KatieAnn 08-12-2013, 06:50 PM The channels mentioned that air Bonanza, Bewitched and WKRP - I don't have those channels and I haven't seen those shows on air for at least five years, probably closer to ten.

The question/title reads "Classic TV shows that haven't been in syndication in years."
Well, for me, one of those shows is The Cosby show. The Cosby Show was in syndication years ago, but I haven't seen the Cosby Show in years.
Patty Duke 08-13-2013, 10:36 AM Family Ties is not on INSP but is on UP and sometimes the HUB.
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa. You are correct. I sometimes get those two networks mixed up since they are so similar.

And to the person who wanted to know 'if someone lived in the woods'. Many people do live in rural areas aka the woods, the boonies, the sticks and don't always have access to all the networks/channels available. I for one can't get Antenna TV, ME-TV etc. But I wish I could because I refer the older shows. Having a Dish is our only option.
Rookielove, If you have Dish Network The Cosby Show is on Centric channel 251. That is the only channel I can find it on at this time.
Coffeecup 08-13-2013, 11:16 AM I would like a 1950's- to a late 1970's show. Most of the shows in the 1980 to present,I either already seen or wasn't interested when it first aired. Some shows in the 1980's, the situation comedies were geared toward the tweens, Full House, Step by Step and frankly I did that type show with the Brady Bunch 10 -15 years earlier. I am little old for those shows. I was more involved as time went on with the soap opera type shows, Dallas etc.
William Hogan Jr 08-13-2013, 07:28 PM Topper, Broken Arrow,Hopalong Cassidy, The Tall Man, The Abbott and Costello Show.

that's coming to ME TV next month
I'll go with Dallas, Growing Pains, Small Wonder, Charles in Charge and Mama's Family.
I'm surprised that Dallas isn't being syndicated at the moment considering the recent TNT revival. Then again, I would be easy to suspect that prime time soap operas like that have a harder chance of being successful in syndication because of it's highly serialized nature.
biffbronson 08-20-2013, 02:35 AM I'll go with Dallas, Growing Pains, Small Wonder, Charles in Charge and Mama's Family.
I was lucky to be able to buy several seasons of Dallas at Big Lots stores for $5 each in recent years, along with Season 1 of Charles in Charge.
Your tastes seem to be similar to mine -- I remember always looking forward to Mama's Family on Saturday evenings back when it first ran.

I'm actually not surprised that Murphy Brown among those shows you listed isn't being syndicated a whole lot these days. Even though it was one of the most acclaimed and longest running sitcoms during the late '80s and on through the '90s, it has also aged extremely badly. It's a perfect example of why TV shows shouldn't be heavily typical/political, stuff like that is hard to translate as well long after it's time frame.
treky 08-20-2013, 02:41 AM I'm surprised that Dallas isn't being syndicated at the moment considering the recent TNT revival. Then again, I would be easy to suspect that prime time soap operas like that have a harder chance of being successful in syndication because of it's highly serialized nature.
yea, I read somewhere back in the 80s that's why they've hardly ever done well in syndication.
treky 08-20-2013, 02:47 AM ROWAN & MARTINS LAUGH-IN
YEARS ago Nick at Nite used to show edited, half hour episodes but as far as I know no one has shown it since then. It's not even on DVD:(
Coffeecup 08-20-2013, 09:17 AM I'm surprised that Dallas isn't being syndicated at the moment considering the recent TNT revival. Then again, I would be easy to suspect that prime time soap operas like that have a harder chance of being successful in syndication because of it's highly serialized nature.
Yes I read that continuing drama type show don't do as well as self contained episodes. I find it is best to watch the continuing drama shows when first aired.
Mr. Drucker 08-20-2013, 11:59 AM You know just yesterday I was wondering what's happened to the Kristy McNichol series "Empty Nest" with Richard Mulligan and "Family" which earned her an Emmy award.I just saw James Borderick, her "Family" dad as a detective in the classic action flick "Dog Day Afternoon".
biffbronson 08-20-2013, 04:33 PM I was a faithful viewer of Empty Nest. That would be a good choice for people today, it was pretty well written.
tbb033 08-20-2013, 05:25 PM I haven't seen Silver Spoons in ages. I think Nick@Nite had it for a while, but not very long.
I'd also like to see the Drew Carey Show again. Seems that one just sort of vanished a few years after it ended it's original run.
irehtman 08-21-2013, 03:59 PM They need to put "Hang Time" series back in syndication because of many probabilities.
Tubehead 08-21-2013, 05:40 PM Mr. Belvedere IS OUT ON DVD I JUST PICK IT UP AT OIILLIES NEW STORE IT OWNED BY BIG LOTS THEY HAD IT ON SALE ON FIRST AND SECOND SEAON WAS 10 BUCKS AND SEAON THREE SEVEN BUCKS NIGHT COURT IS ALSO OUT ON DV D TOO MAMMAS FAMILY COMING OUT SEPTMBER 10 ON DVD THE COMPLETE SEIERS AND THE FIRST AND SECOND SEASON ALSO THE BEST OF 1ST SEAON AND THE BEST OF SECOND SEAON YOU CAN ALSO BUY THE FIRST AND SECOND SEAONS OF PERCFTER STRANGERS ON DVD

biffbronson 08-21-2013, 07:46 PM Cannon
Cannon is returning to MeTV this fall. It had been on there previously, most recently in the late-morning / midday timeframe.
ROWAN & MARTINS LAUGH-IN
YEARS ago Nick at Nite used to show edited, half hour episodes but as far as I know no one has shown it since then. It's not even on DVD:(
I think a huge part of the problem w/ a show like Laugh-In is its heavily dated nature (it's too much of a product of the 1960s to really translate well today).
visaman666 08-22-2013, 04:04 AM Our Miss Brooks was on KVOS pre-METV.

Silver Spoons (I haven't seen this one in decades)
Punky Brewster (I don't think it's been syndicated since the 1990's)
China Beach
The Dukes of Hazzard
Who's The Boss
I think the problem with The Dukes of Hazzard is the whole issue with the Confederate flag (https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2015/07/01/confederate-flag-gets-dukes-of-hazzard-yanked-from-tv-land/29571785/) on the hood of the General Lee. China Beach only produced 62 episodes over four seasons, well below the threshold needed to be successfully syndicated.
Ripley's Believe It Or Not
tlc38tlc38 01-11-2019, 09:11 AM I’m not sure why cartoons don’t do well in syndication.
I’d love to see these on in reruns:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (original)
Garfield and Friends
Gummi Bears
DuckTales (original)
The New Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh is another show that hasn't been seen in years.
icecream 01-11-2019, 09:25 AM Silver Spoons (I haven't seen this one in decades) Antenna TV airs Silver Spoons Saturdays and Sundays in the 4PM hour. They gave it a Father's Day marathon in 2018.

treky 01-13-2019, 04:11 AM the late 80s revival of "THE TWILIGHT ZONE" that aired on CBS for 1 or 2 seasons then moved into first-run syndication.
And this is DEFINETALY not classic by any means; but that HORRIBLE revival of "THE MUNSTERS" that aired on Fox in the late 80s.
treky 01-14-2019, 03:41 AM I'm surprised no one has mentioned "DALLAS". (the original and the 2012 revival) also it's spin-off "KNOTS LANDING".
treky 01-14-2019, 03:46 AM "ROLL-OUT" (short-lived military sitcom from 1974 from the creators of "MASH") But then most short-lived series don't have enough episodes for syndication.

Simon and Simon was actually on COZI TV a year or two ago.
TSMIV 01-15-2019, 07:06 PM I don't get COZI, so I didn't know S&S was on it.
I'd also like to see What About Joan? starring Kyle Chandler and Joan Cusack, but there were only 21 episodes (10 never aired) so it's unlikely to ever be re-run.
Buffyboy323 01-16-2019, 01:46 AM Charles In Charge

As Catsrule mentioned, Silver Spoons airs on Antenna TV weekends at 4:00pm and 4:30pm. It aired during the week throughout 2018 and was also on LOGO in 2017.
Diff’rent Strokes airs weekday mornings at 6:30am on MeTV.
icecream 01-16-2019, 02:58 PM I don't get COZI, so I didn't know S&S was on it.
I'd also like to see What About Joan? starring Kyle Chandler and Joan Cusack, but there were only 21 episodes (10 never aired) so it's unlikely to ever be re-run.You aren't missing much. Kyle Chandler is the star of my all time favorite show Early Edition and I have heard good things about Homefront, but What About Joan was pretty lousy.
icecream 01-16-2019, 03:06 PM Diff’rent Strokes airs weekday mornings at 6:30am on MeTV.What a waste being buried there. I hope Antenna TV can get the rights back. Diff'rent Strokes would get good timeslots on Antenna, when they last had the show it aired in primetime.
Svenfan1234 01-16-2019, 05:18 PM Shows that haven't been in syndication in years?
St. Elsewhere would be my #1 show. I love this show, Season 1 is on DVD and the complete series on Hulu, but never in syndication it seems.
Room 222 has yet to appear on any digital subchannel like Antenna TV
Please Don't Eat the Daisies isn't anywhere at the moment
Chico and the Man also hasn't been on any digital subchannel yet
It's a Living has appeared infrequently on LOGO, but Antenna TV should pick it up
Perfect Strangers hasn't been on any channel in years
The Courtship of Eddie's Father hasn't been shown in syndication in a long time
Eight is Enough never appears on any digital subchannel
mcphert1 01-16-2019, 05:56 PM I'd like to see some vintage series that were relatively too short for syndication such as Hong Kong, The Long Hot Summer etc
Too2muchtv 01-16-2019, 06:47 PM I was thinking of some short-lived early 80's sitcoms I used to really like and would love to see again:
Oh Madeline, with the amazing and talented Madeline Kahn.
Jennifer Slept Here, with the beautiful Ann Jillian, I loved her.
Madame's Place, with Wayland Flower's and "Madame", they were all over television in the 70's and early 80's and then just disappeared.
Down to Earth, it debuted on WTBS as an afternoon after school sitcom, I believe there were episodes on youtube a while back, I haven't checked lately.
Baretta
Trapper John MD, this was a really popular show back in the day, but I haven't seen it on TV in years!
Vega$
Matt Houston, mentioned above, Decades had binge weekends of both within the past year or so, but I'd like to see them back more regularly.
Starsky and Hutch
Land of the Lost, these were on MeTV a few years ago, but I'm ready for them to come back.
Shazam
Secrets of Isis
Battle of the Network Stars - I loved this show so much! ESPN classic was showing reruns years ago, edited of course, but I don't think they've aired since in a long time.
I'd looove to see the original full uncut episodes!
treky 01-16-2019, 07:17 PM I'd LOOOVE to see Jackie Gleason variety shows from the 60s again-"THE AMERICAN SCENE MAGAZINE" & "THE JACKIE GLEASON SHOW"; haven't seen those in YEARS!! (that's where I first discovered "THE HONEYMOONERS" when he remade all the 1950s sketches as musicals)
stevea 01-16-2019, 08:19 PM I agree about the 60s Jackie Gleason Show. I'd watch all those again. Post 85 also has a lot of good ideas. Haven't seen Trapper John in years e.g.
There are probably a lot of shows a lot of us would like to see again. But not enough to buy them on DVD (assuming they're avail.)
FaceReality 01-16-2019, 08:30 PM COZI TV also showed Starsky & Hutch about 2 or 3 years ago.
TSMIV 01-16-2019, 08:31 PM You aren't missing much. Kyle Chandler is the star of my all time favorite show Early Edition and I have heard good things about Homefront, but What About Joan was pretty lousy.
I watched it when it first aired and remember liking it. It was nice to see Kyle in a comedy role for a change. I loved Early Edition, but his grumpiness could get old.
I firmly believe Jeff Metcalfe on Homefront is the best TV role Kyle Chandler ever played.
Too2muchtv 01-17-2019, 01:24 AM COZI TV also showed Starsky & Hutch about 2 or 3 years ago.
You're right, I believe it was Cozi I was actually thinking of. It's been a while though, I wonder if they still have the rights to it or if anyone else plans to air it soon?
Too2muchtv 01-17-2019, 01:41 AM What a waste being buried there. I hope Antenna TV can get the rights back. Diff'rent Strokes would get good timeslots on Antenna, when they last had the show it aired in primetime.
Not a bad time slot for kids in the morning getting ready for school, although for me that was many years ago. In the early 80's I religiously watched WTBS and/or WGN between 6 and 8 AM, WTBS had "Funday Funnies" with cartoons and shorts of The Three Stooges and The Little Rascals, then there was usually some combination of Bewitched (color episodes only, they never aired the B&W seasons during that time), I Dream of Jeannie, the Beverly Hillbillies, and I Love Lucy. And WGN had the Bozo show which I loved watching for the "Grand Prize Game."

yea, that was back when WTBS (which is now TBS) used to start all their shows and movies at 5 minutes past the hour or 5 minutes past the half hour. I heard they did that to guarantee people would watch them.(I know, I know; it doesn't make sense to me either)
FaceReality 01-17-2019, 01:05 PM You're right, I believe it was Cozi I was actually thinking of. It's been a while though, I wonder if they still have the rights to it or if anyone else plans to air it soon?
That's a very good question. I have wondered the same thing myself.

Diff’rent Strokes came to Antenna TV in January 2013 and aired Monday and Wednesday nights from 9-11pm and Sunday’s 10-11pm. I don’t remember how long that lasted. The Norman Lear sitcoms dominated the schedule soon after.
I’d love Diff’rent Strokes back on Antenna TV too, as well as The Facts Of Life. They’ve been buried from 6-7am on MeTV since their debut.
Others I haven’t seen in syndication in years:
8 Simple Rules
California Dreams
Charles In Charge
Harry and The Hendersons
Punky Brewster

Last time I remember seeing it was on SoapNet about 15 years ago. I'm kinda surprised the reruns didn't start airing when the TNT revival premiered.
Beavis and Butthead
Ren & Stimpy
Old episodes of The Price is Right both the Cullen and Barker verisons
Tic Tac Dough
The Jokers Wild not the Snoop Dog verison but the Jack Berry verison
Sports Challenge
Greenbeans 01-20-2019, 11:10 PM I watched it when it first aired and remember liking it. It was nice to see Kyle in a comedy role for a change. I loved Early Edition, but his grumpiness could get old.
I firmly believe Jeff Metcalfe on Homefront is the best TV role Kyle Chandler ever played.
He has a lot of range. He was really funny in "Game Night" and managed to make the jump from tv to movies.

It was aired on Soapnet as recently as the early-to-mid 2000's and was airing on TNT or TBS shortly before that as well.
My definitive (?????) list of sitcoms that produced at least 65 episodes, and ended after 1959, that do not seem to have been rerun anywhere in the US in the last ten years:
The Gale Storm Show 1956-60
The Ann Sothern Show 1958-61
Hennessey 1959-62
Pete And Gladys 1960-62
Mack And Myer For Hire 1963-64 Syndicated only, each episode about 12 minutes long
The Farmer's Daughter 1963-66
The New Dick Van Dyke Show 1971-74
Chico And The Man 1974-78
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman 1976-77 Syndicated only, 5 days a week
Madame's Place 1982-83 Syndicated only, 5 days a week
9 to 5 1982-88
Punky Brewster 1984-88
Check It Out 1985-88 Syndicated only, produced in Canada
It's Garry Shandling's Show 1986-90 Began on Showtime.
Perfect Strangers 1986-93
The Days & Nights Of Molly Dodd 1987-91
Out Of This World 1987-91 Syndicated only
Major Dad 1989-93
Harry & The Hendersons 1991-93 Syndicated only
Nurses 1991-94
(Inside) Herman's Head 1991-94 Apparently never syndicated.
Love & War 1992-95
The John Larroquette Show 1993-96
Dave's World 1993-97
Unhappily Ever After 1995-99
Honey I Shrunk The Kids 1997-2000 Syndicated only
For Your Love 1998-2002
Girlfriends 2000-08
Some notes:
These seemingly are some of the reasons shows don't get rerun:
The show's star also starred in another sitcom that overshadows this one
One of the main actors died young, of a suicide or apparent suicide
The show ran on a fourth-place (or worse) network,
The show ran partially in first-run syndication,
The show ran partially on first-run cable/satellite tv
Paul Junger Witt had the dubious distinction to have worked on four of the 28 shows:
The Farmer's Daughter
Nurses
(Inside) Herman's Head
The John Larroquette Show
(and he worked on the seldom-seen- until recently- It's A Living, as well)
Stephanie Hodge was one of the stars of two of the 28 shows: Nurses and Unhappily Ever After.
Reviews at IMDB give two different reasons why Hennessey is never rerun: One says Abby Dalton said the shows were accidentally destroyed in a fire, the other says the show's creator would never allow it to be rerun. Nevertheless, it was rerun as late as April 1970 at 7 PM weeknights on WCCB-TV in Charlotte, N.C.
If anyone has seen any of the shows on a broadcast/satellite/cable US TV channel since 2008, be free to chime in.

If anyone has seen any of the shows on a broadcast/satellite/cable US TV channel since 2008, be free to chime in.You put a lot of research into this. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids aired on the now defunct Hub when it launched, weeknights at 7PM. It didn't last long on the Hub though. Check it Out, while it hasn't aired anywhere regularly, had a one night 4 episode marathon on WGN the year they had a classics focus. I don't remember the exact year, but it was some time after I got cable in 2006. And Perfect Strangers had a very brief run on ION weeknights at 8:30PM, but got pulled after just two weeks. This was when Mama's Family was their signature show, before ION became a crime drama network.
You can remove "Girlfriends" from the list- I saw part of an episode on some cable/satellite channel in the last day or so.

Gilligan's Island
Green Acres

ALF
My Three Sons

Those are the more popular ones that stand out for me. You can also rule out most of the black and white shows from the 50s and 60s except for "I Love Lucy" that nobody here seems to want to put on. At least I got to see the original "One Day At A Time" again instead of that awful remake that's on now.

I don't get either channel! And that really bothers me.
AFTER MASH
I agree with the people who said that AfterMash would not have been syndicated but someone must have been watching it somewhere because I found the entire series on the Internet Archive and you can now watch it here instead of waiting for it on TV:

MIKEPR 12-02-2019, 09:36 PM I'm actually not surprised that Murphy Brown among those shows you listed isn't being syndicated a whole lot these days. Even though it was one of the most acclaimed and longest running sitcoms during the late '80s and on through the '90s, it has also aged extremely badly. It's a perfect example of why TV shows shouldn't be heavily typical/political, stuff like that is hard to translate as well long after it's time frame.
Why would you think that?
Those who watched it back then and enjoyed it are probably not gonna have issues with it.
Old shows are meant to be appreciated for the time they were produced and not whether they have relevance today.

No one should give a flying fig about if an older show is relevant today, and stop trying to remake shows with a politically correct angle. And for topical references, US residents should at least remember who the presidents before their time are from their history classes.

No one knows or should have to know who Tip O'Neill, Bob Dole and Newt Gingrich were or what "1000 points of light" were all about, yet they have to in order to appreciate Murphy Brown. That's the problem with the show. Most of the references will fly completely over the heads of young viewers, because they reference a political landscape that no longer exist and hasn't in 30 years.
