Anybody from the DC area? I'm going to be up there next month for about a week and I was just wondering if anybody was from that area.

Yes I am. My conference doesn't start until Wednessday, it lasts until Sunday, but I am going up the Saturday before. I figure with 3 whole days and 2 partial days, I should be able to see most everything I want to :)

Any suggestions as to what all is a MUST see?

LOL, I'll be sure to see them all :)

The hotel I'm staying at is right in downtown. It's just a couple of blocks from the White House. I'm pretty excited. This will be fun. I'll get to see a bunch of my friends that I haven't seen in awhile.

I'll let y'all know how it goes when I get back :)

Let's see...I've been down to DC several times...
I remember really liking the FDR memorial- it was different than the rest. I'd recommend walking from the Lincoln Memorial (which is close to the Vietnam and women's memorials, I believe) along the tidal basin to the Jefferson memorial. It's a long walk, but you see a whole slew of memorials. Umm...if you go to the Holocuast Museum (don't remember its exact name..) try to see Daniel's story ~ they did a good job with that, IMHO. Try to check out some of the Smithsonian Museums-- Air and Space is pretty popular. Try to see an IMAX- they're awesome! One of them, American History maybe, had a Pop-culture exhibit that I loved...umm....if you want to get out of the city, try Mt Vernon-- it's not too far out of the city...if you go there, try to get down by the waterfront, there are some cool things down there ~ people in full costume churning butter, etc. If you have time, try to see Arlington Cemetary. It's very sad, but also very touching. The headstones seem to go on forever.....:( The changing of the guards is something to see though.
I'm trying to think of what I did while I was down there on a class trip. We did about a week's worth of sightseeing in 3 days! AHH!! We saw a shooting demonstration at the J Edgar Hoover FBI building, but I don't know if you can get into that unless you're in a tour groups... There was a neat sculpture garden to walk through...not exactly sure where it was...across from the national Archives, I believe....

OK, well I'll try to think of some other places if you want... but I'll leave you with that for now

Sure, I can always use more ideas :)

I'm planning on going to several of those places that you mentioned. I don't know what all the convention had planned, but since I'm going early, I figure to see some things on my own. :)

 You must see...................

1) Where Lincoln got shot......... The Ford theatre - It's a must! It has everything to do with that fateful day. You see where he sat at with his wife. They have a museum in the basement where they have the pillow where they laid his head down. (all bloody). The clothes he wore etc. Great stuff. I tell everyone to go there. After that, You must go across the street to see the house that they took him to where he died.

2) Smithsonian Museum - I run to see the first ladies innaugural gowns, Archie bunkers chair (From All in the family) Fonzie's jacket etc. Great stuff too...............

3) Arlingtion National Cemetary - I haven't been there since Jackie died but, one day I'll go visit again.

***Note I haven't been to the Halocaust Museum yet because when I last went they gave out tickets and the people ran out of them......... One day I'll go see this too!*** Have fun!
Tell us when you come back how you enjoyed it!
