This show was really into physical violence, LOL. In the first episode, the Chief slaps Katie. Then when Julie smokes, the Chief slaps Julie. Nell slaps Samantha when she's worried the world will end. Then Samantha slaps Nell twice in that episode! Nell slaps Julie hard for going to the ski lodge with Johnathan. Julie slaps Johnathan for wanting to move into the Chief's room. Nell also slaps him. Did I miss any slaps?

This show may have the record for slap scenes. In addition, the Chief and sometimes Nell threatened more violence against the girls. The Chief takes off his belt and chases both Katie and Julie around the house until Nell calms him down. Samantha is also threatened with the belt for saying the "you know what" word. The Chief was so brilliant in that episode. You tell a kid they will get the spanking of their life, and then you say you are taking off your belt. That's really going to get a kid out of the bathroom!! Brilliant Chief, you're a quick one!!

I think the Chief threatened Samantha the most. Besides the time mentioned above, another time he orders her to stop throwing her ball against the wall and says if she doesn't stop that she will be doing all of her sitting down standing up! Poor Samantha must have gotten it some off-screen because in one episode she comments that it is murder when the Chief spanks you. I bet it was!! I can't understand why he thought he needed to use a belt. Wouldn't his hand have been sufficient?

But the Chief wasn't the only one who resorted to violence. In the episode where Katie steals Julie's boyfriend, Nell threatens to spank Julie. And Nell would grab the girls and be rough with them sometimes. The episode where they had the best chance for an awesome slap scene would have been where Samantha put Joey in blackface. If Nell was ever going to slap Samantha, this would have been the time!! She slapped Julie pretty hard at the ski lodge, but this one would have been harder. What a missed opportunity!!

One of the things that you mentioned in your post is situations in which physical violence was threatened. Well, I guess you could make a case that this happened in the first-season episode the "Emergency". When the busy body on the pay phone refused to give in, Nell said, "lady I'm about to reach out and touch someone"! For those of you who do not remember the early ads for Bell Telephone, this was a play on words regarding them. She was making a reference to their slogan and, at the same time telling the lady what she will do to her if she does not get off of the phone. Because this topic has now been brought up, next I am going to bring to the top of the page, one of my older threads pertaining to this episode and this situation. See you in a minute!

I think the Chief threatened Samantha the most.
Probably because Samantha was the most bratty and also the most annoying!
