Did J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Kill Worf TV Series?

Ever since the cancellation of the much-maligned "Enterprise", fans have wished for another "Star Trek" series to grace their television screens on a weekly basis. Turns out, they might have had their wish if it hadn't been for that pesky kid known as J.J. Abrams -- or, at least, that's the story according to one former "Trek" star.

In an interview with Big Shiny Robot, Michael Dorn -- who played surly klingon Worf in both "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" -- talked about the possibility of a brand new series focusing on his character.

"Last year, there was interest and I talked to a couple producers and we actually had a pitch meeting with Paramount and CBS," Dorn said.

So why haven't we heard more about this Worf series before now? "Business things got in the way in terms of the J.J. Abrams movie coming out, and CBS/Paramount and their relationship with J.J. Abrams," he explained.

"I don't think they wanted to step on his toes by putting a new series on, but it's not dead yet."

Firstly: Given the whole reboot of continuity that the Abrams movie brought, any potential TV series -- and definitely movie project -- set in the "old" continuity is probably pretty dead, let's be honest. There are, of course, always the spin-off novels for those who want to know what those characters are up to these days, anyway.

Secondly, what's with "Next Generation" stars trying to get new shows based on their characters off the ground? Just the other week, Jonathan Frakes was joking about a Rikers in Space series.

I hate how the new movies series is rendering any possibility of reviving the older characters pretty much moot, BUT...Worf was always a very boring character to me. I don't think the show would have lasted long, nor would any shows with just ONE of the old characters. The magic was in the ensemble (though I always preferred TOS to TNG).
