Lee Thompson Young -- who played the main character on Disney's "The Famous Jett Jackson" -- has died after what officials believe is a suicide ... TMZ has learned. He was 29.

Sources tell us Young's body was discovered with a gunshot wound that appears to be self-inflicted.

Young currently appears in the TNT show "Rizzoli & Isles" -- and we're told when he didn't show up to work this morning, staffers called the landlord of Young's L.A. home to check up on the actor.

We're told ... when the landlord opened the door, he discovered Young's body.


Young was a rising star in Hollywood. After he made it big as a Disney star, he went on to play running back Chris Comer in the 2004 movie "Friday Night Lights."

This is just devastating. He portrays one of my favorite characters on Rizzoli and Isles (Detective Frost) and the show will not be the same without him. I pray for his family and friends during this difficult time.

I use to love The Famous Jett Jackson!! So sorry to hear this. R.I.P. :(

I have seen some of "The Famous Jett Jackson" and he did a great job on that show. Of course, I also know Lee Thompson Young from his appearances as Cyborg on "Smallville". I didn't know he had been on "Rizzoli & Isles"- that seems to be a pretty cool kinda modern day version of "Cagney & Lacey" (and it also stars Bruce McGill, who of course, I still know as Jack Dalton on "MacGyver")
It's sad to see someone who seemed to have such a promising career end it all. May God comfort his family in this sad time.:(
