View Full Version : This show reminds me of... irehtman 08-16-2013, 08:49 AM Married With Children, IMO! DJM77 08-16-2013, 09:21 PM I knew what you were going to say before I even clicked on the thread. I think this show reminds everyone of Married With Children. irehtman 08-20-2013, 11:33 AM Nikki and Off Centre are the other examples, but they should have transferred from WB to FOX or FX back then! TMC 02-23-2019, 09:52 PM I think that the key difference between both shows is that MWC was more satirical while UEA was a more deliberate attempt at being crass and crude. Also, UEA may have lacked the emotional center of caring about the Malloy family like you did with the Bundys. TMC 02-28-2021, 12:09 AM I knew what you were going to say before I even clicked on the thread. I think this show reminds everyone of Married With Children. Is it a bit of a misnomer to say that UEA was right from the start, meant to be a MWC knock off? At first, it was supposed to be about a married couple splitting up and living in separate houses while co-parenting their kids. Mr. Floppy, the talking stuffed bunny was only supposed to be a once-an-episode gag and the kids were just for the background. But pretty soon, Nikki Cox and Kevin Connelly stole the show and it became about their characters and their high school/college hijinks. Also, MWC which gave all of their characters focus, UEA ultimately became "The Nikki Cox Show" featuring her crazy father, idiot brother, Mr. Floppy, her cute little brother, and her annoying mother, who was killed and resurrected only to be written off for good. It would be like if MWC made Christina Applegate the de facto lead instead of Ed O'Neill. |
