I don't know if any of you watched Xena, but I used to and my favorite actor from the show, Kevin Smith, (who played Ares) passed away last weekend. I was just so sorry to hear about it because he was such a talented actor. He left behind a wife and three children. I just thought maybe some of you would like to know.

He died in a fall while filming a movie in Beijing.

I remember Saturday morning, somebody IMed me saying "Kevin Smith is dead." I almost lost it, because I thought he was talking about my Kevin Smith, the writer and director of Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Clerks: The Cartoon, and Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, as well as the upcoming Jersey Girl and Fletch Won.

What a shame.
Ares was a great character. He will be missed.
Word is that Kevin Smith was supposed to begin fiming a movie with Bruce Willis next month.

He was filming in Beijing, China, and while he was waiting for filming to start one evening he climbed on top of one of the sets, slipped and fell. They said it was about a three story drop, onto solid rock - he hit his head a few times and went into a coma. He died a few days later.

No it's not the American writer/director Kevin Smith, it's the actor from New Zealand. He was very handsome, and I was really looking forward to seeing what he'd do after Xena. My sister called me right away, because she knew I'd want to hear it from her - I don't take death very well.

Some of his costars are setting up a trust fund - so far Lucy Lawless and Michael Hurst (Ioalus from 'Hercules') are involved. Nice to know he won't be forgotten.
