Nell said something funny to the chief in this episode: "If I were you, I'd watch out for kitty litter in my oatmeal."
Then when Nell is telling all the wedding guests that the ceremony will be delayed, she says: "The groom lost his teeth in the toilet bowl. He's diving for them now."
And when Ed had himself locked in the room, his pop said something funny to him: "Open up this door, you horse faced blimp."
This was a funny episode with a lot of great jokes!

I remember that episode from the second season. I thought it was pretty cool. I remember how, after that, Ed was never seen or even mentioned again! It was as if Carl never had a brother!

OHHHHH!!!! I had no idea that that was Uncle Ed's last episode. I really like him. He's fun and cheerful. I hope Grandpa stays around. I like him too.

Grandpa sticks around until the end of the series. In fact, he is in the last episode!
The Chief passes away before the premiere of season 5. In early season 6, Nell decides to moved to NYC, and Grandpa sells the Kanisky house and moves to NYC to be with Nell.

It's so sad, because "Mama's Date" is John Hoyt's final performance as an actor. He retired after GAB was cancelled in May of 1987. Had it been renewed I bet he would have stayed another season or whenever they needed him, unless he passed during filming.
John Hoyt died in 1991, 4 years after GAB ended.
Grandpa was always such a fun character. There's a really touching scene in the Christmas episode where he says he's going off to a ski resort because he only has so many Christmas left in life as he's approaching death any time soon. It was trully John's finest scene from the final season. He didn't have many scenes in the final season, and no episodes were all about him, but he does give a small touching speech about how his time is almost up on earth and he has so few Christmas' left. Makes you think he was the one who bought Marty the toy train.

In season 3, there will be a few episodes dedicated to Grandpa:
Grandpa's Rebellion, where Grandpa returns from a visit to Poland after his wife Midlred passed away, Rodeo, where Grandpa gets pneumonia and almost dies, and he's also seen at The Center, a spinoff that was un-successful.
In season 4, there were 2 episodes....
Grandpa's Will, where he realizes he won't leave his family any money when he dies, and Grandpa's Secret Life, where he meets a woman he slept with on the boat to America from Poland in the early 1900s after he father tracks him down after many years of searching for him to marry her.
In season 5, Grandpa has ONE episode, A Lesson For Nell, where he dates an ex- girlfriend of Simpson's on Valentine's Day who is MUCH younger and Nell gets upset.
In the whole season, Grandpa talks about the Senior Center or doing things with his senior friends as he walks into/out of the house. That's how the majority of his scenes are. He is seen a lot more in the first few episodes of the season though.
Season 3 and 4 Grandpa is pretty much always there. In season 5, his character is lessened and he has nobody to fight with as the Chief is gone. In season 6, he is reduced even more to just a scene or 2 per episode he's in.

I saw another funny episode with grandpa trying to get a loan in Grandpa Robs A Bank. I hated the way that snooty loan guy talked to grandpa. It was funny when he gave them the waffle iron and Nell told him to "sit on it."
