That sounds like a pretty good comeback to me!

It was especially funny since the chief said it with a straight face and a serious tone of voice.

I can see your point.
Wawwie 08-07-2013, 01:48 AM I was a bit surprised that the grandparents let Julie smoke in their house.

I can understand why you would say that. Maybe they thought that she needed time to work her way through her addiction.
irehtman 08-08-2013, 07:23 AM Both Dolph Sweet and Vic Tayback are horrible actors and they are both dead right now. I prefer Dick Butkus better then these two. Right now, dick retired from acting successfully after his last series ended!

Just your opinion, but I think their success spoke for itself. I loved Dolph Sweet as the Chief because he had the personality written for the character so I feel no one else could have played his part.
irehtman 08-08-2013, 02:06 PM Dolph was more horrible than Dick Butkus! I'm glad Dolph died in the middle of that series with cancer and he would have been better off being put in the last part of the cast line-up instead.
I like Dick Butkus better than Dolph because he knows how to be flexible from being grumpy to funny and funny to grumpy. Dolph is always grumpy! Dick had a better advantage when he was put in the last part of the cast line-up in his own series. Now, Dick is retired from acting as a successful actor, he might live longer and die at a real old age than both Dolph and Vic Tayback!

You are such a sweetheart.

I imagine that this reply is a form of sarcasm. I was very surprised that anyone would post a message that was than insensitive!

Yes, it was a sarcastic remark aimed at that insensitive and tactless poster.

I don't know why that weirdo insists on talking about Vic Tayback and Dick Butkus. What do they have to do with Gimme A Break?

I have no idea!

That poster is the same sicko who says Amanda Bynes DESERVES to be suffering from schizophrenia because he doesn't like her acting. This guy is a real treat.

I can see what you and the poster that came before you are saying. This posters seems like a very insensitive person!
Wawwie 08-31-2013, 06:11 AM A few years later, when Julie goes to a ski lodge with Jonathan, he has on a smoking jacket, and Julie tells him how she's against smoking. I guess she learned from her previous experience with smoking.

I think that it is great if she can learn from her past mistakes. I was very unsettled seeing a girl that I had a crush on doing something like smoking! I knew then as I know now that it was only a TV show, but that did not help me to feel any less put off!

And Julie never explained why she started smoking.

I agree. She never did give any explanation. However I think that it was implied that it has something to do with depression or loneliness.

Maybe she was desperate and she thought it would make her seem "cool."

That sounds plausible. I remember when Joanie had that same problem on an episode of "Happy Days". It took the Fonz to straighten her out. To bad Julie did not have a friend like the Fonz to help her!

I think that slap from her father helped her quite well, LOL.

I much as I liked Julie, I think that that smack across the face was something that she certainly deserved!

That's what she gets for lying to the chief!

The chief didn't put up with any bull**** from his kids. He and James Evans from "Good Times" would have gotten along well. They had the same child-raising ideas. They meant business. There was a price to pay for getting out of line, LOL.

True, but James Evans seemed way more angry than the chief! But it's also true that neither one of them put up with any crap!
