Yep, I saw that. I was just about to post about it. A complete series DVD set is being released for Family Ties on November 5th. The link above includes a picture of this set, which includes a cool photo album with rare pictures of the cast and photos from each season. I like that! Very nice.
It also will have an extra bonus disc, but it is not known what that disc will contain. I am hoping it might have things like "The Art of Being Nick" pilot (at least the aired version- I'd love to have the earlier versions as well, if anything is available of those.), the 1988 PBS special "Inside Family Ties", the Family Ties crossover appearance on the "Trading Places" episode of "Day By Day", the "Civil Wars" episode of "Parker Lewis Can't Lose" which featured an appearance by Andy Keaton, "This Little Piggy Went to Hollywood" episode of "Muppet Babies", which featured an appearance from Michael J. Fox in character as Alex P. Keaton [to clarify, I think it was archive footage from "Family Ties"- not actual new material], the 1988 TV special "Mickey's 60th. Birthday", which featured appearances from the Keaton kids, a PDF version of the issue of "Muppet Magazine" that featured the Keaton kids on the cover, and maybe even a PDF version of "Family Ties: Alex Gets The Business" by Joe Claro- an original novel based on the TV show.
And anything else I may have forgotten- commentaries, interviews, etc.

Of course, what I don't want to have to do is to purchase the entire complete series DVD set for the bonus disc (whatever extras it may contain), as I have already been faithfully buying all the individual season DVD sets. Hopefully Paramount will eventually release the bonus material separately as they have done with other series where this kind of situation came up (one main example for me would be "MacGyver", as that's one of my all time favorite shows, as my user name and avatar attests.):)

In Family Ties, Steven Keaton (Michael Gross) and Elyse Keaton (Meredith Baxter Birney) are products of the 1960's and have become open-minded parents. To their surprise, their children have become conservative and capitalistic growing up in the 1980's. This highly successful comedy series follows this unique American family as their views on politics and life clash to give us humorous family moments.

From 2007 through earlier this year, Paramount Home Entertainment released separate sets for each of the 7 seasons for Family Ties, the show which made actor Michael J. Fox a household name. Now the studio is compiling these together into one collectible gift set, Family Ties - The Complete Series, set to be in stores on November 5th. Fans who have already bought those previous release might be peeved, though, because the studio says to retailers that they should expect this set to include an "exclusive bonus disc not available on the season sets" (details not available yet), plus the "photo album packaging [that] showcases rare photos of the cast and memorable moments from each season." Here's an early look at that packaging (may not be finalized yet, and could be subject to change):

I agree the set looks great but I don't want to have to repurchase the whole series (I have been buying individual seasons as they came out) just to get the bonus disk!! I hope they release it separately for people like me!

I know how you feel. I bought all the Brady Bunch Sets and never got the bonus disc. However, CBS released the I Love Lucy Bonus DVD (http://www.amazon.com/Love-Lucy-Movie-Other-Rarities/dp/B00363WGIC) separately so you might be in luck. The only downside is that they took 3 years to do it. :(

Hopefully the bonus disc will come to dvd separately at some point. I'll buy that. This is my all-time favorite show, but i can't see buying the entire series when I'll have that as of August 13th (individual seasons 1-7). It's just too expensive to buy the entire series for the bonus disc.

Does anybody know if they are going to put the episodes in the sequence that they were originally supposed to be aired or are they going to keep them the way that they were aired when the show was still on?

It's still weird seeing episodes such as "Matchmaker", "It's My Party" and "The Anniversary Waltz" shown out of sequence, the weirdest either being "Anniversary Waltz" or "Matchmaker".

I never picked up any season sets because I heard edits were made concerning replaced intro music, scenes cut and edited for time. Will this full release be the same?

Meredith Baxter wrote on her FB page that she received a 20-minute gag reel spanning all 7 seasons from the DVD company. I would guess that would be on the bonus disc.

Besides the extras, my main concern is whether they will rearrange the episodes so they are sequeced in the order that they were originally intented to be aired, for continuity's sake.

We can only hope!! It would also be nice to have cast commentaries - Gary David Goldberg is no longer with us, so it's up to them to carry the torch, as it were.

The cast commentaries would be nice, there are a lot of questions that I have regarding the show and what was going on behind the scenes.

The original intro music is on the season sets. There are a couple of episodes with replaced music, but CBS Paramount did a good job at keeping most of the music which says a lot since they've butchered other tv shows like the Odd Couple and 90210.

I seriously doubt there will be any extras(like commentaries) that would make me want to buy the complete series. Still, it's great for people who never purchased the season sets and probably much cheaper than buying them individually like I did.

Okay, "Family Ties" was originally on NBC. The
"Odd Couple" on ABC and "90210" on FOX so how did CBS get the rights to show all three of these shows on video or syndication? BTW, "Family Ties" is still in good shape despite whatever hatchet job Skywalker says they did. It's just the out of sequence epsisodes which bother me.

All of those shows were produced by paramount. It doesn't matter what network they aired on, Paramount owns the shows. I was talking about the music cuts and missing scenes from The Odd Couple and 90210 Season sets, not Family Ties. Almost all the original music from 90210 has been replaced on DVD and the Seasons 3-5 of the Odd Couple had many cuts and edits.

As far as the music goes, they kept the most important song ("In This Moment"). I think the fans would have gone absolutely ballistic if they had replaced Alex and Ellen's song. At least the company had enough sense to pony up the cash to use that song.

In one of the clip shows in Season 7 one of the music clips that was previously cut is in that episode. It's from when Elyse and Steven are trying to decide what music to go with for Jennifer's 10th birthday (season 1 episode: I know Jennifer's Boyfriend). They sing Eddie My Love which was cut from Season 1 dvd.

Overall, I think they did pretty well. I'm thankful all the seasons are available on dvd. :) I have my seven season sets and that's what matters. :)

I understand about the few episodes that aired out of sequence, but I think they chose to compile the episodes on the dvd season sets in the same way NBC (not CBS) orginally aired the episodes. Yes, it's silly that Season 2 episode Anniversary Waltz is on the Season 6 dvd, but at least it's somewhere. Would it be nice if it was on Season 2? Of course. The same goes for Matchmaker....

Family Ties - Finalized Packaging, Bonus Disc Contents for 'The Complete Series'
29-DVD set with every season of the show plus new bonus disc Posted by David Lambert
9/25/2013

Back in early August, CBS/Paramount announced the November 5th DVD release for Family Ties - The Complete Series. In that report we had preliminary package art for this title, which we said was an early image and subject to change. We also had word that an exclusive bonus disc would be included, but we didn't have word yet about its contents. Now we've gotten a new, finalized image from the studio (see below), plus we've got this list of new bonus materials:

CBC's Pacific Report: Michael J. Fox Profile (1984)
Excerpt from Inside the Actors Studio with Michael J Fox (2005)
Cast and Series Creator Reunion Appearance (2008)
Pilot for The Art Of Being Nick (Family Ties spin-off starring Scott Valentine as "Nick")
Gary David Goldberg-produced show Day By Day episode "Trading Places"

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw this and I'm so excited for it! Great to see both "The Art of Being Nick" pilot and the "Trading Places" episode of "Day By Day" included! And the 2008 cast reunion- very nice!
I just really hope CBS/Paramount releases this bonus disc separately from the complete series DVD set because I don't want to rebuy all 7 seasons.

I hope they release this bonus disc separate. I own 1-5. I did not know season 6 was out. There was long delay for it.

Do not expect any changes to the previous released seasons. The reason they do these complete season sets is they are cheap to make. All the work of converting the shows for DVDs has been done. So they just manufacture the same discs again.

I am very impressed by whats on the extra DVD. Considering I do not have 6 or 7 I would kind of consider getting the set..... but really can not afford it.

I wish they would release the bonus disc separately. From time to time I go to Amazon out of curiosity about the price of the complete series. They still have not lowered the price. It's still $154.86. That's a lot, imo.

Can someone who has the seventh season take a picture of the back of the case and post it here? I still haven't seen what it looks like.

Yeah- $154.86 for the complete series DVD? There's no way I can afford that- and it's pointless when I already own the separate seasons on DVD. I wish when companies do this (and mind you, I don't mind if they do- it's pretty cool actually)- but I wish they would release a separate DVD of just the bonus material at the same time. I suppose they may be worried that they won't get sales that way... but since fans buying the individual season release helped make the sales to make it possible to release the complete series on DVD- you'd think the studios could keep their loyal fans of their shows in mind and release a separate bonus disc sooner....
but oh well- I hope it will come out at some point. Paramount did a similar deal a while back when "MacGyver" was released to DVD in a complete series set. It included the two 1994 MacGyver TV-movies and for a long while, that was the only way for fans to get the TV-movies. (Which was a bummer for long time fans like me who had already bought all the individual seasons on DVD along the way.) But finally they released a separate DVD for the TV-movies and I quickly grabbed that up to complete my collection. I think it took about a year though...maybe by this fall, we'll hear something more on Family Ties for this bonus disc- I hope so anyway.

Has there been any news on whether the bonus disc will be released separately?
