymore. The golden age has died but it's better than it was a decade ago.

same here. i just don't care much for current tv shows, especially dramas and sitcoms. i prefer the older shows from 70s to early 00s.
Patty Duke 08-30-2013, 01:40 AM I wish my husband and I liked the shows offered today but we just don't. Tonight we couldn't find anything on so we played Scrabble. There is never anything on weekends and since I'm off we plan to hit the road on our bikes with friends. :D

I think that if I wrote like you do, with no punctuation or capitalization, I would turn off the TV and try to learn to write so people could actually understand me.

Quit picking on him. There are no spelling police here.
comedyfreak 08-31-2013, 03:55 AM I don't like todays comedies as much as I did in the 90's. The ones I really like are Raising Hope, and The Middle. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Robin Williams comedy, along with The Goldbergs.

Why not just watch Disney Channel? That's where all of the "family"-esque comedies have gone.
I don't see why every comedy needs to be family-orientated. They weren't in the '90s either...
tvfan25 08-31-2013, 06:56 AM I think they all stink except The Big Bang Theory and Melissa And Joey.

Because most of the Disney Channel sitcoms suck. They're geared towards kids not families. GLC is about the only family comedy over there and it's ending soon. Maybe Girl Meets World will replace it but it would be the only one. I don't think all sitcoms should be family comedies but there should be a balance between the two.
Skywalker 08-31-2013, 03:11 PM Great:
The Big Bang Theory
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Good:
Last Man Standing
Suburgatory
The Middle
TV Junk Food - Easy to take, easy to forget:
2 Broke Girls
Hot in Cleveland
Melissa and Joey
Anger Management
Sullivan and Son
Neighbors

I guess, but I think the same argument could be made for most TGIF/90s family-era sitcoms...few people would call Family Matters or Saved By the Bell great shows.
Tubehead 08-31-2013, 11:35 PM I like last man standing nowhere near as funny as home improvement

Are you aware that correcting one's punctuation, capitalization and spelling is against the rules here?
jimpickens 09-01-2013, 01:43 AM To me comedy over the past 20 years has been nothing but a wasteland of with a few exceptions one joke wonders and dirty/toilette humor the hey days were the 50s-60s-and to an extent the 70s and 80s.
yankeesrj12 09-01-2013, 12:40 PM I love The Big Bang Theory and Mike and Molly. I also enjoy Parks and Recreation (just watched all of season five OnDemand) and sometimes, Two and a Half Men (although its clearly past its prime).
I think the upcoming fall crop boasts a number of possible solid comedies, such as Mom, The Millers, Welcome to the Family, The Michael J. Fox Show, The Crazy Ones, and Trophy Wife.
lucy&vivfan 09-01-2013, 10:55 PM As a previous poster on here said, and I second, THANK GOD sitcoms from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s are out on DVD now....otherwise, there would be nothing to watch as far as sitcoms. Everyone goes ga-ga over "Hot in Cleveland" which is nothing more than a generic take-off of "The Golden Girls". "The Big Bang Theory"? Sorry, don't get it. And can they please turn off that horrible laugh track? It sounds like a bunch of drunken people in a bar laughing through a megaphone.
Several of the dramas are good, but for the most part, Hollywood seems to have lost its sense of humor because its idea of comedy is just not funny anymore.

It's not a laugh track - The Big Bang Theory is filmed in front of a live studio audience. Bill Prady has stated this numerous times on Twitter.

Stop it. You don't know his story. Don't be a bully.
James28 09-02-2013, 01:59 AM Today's comedies are a source of heated debate. There is always the potential for a new multi-camera comedy on network television being bashed, which is why everyone has to watch single-camera comedies instead, although sometimes even the single-camera comedies get bashed themselves. If some people have to bash TV comedies, then why don't they just watch only TV dramas instead?
icecream 09-03-2013, 01:52 AM I guess, but I think the same argument could be made for most TGIF/90s family-era sitcoms...few people would call Family Matters or Saved By the Bell great shows. There are several non-TGIF/Disney type family comedies that the networks won't consider ordering more of anymore. Family Ties, Family Affair, Home Improvement, Different Strokes, Benson (not a family but family friendly), and Eight is Enough to name a few. Crude sexual humor is a favorite of the broadcast networks these days. Even on The Middle, easily the best current sitcom, I don't appreciate God's name constantly being used in vain. Family friendly dramas like The Waltons and Highway to Heaven also wouldn't be greenlit today. And The Waltons even won multiple Emmys.

I agree with you 100%.
Mace Dolex 09-04-2013, 04:42 PM I agree most of the current sitcoms are just too repetitive and not funny in gut busting sort of way, the only current show I watch that has gotten better is 2 Broke Girls I guess since it's just a simple dumb show and doesn't deal with "special episode" syndrome.
In fact sometimes I find myself watching the kiddie fare like Wizards Of Waverly Place, Suite Life On Deck that are a lot funnier, except for Dog With A Blog that's awful even by Disney standards.

Another thing about TBBT is that most of it's jokes make references to comic book references and sci-fi shows I don't know how the average non-comic book/sci-fi reader would have any knowledge of them.
Neutronman67 09-07-2013, 02:36 PM kenan thompson from the popular 90's kiddies shows All That and Kenan and Kel said that the reason shows are not good is bacause the producers are just looking for easy money in the 2000's decade, here is what i think if the producers sat down and planned a good friendly comedy show with no profanity and swear words that had similar qualities from the 70's 80's and early 90's sitcoms then people would be more then happy to tune in, they should make another show like the fresh prince of bel air and the cosby show something thats entertaining and not crappy and cheap trash for 30 minutes, the only show on TV at the moment before it is canceled that most people who are into nostalgia is the big bang theory good comedy show in my theory.
